1. LOL Maybe you are right! I read about them injuring their chest bone & I hate to think that could be happening. "Practicing" sounds so much nicer than crash landing. I'll have to check for that birdie expression next time!
2. So many questions...but I'm so happy to get answers to them! I'm concerned about my timneh landing so hard. She is 5 months & has her wings trimmed. I try my best to prevent her from falling or taking a hard landing but sometimes she just takes off from the counter top in the kitchen or gets frightened by something & trys to fly. She seems to land rather hard & I feel bad for her when the surface is not soft. This seems to happen every other day or so. I'm not to worried about the carpet landings or should I be? I don't have her caged most of the day & she is usually fine. Should I have her in her cage more to prevent her from trying to fly down? I usually only cage her if I'm going out. Am I spoiling her by to much out of the cage time? I try to have her in the same room as I am much of the time.
3. Thanks, then she'll have a great snuggly day
4. Ok so today I woke up sick... sneezing, runny nose, achy, the whole 9 yards. I'll be in bed today a lot. My question is, can I bring the bird to bed with me for some of the day or is this unhealthy for her? She will not like sitting alone downstairs in her cage all day because I usually have her out & near me. A rainy yucky day I thought might be good for extra cuddles but I don't want to put her at risk.
5. Well I didn't think to give her bones, she insisted on getting to them. I think thats what amazed me, how she knew what she wanted & made the effort to make sure she got some. Must be something they need in that marrow.
6. I don't think I'd like to dwell on that image.... lol

Post edited by: Nikki, at: 2008/12/10 14:55
7. Thank you. After I posted my question I saw that this site will direct you you to similar posts....very cool. I didn't think to search for it before I asked. It stands to reason that the marrow would be good for her, I guess thats why I let her choose the part she wanted. I'm glad to know this is a treat she can enjoy. {Nature-0002009B}

Post edited by: Nikki, at: 2008/12/10 02:24
8. Here's a question I am wondering about. My 5 month old grey seems to LOVE chewing up chicken bones. She is eating some of the meat but most of it seems just for the joy of chewing it to bits, she does a fantastic job of it! Is this ok for her to do? She flew off her perch onto the floor in order to get to the table for some CHICKEN!!!! This is the 2nd time I've let her have it. She prefers the bones to the meat.
9. The poop went back to normal...what that mess was all about I have NOOO idea! I was sure I was off to the vets! She's fine & happy, a sweet little baby!
10. I'll keep an eye out, thanks for the reply.
11. Yes this was first thing in the morning. The next one looked more solid & green, have no idea why first was yellow, watery & bubbly...looked very odd.
12. Help again!!!!!! This morning my 5 month old Grey passed a poop that was yellowy in color, more watery than usual & had small bubbles floating on top like little oil bubbles. I have never seen anything like this. She is eating well & otherwise seems fine, does anyone have any idea what this might mean?

Post edited by: Nikki, at: 2008/12/08 14:14

Traveling

Thank all of you for responding. I am certainly glad to hear everyone is in agreement. I'll plan on taking them both when we go, I'm anxious to show her off anyway! We'll travel during the day. I have noticed my green cheek is upset being out after dark, we'll try to avoid that. Beth
14. I need some advice. My timneh in just 5 months old, we've only had her a month. We frequently travel to Florida which is about an 8-10 hour car trip depending on where we go. Our little green cheek has been our constant travel companion, she loves a car ride to anywhere! We will be traveling over the holidays & don't know whether to bring the grey or make sitting arrangements. I could have my daughter sleep here but she is gone from noon-9PM. I think we can manage 2 birds on the road just fine but will this be upsetting to her? We plan on being gone about 5 days. I could take her to a friends home but of course she would not know them. She has been a doll baby & I hate to upset her in any way. I've taken her on short car rides to see how she reacts & she seems fine. I also have her cage outdoors for 2 hours everyday so she knows about the world outside somewhat. I read somewhere about not changing their environment for the first year...help!
15. Thank you for your assurance. I hope we become one happy family. You are amazing to have so many Greys!
16. Hello to all. I have a new baby in the house. A 4 month old Timneh who has been charming me with her demure ways for the last 2 weeks. She learned step up in one day, she understood potty almost immediately (not that she doesn't have her "accidents") & she has been loving & sweet from the first moment I picked her up. I have a green cheek at home that has been my one & only little baby so we have some jealousy issues going on here. I hope she will be able to adjust to sharing. I am knocking myself out trying to reassure her that Mommy still loves her but she is biting a bit, I know she is angry with me. Nikki, my grey, has made no attempt to bite. So far she seems to eat fairly well. I'm surprised she has been as quiet as she has been. I have barely heard more than a few gurgles from her, she sounds like ET. I see her taking everything in tho! Can't wait to hear her start to share what she is listening to!

Post edited by: Nikki, at: 2008/10/31 13:54
