1. Has anyone else had their grey dunk their pellets in their water dish before eating them? Joey seems to dunk all of her pellets before eating them. do I just have a weird bird?
2. Well Joey is home and I have some pictures. We're planning on replacing her cage soon since this one is rusty. Check out the pics, some of her feathers have grown back in red.

Post edited by: pmaholm, at: 2008/08/03 03:48
3. One of the Amazons where we got Refund and Joey from sings opera when she feels like it. it's hilarious. -Patrick
4. I'm not sure, we've found it at couple of supermarkets it just says "Lactose Free Cheese" or something to that effect.
5. Well in about an hour or so we're going to go pick up Joey and bring her home. We'll try and be sure to take lots of pictures. -Patrick
6. Welcome to the forums Amanda and Co! I think you'll find as I have in the past couple weeks that the members on here are friendly and knowledgeable. Good luck and welcome again! -Patrick
7. Refund flaps every time he gets out on top of the cage, I think he does it for exercise or to relieve stress. he creates a nice bit of wind. It looks funny because he looks like he's trying to fly away but has this look like "I wanna go but it's scary!" -Patrick
8. Thanks for the info Cagal! Any bit of money saved is a good thing.
9. She's so adorable! I can only hope ours will ever look that good.
10. There ya go, I fixed the link. It's the 32" by 24" cage. Powder Coated, I'd love to go stainless but it's a bit out of the budget right now. -Patrick
11. http://www.mybirdstore.com/PLAY_TOP_CAGES-PLAY_TOP_WITH_TOY_HOOK_32_x23_POWDER_COATED.html This is the cage Refund is currently in and he seems to like it. I was thinking about ordering a second one for Joey. Just looking for opinions, if anyone knows where we could get a larger cage for comparable pricing feel free to let me know. :woohoo: Right now we're just exploring options and all I have to go on is google search results Thanks again all! -Patrick

Post edited by: pmaholm, at: 2008/07/29 18:21
12. Thanks for the info. Our hope was to make it so Joey was primarily my bird and Refund was Megs, so both birds would always be someones #1 bird.
13. Thanks! we've just been seeing a lot of down at the bottom of the cage and didn't know how much down they're supposed be grooming out! his chest was completely bare of regular feathers when we got him, so we'll be waiting for the molt on that
14. Looks like I'm digging this one out of the graveyard. does anyone know of any bird safe paints out there? It looks like a cage we may be getting has some rust on it, we will be replacing the cage at some point but that may be up to a year off, we'd prefer to take care of the rust at least short term until we can buy a new cage. I think I could also get the guys here in maintenance to sandblast it so it would be extra clean and a good surface for paint.
15. Right now we cover any windows and or mirrors when we have Refund out of his cage, we just use a couple of old sheets and drape them over the windows and or mirrors. I also jokingly say that since our windows are old single pane and have the plastic film over the insides of them he'd just bounce off I know however the crash to the floor would be the worst, so we'll keep out blinds closed
16. I think we've decided we want to get a second Grey, for a couple of reasons. 1, it's kind of annoying for us to compete for refunds time and attention not to mention he seems to have bonded to Meg and not me! I don't know if this has anything to do with the first owners husband hitting him, although I think he may have a deep rooted mistrust of men, he always seems to peep and make noises to any women who come to see him but not too interested in men. 2. with both of us at work all day we think it'd be nice for Refund to have someone else in the same room with him. 3. We met the most wonderful Grey yesterday her name is Joey and she used to be refunds mate, we got her out of the bird room into a bathroom where we could sit with her and she came right over to us and would step up and step down. She also didn't mind us petting her on the head. Joey also seems to have little to no behavioral problems like we're working through with refund. Also she seemed to like me better than Meg  4. We want another bird in our life. 5. We want another bird in our life. :woohoo: Sooo the question is, would Joey and Refund be ok in the same room if they'd been paired for so long ~10years, they would be kept in separate cages and have individual out of cage time(at least to start) I also think I would keep Joey in a separate room for at least a few weeks. Questions? Comments? Concerns? P.S. we have a sample of Harrisons coming for refund to try, if he likes it we'll be switching to that. Thanks all! -Patrick
17. Welcome to the forums, I hope you'll be as excited and happy with all of the good advice from everyone as I have! -Patrick
18. Hello all, as you've probably seen by the pictures Refund is plucked pretty clean. We were wondering if there's any way we can tell if he's still plucking? How fast do feathers grow back? I know we were told he probably wouldn't get feathers until he molts the next time, but how quickly should down be growing back? Thanks! -Patrick
19. I bought a very small amount of pine nuts since they're so expensive. $12.99 a pound the only place I was able to find them . We're still in the experimentation stage. We tried spaghetti last night and of course he was afraid of it . he did however like zucchini. Darn bird is eating better than me  -Patrick
20. OK here's one that Refund likes. Take equal amounts of veggies fresh or frozen, chop them very fine with a food processor or otherwise, microwave for 20-30 seconds on high with about 1 tablespoon of water(depends on how many veggies more for larger amounts). Drain any excess water, mix in a small amount of shredded cheddar cheese and about 1 Tablespoon of Flax Seeds. -Patrick
21. We had also thought about lactose free cheese but it's pretty expensive. -Patrick
22. another one, someone's trying to hide behind their pinata!
23. the nearly plucked clean and ragged. Refund. We're hoping he looks better in a year or so.
24. I was wondering what everyones Greys like best for their treats, we've been giving Refund just about every fruit and veggie we can think of to get a feel for what he likes. So far the only treats that are the most desirable are KayTee Mango Yogurt Dips, and almost any type of cheese. Thoughts anyone?
25. Thank you for the replies! I agree and don't understand how anyone could hit a bird for somthnig like that. I've already gotten it through my head that I will be bitten not and if but a when
