1. I just couldnt wait! lol! I was on the internet to see if my money was in my account... AND IT IS! I'm buying my grey today! I will also take pics today. What I'm going to buy today is.. The Grey. A big cage that opens at the top. 2 perches 1 play/table stand. A LOT of toys and food! A camera(you guys and gals also need to see what my Grey is going to look like. lol!) A smaller cage(only 6-7 weeks old.) A lamp. cant let the little guy or gal be cold! and its winter here so its pretty cold some times! Its 3:47am now. I will have pics at about 5pm. so just 12 long oh so long hours to wait before Gatiep is home!
2. lol! I can try. But atleast the grey wont die if I do cuddle. the fish would be a good thing to cuddle. its pretty smart. cuddle now. eat later! lol!
3. Hey! Welcome to the forum! Your right. Theres a lot of very helpful people here.
4. wow mel! very nice! and very inspiring! 1 karma
5. lol! cute little bird. Do all baby greys get a blueish chest when the start getting feathers?
6. lol! sounds like a very long shot. But possible none the less. It fasinates me to see how intelligent there birds are. I was at the pet shop today. I order a cage that can be opened at the top. a play stand. 2 perches. I have to choose between a grey and a seafishtank. the grey is R2200 and the cage is R2000. the same for the tank alone. Then with the coral and fish etc come close to R8000 in total for the tank and everything in it.. But either way. I'm taking the grey. the greys tail feathers are about 1 cm long. lol. it looks like all the feathers are "out of the shell" just need to get longer now. They said they bird only needs to be fed 3 times a day. Perfet. before school. after school and dinner time! But theres no doubt that I'm taking the grey! I want to have someone to talk to. not a bunch of nemo's that care about how salty there water is. lol!
7. so you think its possible that a smart enough grey can learn to read differnt card numbers?
8. i saw the vids on youtube! funny funny!
9. lol! If my bird is a talker. I can only imagen the things he is going to say! hey you!! get my coffee! Hey dog!! Be quite! funny funny!

Long shot.

I have a question... I know the birds can differ between coulers and shapes. but can they read? not in the sence of giving him a book. but like a card. Can you teach him to read a cards number. So it will be something like he can either say what number is what or count the number of spades or harts on a card.

12. lol! One way that I know of is that you can put the grey on a perch. the grey doesnt want him near. so you can award your grey with your BF leaving him alone for 10-15 seconds. so heres how it goes. let you BF get close to the grey BEFORE he starts growling or being uncomfertable. slowly let him try and toutch grey.then once he has entered the zone were the parrot doesnt like him to be. stay there untill the bird calms down. then if he has been calm for 5 or so seconds move away. then a while later let you BF try again. after a few tries you may see that your BF can get closer. It just depends on how much the grey disslikes your BF. I got an email of a video where somebody does that. It worked. lol I'm so glad I have internet!
13. hahaha! very clever! If you add 6 way connections at the top you can add another bar were you can hang toys from. or make it a square on the top were the parrot stands as well and then add another square at the top so there can be more place to move about and more places to put toys. Or you can use the square where the bird stands to add food bowls. Kudo's! you get one karma!

Post edited by: Christian, at: 2008/08/09 18:26
14. Christine???? hahahahaha!!! look again! ChristiAN. lmao! Let me put it better... I'm planning on being a daddy one day. lol! Just 2 more days!!! I'm gonna have a GAC! I'm going to study Natur Conservation next year so I really hope I can take the parrot with me. I heard that you can tell its sex when its 3-4 months old. So its either gonna be a Gatiep or a Marrai! lol! two names that appear in jokes
15. almost new grey. just a few more days to go.:woohoo:
16. ok.. so omega 3 and 6 fats are good for greys.. a easy way to get them is peanut butter.. as you may know that there somethimes is a oily layer on the peanut butter. try and get it off. it has a lot of omega 3 and 6 fats. body builders use peanut butter because its the good type of fat.
17. Welcome to the forum! I cant wait for mine now! I can play the guitar then he can sing! Idols here we come!! hahaha!

20. yeah I thought it was pretty young. but I looked at the pics from how they look at a sertain age. gatiep will be closer to 5-6 weeks. but I did read the how to feed thread and I understood every word. You guys are really supportive arent you. you guys rock!B)
21. I have a question... This might sound dumb. But i would rather sound dumb and get the right answer than say nothing and do something dumb... When you start giving the baby other foods but this nothing solid... can baby food be a bad thing?

potty training

My uncle had a sun conure and he goes potty when my uncle holds the bird out of the window(reason is because he if he was 2 months that would be a lot) but now i know how to potty train my grey. thanks!
23. Like I said on a other topic. Simply amazing little bird. Really like a child. @Mel... I read that they reach puberty at 4-5 years
