1. There are many reasons why people own these magnificant birds, and I'm very curious as to why so many people own them. It can be any reason. Examples: Talking ability, appearence, love of breed, loneliness, etc. As for my reason, it's for many reasons. Due to a traumatic incident which happened years ago, and further pain and emotional abuse by loved ones I became depressed, and couldn't seem to find a way to be happy until, through good luck, I met my boyfriend and his two greys. They have helped me in ways I couldn't understand, and now I'm about to put a deposit on my own baby grey after much thought, research, and consideration. Why do you own a grey?
2. She sure is beautiful and seems to be getting quite used to her surroundings. I live in Washington too, and I'm curious as to where you found your breeder? I had to go clear up to Everett (I live in Renton) to find a reliable, well-known breeder/specialty store. Karma.
3. Thanks for the congrats. I plan to get a baby. As much as I should rescue a grey, because there are so many that need help, I don't think I'm quite ready for that. As far as finding a breeder goes, this was not the best time of year to look for a grey. But there are a few options in the Seattle Washington area, and the first one that I need to investigate is Apollos Bird Store in Everett, WA. There are 8 month old greys hatched in April, and barely 2 month olds that hatched in early October. I don't plan on actually bringing a grey home until Christmas or afterwards, so I'm not sure which would be the best choice. I can hardly contain my excitement, and I think everyone I talk to can tell. Last night, after hearing the great news, I couldn't at all fall to asleep. I was so excited about actually getting a grey, that I had a dream of bringing one home. Haha, am I the only one who was this excited to get your long awaited baby? Please share.
4. Welcome Bandit's mom! I just recently joined, and it's very welcoming and informative here. Ask all the questions you want, and I'm sure you'll find all the answers. Changing of the eyes from black to grey to a pale yellow is just a sign that your grey is getting more mature and older. (unless you were just stating your displeasure of the changing in the first place, then my bad, haha.)
5. I went and saw my baby for the first time! And I took pictures with my phone, because I went by myself. But anyways. He is sure adorable. Fully feathered and beautiful. He is a total of 1200$ and if I want to reserve him, I need to deposit 600$ otherwise he is might not be there after Christmas My heart was pounding when I saw him all snuggled up with his sister. And he sure is a big one too. I forgot to ask them his weight today, but I could tell. Oh my, my parents actually gave the O.K. and now i'm looking for my baby! I'm very excited, and I have been brainstorming names. (when it comes to naming anything, i have a horrible time) I have two choices for male: 1. Baloo (as in the Jungle Book bear) 2. Zeus And so far no ideas for female names. Your opinion? [ Post edited by: empera, at: 2008/12/02 02:13

Post edited by: empera, at: 2008/12/02 02:13
6. Although I don't own a grey, I have a sun conure, and she seems to be more demanding in all ways compared to my boyfriend's greys. It could work it both ways, you never know. It all depends on the bird. Good luck!
7. ^ That's Merlin, and this is Davey.
8. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. About my boyfriends greys. His father is an animal control officer for the city of Renton, so he brings in abused animals into the house practically daily. His name is Davey Jones (funny, right?) and he came absolutely bare and now he has some beautiful feathers back. He is a rescue. He's a biter, but I still love him to death. They think he is about 5 years young. And then yet to come is the grey they bought about 12 years ago. They named him Merlin, and he sure is a bright one. Gorgeous, and quite the imitator. Since i'm somewhat of a stranger to the birds, i can't exactly come in contact with them, but i'm perfectly fine admiring them. ------- As far as thinking about the present and future, you asked good questions, but I'm prepared. I plan to go to a community college, due to the profession to want to pursue, which is cooking. As I plan on staying home during my college time, so my grey wouldn't have to worry about moving issues, or not getting enough love and attention daily. Absolutely I've checked out the price aspect. Just the other day I visited several pet stores to compare prices/toy costs and I got a good idea. As far as space is concerned, There is a large area in the living room that the grey could occupy. I understand that windows are bad because of drafts and other reasons. Heat vents, etc. There is the perfect spot. she, I'll try to start exercising more. Although I am such a baby about running, haha. Thank you all again.
9. Hello guys! I've been browsing around on this website for about two weeks, and I'm hooked! It's filled with valuable information, and everyone is so nice. I'm from Issaquah, WA. And i'm a junior in high school, and I've recently been diagnosed with depression. They gave me pills, and i've been taking them with no real positive effect (yet) besides the horrible icky side effects. I have no reason to come home, I feel unloved by everyone in the house. But the point is, my boyfriend is an owner of two beautiful greys and I've always loved birds. I have a sun conure at home which is sadly aggressive towards everyone besides my mother and father. African greys amaze me and most the time I'm the one taking care of (feeding, watering, cleaning) my boyfriends greys. (they are spoiled) I feel that I would greatly benefit from being a grey owner, and it's been proving that animals help depression. I'd be home much more often than not, giving my grey the attention he/she needs. I yearn for that connection between an animal. And even though I'm in high school, I'd say that as a 17 year old, I'm more mature than people my age. This is not just a pet to look at and feed. It's a child that needs my attention and love. I'm responsible, and I'd never give up on my grey. Any feedback? (please be nice, )
