I should also say that Gryphon's (see pics above) is a medium-long. It seems perfect for him. They recommend the large size for greys, which is more expensive.
-
That's the best price I've seen! Thanks! Now we "need" another one.

Nims I had sore fingers for a while myself. Gryphon is my first grey and though I have experience with other parrots, it was a new bird language to learn. I know people here can advise on the shoulder thing. Some birds just aren't good "shoulder birds." Good luck!

Maybe it is cage territorial behavior? I've experienced this with amazons. The cage is their turf and safety zone and they will clear the area of all humans or other invaders the hard way. We usually use a stick perch to take these birds away from the cage in order to work with them on neutral ground, but I know George probably isn't up to that just yet. I don't think you are doing anything wrong at all! It may just take more time. I'd suggest watching his body language to familiarize yourself with his "bite you" posture. Then you can back up a little and continue talking or reading. I only got a couple of days worth of bites from Gryphon before he taught me! I think you are doing great. The rewards will be many.

P.S. I am thinking of getting another to hang vertically so he can climb up and down it like a ladder. He loves to have different toys hung from it...runs all over it to see what I've changed or added!

I use the 3 X 6 and it is probably more than I need, so I'd think that would be fine. Gryphon loves the net!

I can totally vouch for the resuming talking over time. Gryphon didn't talk for the first couple of weeks. He's been with us 3 1/2 weeks now and now says two things. It is like getting a present every time he says a new word! Plus we have a wide assortment of beeps, buzzes, pings, yaps, and whistles. Welcome home George.

Wow! That is so fantastic. Way to go Angel! :woohoo:

It's the Scooter World Foot Toy: Slotted Whiffle Goodies from Parrot Island. I really love their toys!

I work with ravens (and crows) and you are right, they are definitely tricksters. Compared to greys I'd say there's a similarity in intelligence, but corvids are way more assertive and confident in general. I've met confident greys, but never a shy or cautious corvid!

Just in case you "need" one, here's the link. It is filled with foot toys and fun stuff. http://parrotisland.mainsecureserver.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=123&products_id=373

We got a package from our favorite store today and guess who got an election day present! He's still playing with it 45 minutes later :woohoo:

Good question! I'm curious too. I wrap extra beads and foot toys (anything with an interesting shape) in 3-4 unfiltered coffee filters, twist and tie them off. Gryph likes to tear into them and find the shape. He's also obsessed with wiffle balls that have beads or bells in them.

Pumpkin pie?!? Bring it!!!! I know. It took me forever to click the purchase button on that one. Now I think we need another for the living room  Maybe from Santa

I wish I had a camera permanently attached to my body. I miss a thousand shots a day

This looks great Dan. Thanks!

That is awesome. Looks like those kids are really into it!

Gryph and I were just talking to my husband in the kitchen while he was running water in the sink. Gryph climbed right down my arm, ran across the counter, and started playing in the water:woohoo: And here I thought I'd be having to introduce bath time slowly and carefully!!! He also said "bye bye" in my voice today. It is strange to think that three weeks ago I was preparing for a distraught scared little dude. He's such a clown.

Wow Kaedyn! This is great. Are you a science teacher? Thanks so much!

Talon I hung the net within easy climbing reach of his cage where he feels most comfortable. He was on it in a day or two. That is about the only thing I can think that facilitated his using it. I know some birds like it to hang straight like a ladder. Caspar, it is a pretty big net! If we kick the humans out of the room I think we could handle a dozen or so  And there's nobody getting spoiled around here! I don't know what you guys are talking about

I'm stuck between the AvianSunâ„¢ Deluxe Floor Lamp from Zoo Med and the FeatherBrite Woodtone Floor Lamp. AvianSun is a 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent and FeatherBrite has a CRI of 91. I have no idea what this means Does anyone know about these two companies?

I can recommend a book on this subject: Green Clean. I bought it on amazon for 10 bucks. It is great! Also gives recipes for making your own cleaning products (really easy and I save a fortune) and which commercial brands to purchase (murphys oil soap is fine hurrah!). It is focused on human safety and the environment. Also, it isn't preachy. I am highly susceptible to guilt (thanks mom) but this is a practical guide. They even suggest weaning yourself off commercial products as you see fit. I still can't let go of my toilet wand!
