1. hey everyone! yesterday i got my grey! welcome Vincent! there he is on my sofa in my profile pic! thanks to everyone who has offered me help and support during my short time on this site! on my way home i brought loads of fruit and veg. is it ok to give him them straight from the fridge? he has a seed and pellet mix. i mix a small amount of seed mix with the pellets. i think thats best, some confirmation would ease my concerns tho. he eats a bit of fresh food, i thinks its new to him. he likes brocoli and grapes so far! should i soak the seeds? how? silly question but i don't want to assume. should i mix the soaked seed with the pellets? vince is a hand reared baby. it took me 3 trys to get him in the cage. understandable as things were new and scary. he's been in the cage for around 28 hours now. when shall i let him out? he seems to want a bit of love but i don't want problems getting him back in! what were your '1st time out' experiences like? i'm sure i'll have more questions over the coming weeks/months so thanks for reading this and for any tips and info any of you give. me and vince thank you

Post edited by: retronut, at: 2008/10/16 22:33

 3. i LOVE family guy, thanks for the laugh!!
 4. ive read a lot about what to feed a grey, and how much and how often. it sounds simple to get a big list of fruit and veg, chop it up and serve with pellet or seed mix. i dont have a grey yet and im already stressed about feeding one, lol! id find it really interesting to hear how you all go about the feeding process. no big lists of good food, just a description of how you prepare your greys dinner and what and how you decide to feed them from day to day. also how many times a day do you refresh the dish and how much does a grey eat? thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply!

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2008/10/13 20:11

 8. hey all! as im planning on getting a grey soon i keep reading lots of alarming things during research. the one that is currently playing on my mind is the issue of bonding with the bird. id like to hear about when fellow members got their greys and how the bonding process played out? was it love at first sight (for both of you, lol!) or did you need a long time to be accepted by your bird? do younger birds take to new owners easily? do problems only really occur if you take on an older bird? i ask because ive heard the advise 'let the bird choose you' when you make your purchase. my problem is i dont drive and am planning on getting my bird from a breeder 4 hours drive away. the bird they deliver is mine, no choosing. i know this isn't ideal but i have no other option. the breeder seems good and someone on this site has used them and given me great feedback on them. where i live the only other way of getting a grey is from a pet store, i dont want to do that though. also. ive read about owners with a bird that hates men/women. is this born of circumstance? e.g. a bird with a male owner ends up hating the mans partner and therefore women in general. or do some birds just hate a gender for no known reason? so, add to my worries or tell me your happy story, lol!

Post edited by: retronut, at: 2008/10/13 17:31
 9. thanks for sharing everyone! great pic siobha9  when i get a grey i wouldn't allow the 2 to share out of the cage time. i just want to make sure the 2 cages being in the same room would be ok. if the cages are within a few feet of each other will they annoy each other or will they chatter to each other?
 10. thanks to everyone who has replied to my msg. this is a very nice and supportive place! i've read tones of stuff on this site. its good to hear 'real' stories of grey ownership.
 11. thanks Dave! i can look forward to a few weeks free of shaving a year, id hate to have to give them up!

 14. hello everyone. im new to the site and have been reading through a bunch of the threads on the forums. im currently researching before i purchase my grey. i was surprised to hear greys may react to women who change the colour of their nail polish. it was mentioned a couple of times as a possible reason for birds to act differently out of the blue? is this common? the reason i ask is this. im a bloke. i dont wear nail polish. but what happens if i let my beard grow? lol! if i have a holiday from work i usually do this. will my bird react in a similar way to these poor womens birds? i know its a silly question but it just got me thinking!
