  1. I have a question on the feeding chart.......if I am reading this right.......at 5-10 wks feed the baby 3 to 7 times? Between 8a.m. and 10p.m.? If I am feeding him every four hours is that correct? About four times a day? When making the transition to the cage at 7 wks, do I still need to have some type of heater in there? Mine is now six weeks and doing well on formula, I have been adding a few tiny pieces of green beans and peas to his feeding. He doesn't seem interested in pecking at it himself yet, although he will peck at his toy hanging in his box.
  2. love the pictures! I am sharing everything I learn with my daycare kids, they range from babies to school age. Thanks for teaching us!
  3. thanks, he looks a few weeks older than the nursery pictures of a six wk old,I wonder if the breeder got the birthdate wrong
  4. I understand folks that it should have been weaned before I got it, lesson learned a little to late, but its here now and I just want help raising it. Any suggestions will be great!
  5. the breeder also had a four wk old Amazon with her. I fed them all before I left so she was sure I could handle feeding it.
  6. Here is my baby, head is a little heavy, he was in a mad dash to be cuddled, usually takes three droppers full and then rushes over in a head shoveling mode to be cuddled. Yes I test the temp of his food, I feed him at 105 degrees as suggested on formula canister. He is chirping and growling a lot, very vocal.
  7. Thanks Dave, I had no idea that fruit was of no value to them. I give my adult grey all kinds of fruit and of course he loves it, I will be pushing the veggies more now. Thank you also for the advice on feeding veggies, at what age do you suggest I start feeding him veggies? As far as his cage, what do you think of me cutting the end off of his current plastic box so he could still go inside and be on the side with the heating pad?(with the box set inside the cage). Would you care to share the ingredients in your formula? I am interested to know what it is in it. I won't be changing his formula to it as you said it would upset him, but I am curious. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I have a lot to learn!
  8. great ideal! I think his box will fit in the cage and I can still plug in the heater too. Thanks for the ideal of using newspaper and towel in there. I stopped by the local hardware church today to get smaller plastic wire for the bottom of the cage but they didn't have any. Toys? all he has right now is his snuggle lion, what do you suggest for toys? I will send pictures soon. Thanks for you help
  9. I have a five week old Timneh, when do I introduce veggies and fruits into his diet and how? He is currently eating 3-4 droppers full a time, feeding about every four hours till ten at night. Also when do I put him in a cage, how do I go from heated box to cage. He is currently housed in a plastic box with a heating pad under 3/4 of it.
  10. my grey cracks almond shells and loves to play with them but with all other nuts I buy the precracked ones. The almond ones comes in a parrot treat pack. I just fed my grey oatmeal and added pecan chips and wow did he go to town as did my amazon! Great to find a hit since recently my experimentation with different veggies is a flop. They do like any veggies cooked with cornmeal muffins though so at least I know they are getting some when I cook those!
  11. I am so sorry for your loss. I know my own loss is still very fresh from my baby bird. Please know that he is now flying free and loving his new life!
  12. wow, I learn so much on here, my four year old grey has been flapping around a little more each day, most of the time after a shower and I am not moving fast enough back to his cage. I am now reading up on all your playstand ideals and hope to make one this weekend. Do you think this will help him want to fly too since he loves his cage so much? Like maybe he will try to fly to it from a play stand?

  14. is that baby toys clipped together and if so how did you attach it to the perch? I just love it and would love to learn to make something for my Timneh. By the way how do you say your birds name? My dogs name is Tika(Teeka)
  15. I have had my grey for just a few weeks and the previous owners said he only said a few things like hi and bye, whooooeeeeeeeeeee he talks all the time now and picks up new words right and left and sounds! He barks like my dogs, or should I say yelps like the yorky when she is excited. He even sounds like the push buttons on my phone. Oh, by the way, my bird is three or four so yep there is still a chance he will talk. My suggestion is to take him where ever you are and tell him what your doing. Treat him like a one or two year old and talk constantly, he just may pick it up!
  16. thanks so much! I will check it out!
  17. Can anyone tell me anything about the dangers of scented candles, plug ins, the candle wax melting pots such as scentsy? If they are dangerous to birds can I have them in rooms that the birds do not go in?
  18. wow, that is amazing! I am going to try to read his leg band tonight, he does not enjoy being touched except early morning and that is only for a scratch and then at night where he will really cuddle. We are working on learning the wave trick and maybe he will be more touchable with the tricks.

  20. wonder how I can get a hold of the breeder, I haven't looked at the band yet, I spent the evening watching my new video on teaching him tricks......then, we tried to learn to wave bye bye. I had very little luck with this I think I need to buy a wood stand for him, the portable one I have sits on the table top and its made of that rock like or grit like material and he loves to wipe his beak back and forth on it. Then we had to spend 45 min with him laying on my shoulder and him putting his head down over my chest so I could pet him. I think he would lay like that for hours! lol When I told him time for bed he didn't like that one bit! Just like half my daycare kids!
  21. thank you for that information! That is great! Now I can see how old my bird is! Well, if he will let me see it! He likes to cuddle best at night. I am so excited he is talking a blue streak for the last week! When he first came here he maybe said two words and then wow, now he has a great vocabulary.
  22. what are the bands on the leg for? What information do they tell me?
  23. thank you so much for your prayers and kind words.
  24. I am so sad, my little conure died today. She was only three months old, I don't know why she died. I am wondering if a febreeze candle could be the reason but she seemed weak long before I burned it this weekend. In fact, ever since we brought her home she favored the foot from where they took the blood. I am trying to rack my brain what I did wrong. I sprayed her with the aloe vera juice. I fed her fruits and veggies and pellets and she ate and drank well. I just loved that little bird, she was so awesome. Any hints on what I should watch for in my grey or my cockatiel in case whatever it was is catching?
