1. Welcome TaMarah and ShonaRayJoe!! Can't wait to see your new grey mugging for the camera! Ha ha...Karma to you for re-homing!
2. Aw man! I really can't wait to get home from work so I can watch that video link. Ha ha! We're not permitted access to video/streaming media here
3. Hey cool!!! I learned something today! Thanks Toni! Now we just need to get a GREY in the White House! Ha ha ha... Karma to you from me as well!
4. Have you ever considered giving them a warm mash of veggies or fruit instead? Seems to me like baby formula is more of a sustaining foodsource for babies and not so much a "treat" for adults (calorie content, etc.). At least once or twice per week I heat up a sweet potato and puree' it in my food processor with some of his favorite veggies--broccoli, snap peas, and some carrots. Hopefully someone here can comment more to the effect of how handfeeding ADULT greys could or couldn not impact the bond between human and bird. Sounds like your greys are independent adults, and would naturally not be as "clingy" as they were as babies. Not that they don't love you, but they're just grown ups. Chimay and I have special time set aside every day to play together...for at least 1/2 an hour when I get home we play on either his basket, or I put a sheet on the coffee table and we spend time together with no distractons (TV, radio, phone, etc). If it's bonding you want, I'm not sure that it can be accomplished SOLEY by treats.
5. LMAO!!! That would be so hilarious... Poopie running down the side of the resolute desk, "Squawk! Hail to the Chief!" Ha ha ha ha!!!
6. I was just browsing the news online and came across the story on President Obama's new puppy and got to thinking...there's been cats and dogs as White House pets, but when are parrots going to get a chance at some presidential love? Ha ha! Just a thought I wanted to share

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/04/17 18:50
7. Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation....On the bright side he's eating and chattering so that's a good sign! I'll keep you and Eli in my thoughts...Please keep us posted on his condition
8. Ha ha ha! That's a good idea...Chimay really likes having time on our coffee table, running around flat-footed for a little while so maybe he'll just step onto the scale without the need for a perch. Why didn't I think of that to begin with? Lol!
9. Parliament man huh? Ha ha....Thanks! I'll probably have to fabricate some sort of base as well. My kitchen scale has no spot that I know of to screw on the dowel like you have. Awesome!
10. Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the homemade toys section... I already have a digital kitchen scale, and would really like to start a weekly log of Chimay's weight. He weighed in at his first vet visit at 470g, and 488g at his follow up yesterday. Does anyone here know if there is a site out there where I can purchase a perch that I can simply set on top of the digital kitchen scale I already have? I've looked around but all I seem to find are whole scales with perches built in. Or an easy suggestion on fabricating my own (mind you I have no tools beyond a drill and some basic toolbox tools)?

Post edited by: chimaysmommy, at: 2009/04/16 21:00
11. Wow!!! I wish I could take advantage of that deal myself as well! Ha ha ha...
12. Welcome! I would have to agree he could definately use a bigger cage. More specifically a wider one. Here's the link to the cage I bought for our Chimay...it was a bit of a pain to put together (I'd highly recommend a second person to assist) but Chimay absolutely loves it. He's got a really good amount of room to move around. Plus it was about $150.00 cheaper than comparable cages at larger retail stores. http://www.bird-cage.com/p38/Kasterra-Play-Top-Bird-Cage/product_info.html Thanks so much for sharing with us!
13. His weight at his first vet appointment was 470 and he weighed in at a follow up visit yesterday at 488
14. Oh! I forgot to mention....Chimay's had two successful nights in his sleeping cage! Yay! It's still taking a little bit of coaxing each time though. He is a little to anxious to stay inside the cage on the first attempt, so I take him out and cuddle with him in the bedroom in front of the sleep cage. Once he's all puffy and sleepy again I put him inside and he's eventually starts grinding his beak. I was starting to get worried about his quality/quantity of sleep there for a while. We've got a fairly hefty sound system and large HD TV in the living room where his play cage is, and we'd have to turn it down to a whisper at night. But I think the brightness of the tv was keeping him awake because we'd hear him eating pellets and climbing around his cage into 11pm, waking up at 7am (6 hrs of sleep for baby grey---no good!). So we've had two good nights of about 9-10 hours of sleep! I'm so relieved that he's using the night cage with no problems.
15. Sweet I'll have to check that out...I'm trying to post the pics from my work computer and the imaging software is weird. Can't seem to crop the pics in the right way to size them down.
16. Okay that's it...I quit! Ha ha ha! Uploading it in my photo album instead.
17. Trying again....lol! One of these days I'll do this right on the first try
18. He had a vet appointment yesterday to check on a few things in his bloodwork that were odd in his initial vet visit. Everything is normy-normal! Yay! Yesterday he figured out how to turn our hallway lights on and off. He climbed down his cage bars behind the cage and started beaking the light switch. Ha ha!! New pic of Chimay and his daddy
19. I swear by www.birdsafestore.com too! I love that store but haven't ventured out to any other sites, I might have to try out the other ones you have listed!
