Thanks, all. Let me try it again. If you don't see a picture, then I goofed. It's a picture of Cosmo acting cute, as usual. Didn't work!<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/12/28 17:59

Yes. I'm thinking it's user error, I am a "newbie".

Good morning, can someone instruct me as to how to apply images within your post? I keep getting a message that says something like Image is too large, and then it gives me an accepted size of around 500 Mega Pixels.<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/12/28 16:37

Question, is anyone having problems with this website? (12/28 at around 10:20 AM)

Hello danmcq, Thanks for the post. Actually this air purifier has what they call a "Hyper-HEPA" filter as the main particle filter, it actually has a ppcf (particles per cubic foot) rating of 99.99% for particles >= 0.3 microns. This covers also, most airborne viruses and bacteria. It has 3 other stages of filtration, gas, smoke and a pre-filter which handles the heavy stuff. At this price, they do a lab test on the actual unit before they send it to you, with a certificate of authentication. They use a measuring instrument called "icleen" PCM Concentration Meter.<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/12/28 16:17

Cosmo used to eat "Zupreem," however, his taste changed, then I switched him to Harrison's food, but it felt like trying to get a three year old to eat his spinach. He lets me know that his palette was unhappy by throwing the food on the floor, so I started the adventure of trying different parrot food. Well, after much deliberation between Cosmo and myself (believe me when I say we tried it all) we found "Jungle Munchies" Conure/African parrot food, I mix in some Quicko Classic Egg Food supplement, and a wee bit of Quicko multivitamin/minerals supplement (just a tad). For a treat, he loves "Fruit to nuts," which has fresh dried vegetables, fruits and different kind of nuts. I don't give Cosmo any peanuts. Any treat that he likes that has peanuts, I take them out. He also loves occasionally spicy Mexican beans (simmered until cooked for 30 minutes, cool and serve), "Brown's Spicy Santa Fe parrot treat" (peanuts removed), pasta with chopped broccoli/marinara and lasagna. Once in a while, I'll give him a candy-like parrot treat call "Delectable Munchies" which are like rice covered malted milk balls, except the malted part is peanut butter. (no, I don't deprive him of the real, tasty treat every now and again... Eat, drink and be merry applies to our friends too.) Of course, I don't feed him the foods we know are harmful or fatal to birds. You may want to conduct a Google search on the Web using the key words "parrot+diets" to find these out or, even better, just ask here, this forum is the Mecca of Grey facts and ideas! Oh, by the way, Cosmo is on my shoulder critiquing my verbiage, he sends his regards!

Dave007, Oh, that's OK, I tend to be a bit extravagant. I have to admit, I was a bit taken back by your post. I guess it's true what they (whoever they are) say, "The written word can be taken many different ways, sometimes, none of them good..." I like your profile image, by the way.<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/12/27 04:47

Yes, it costs a bit, but I think it's worth it. Especially since I have that lung conditon COPD.

Dave007, Please click on the link I provided in one of my posts on this subject to see the kind of filter I bought. The IOAir Healthpro plus was actually used by the government of China, as one of the preventative measures during the SARS epidemic. They placed one in each patients room as an aid to prevent spreading the disease. I think it should be good enough for my apartment. http://www.iqair.com/residential/roomairpurifiers/healthproplus.php

Yes, I have read about filters that ionize and human health issues, however, I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to how it affects birds. I too had fish, I did the saltwater min-reef aquarium and had ionizers, ozone generators (a part of a protein skimmer) and such, so I have a pretty good idea how they work. I now have a fresh water tank. danmcq has a good point, if they can be harmful to humans, they could be harmful to, and especially to, captive birds. This is why I opted for the IQAir HealthPro plus Series 4 stage hyper-HEPA filtration system. See website below. http://www.iqair.com/residential/roomairpurifiers/healthproplus.php Thanks for the free exchange of ideas!<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/12/26 15:29

Hello everyone. The problem seems to be the size of my pictures. (pixel size) I'll try another picture with a lower pixel clarity. I just have to take one. I'll post again with pictures soon. He's a real cutey!

***Here's my conclusion about air cleaners that ionize. I'm not sure what it is about them that effect our loved ones. Whether it's the ozone they produce, or increasing the size of airborne partials, ionization had effected Cosmo adversely it seems. I bought an IQAir Healthpro series air purifier. It doesn't use ionization to clean the air. It cost a bit, but it's worth it. Cosmo has a cleaner, safer environment to live in as well as myself*** Thanks for the input.

I bought Cosmo, my 2 year old Grey, a Manzanita tree for Christmas. I set it up about 2 weeks ago and have been trying to get him comfortable with it. He is stubborn, I'll say that much! I take him out of his cage a couple of hours a day so he very comfortable with his surroundings, however, I understand that this tree is not his regular outside perch, so he is leary. Any suggestions as to helping Cosmo understand that it's not a big "boogie man"?

I've taken some pictures of Cosmo, my 2 yr old male Congo Grey. He loves the camera! Here's one.

I've been wondering on what else I could get for Cosmo. Most of the parrot toys are repetitive. Thanks for the suggestion.

A question about trimming flight feathers
Journeyman replied to Journeyman's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Thanks. Cosmo will remain flighted, just as nature intended. -
Hi, Cosmo hasn't had his flight feathers clipped since I brought him home from his breeder. He's now able to take flight. I'm debating wether to clip his wing or not. I take every precaution to ensure his saftey, his ability to take flight hasn't produced any baleful results...yet. He stays outside of his cage only when I'm home, of course, and I watch him like a hawk (no pun intended). I know it's a matter of choice, however if someone who has some expierience with their Grey, both flighted and clipped, would share some of the pros and cons, I'll have more to go on when I decide. ~Journeyman

Thanks for the reply. I've heard that it's the ozone that ionizers create that's bad. That's the problem I'm having, everyone has heard a different reason it seems. I'll investigate more into this. The reason is, is because I have COPD, and I need a really good air purfier/cleaner. (I spray bath Cosmo every day in the morning, to cut down on his dust) ~Journeyman

I've asked the question about ionizing air cleaners and Greys, and found a book called "The Parrotlet Handbook" By Matthew M. Vriends. Matthew states on page 34 that ionizers are completely safe for parrots. Is anyone familiar with this author? ~Journeyman.
-
What Briansmum posted makes sense, I'm always researching information on parrot's, particularly about Greys. Maybe the adverse reaction some Grey's get could be caused by an allergy to chillies?

Whoops! I clicked "quote" by mistake.:pinch:<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/11/02 16:27

I've given Cosmo just about everything I eat, some stuff he likes, some he doesn't. His favorite "people" food is pasta shells and chopped broccoli with marinara. I only feed him this favorite maybe once a week. His normal diet is Harrison's high potency course parrot food, and the treat he enjoys is Spicy Santa Fe mix. I've read that even though parrots can eat most anything we eat, it should be in moderation. (no avocados or chocolate, of course) When I make his Italian favorite, I put his in a separate bowl (because he's a sloppy eater) and yes, Cosmo has his own "people" food bowl with his name on it and we'll usually dine together. When he's finished and I try to take his bowl away from him, he'll raise his feathers and go into attack mode.:cheer: He's not a biter, so it's kind of funny it's the only time he gets aggressive. luvparrots, I've had Cosmo a year and a half and he's now just over 2 years old. I put the picture of his cage in the "photo album". It's 72" high, 40" wide and 30" deep. I'm new in this forum, so I don't know how to retrieve it. I guess maybe with a key word? If so, try either "Cosmo" or "Journeyman". I have a cute one, he was in his cage, and was giving me one of his looks, so I captured it. I'm not sure if this image file will attach, but I'll try.

Thanks for the greeting. I have a hard time leaving for any length of time, and will only go away for two days. My sister has to come over and watch Cosmo if I do. My friends don't understand, then again, they don't have a Grey. I've had conures, love birds, cockatiels, parrakeets and one time, a crow. I've had birds since I was about 8 years old. Cosmo is the only birdy friend I have right now. I bought him a couple of puzzle toys recently. He figures them out too fast. One was called "Tiki Take out". You've probably have heard of it. It's a tiki hut that has wooden dowels as bars they have to chew through to get the treat. You put the treat and wooden dowels in through a trap door on the bottom that's secured with a key that you need a coin to open. (it's not a part of the puzzle) Cosmo chewed on the wooden dowels for about 5 minutes, looked underneath and noticed the key and opened it with his beak. The dowels and treat fell out, so ended the the puzzle part of the toy. He did play with the dowels for a while. The thing is, I set the toy up in another room so he didn't see how I put the treat in. Pretty wild! I uploaded a picture into the photo album of his cage, I try to get only the best for him. Talk to you later.<br><br>Post edited by: Journeyman, at: 2008/10/28 03:28
