  1. Thank you, those sites had a pretty good list of names and some not so common. Thank you once again.
  2. Ok I have been reading through all of the post I can find about how to name or what other people have named their companion birds. I originally thought that I would approach it just like I did when I chose the name of my son. Unfortunately it took months and was not something that time permitted to judging personality. From all of the reading I have done about Grays it seems that what their personality is when they are babies can changes many times as they get older. I also understand 1 and 2 syllable names work best due the ease of learning them. I have always strived to do everything I can in a different way from everyone else. I know it is sometimes not possible, however, I am really stuck on ideas for my soon to be companion (several months from now due to my desire to wait until he/she is fledged) I intend to have the DNA sexing performed. Not that it really matters but I would like to know and think it will be good information to have for vet and health checks. I also do not want to name my companion “Fred" and have him lay an egg. How big of a problem would that be? I don't think it would be that bad but hey I can say I am glad my parents did not name me “Sue"! I understand this post might have come a million times before and I apologize but there does not seem to be any Books on “names for your Companion bird." Maybe just a list of names would help. Just bouncing them around like most of us did or will do when we have human children. Thank you all for the warm welcome and I hope the billion questions I will ask will not ruffle anyone's feathers too much. JC = Big_ Squishy
  3. I believe I found my Bird store! I have been calling for weeks and finally found an all bird store with a staff that makes me feel that they provide the best possible care for Companion birds. I am not sure if I am allowed to put up their link, Will do it anyways, i can always removed it or Admin can I am sure. This Woman Karen spoke with me forever on the phone and in my opinion cares more for the happiness and care of all birds not just those she has for sale. I had mentioned to her that I lived a long way from her store and that I was thinking about buying from a local bird store. She did not get offended or cut the conversation short, instead she offered me things to look for, questions to ask to make sure the store raised the birds correctly. She has a clutch of 3 birds that just hatched and although I will not be able to make more than one or 2 trips to visit the bird, I feel that she will help me in evaluating the babies and make an educated guess on which one might be best for my home and family. Please check out her site and tell me what you think or if you have had any dealings with her positive or negative. I am so excited! Even though choosing to buy from her will delay actually having my new companion in my home for a few months. I feel this is the best way I ccan go about it and now all I have to do is wait and learn everything I can to be best prepared. Here is her site link. http://www.birdsandmore.com/index.html[/url]

  5. Hello, I am 32 years young. Have active duty navy since 1 Sep 1993, roughly 15 years. I grew up with several kinds of birds. Blue and golds, cockatoos, coakatiels, canors, Amazons and a few others. I have always wanted to be owned by an AG. I still to this day have not found the right bird for me. Every place I look seems to care more about making a sale than the health and happiness of the birds. I found a beautiful CAG here in san Diego, however , they claim the bird is only 8 weeks old and that it will be weaned in the next 2 to 3 weeks. I am no expert but I have been doing my home work. If I remember correctly 20-24 weeks is the earliest amount of time for weaning. I do not want to buy a bird and then have trouble weaning it due to regression nor do I want to miss the flock/mate bonding by taking over with the parent bond. I may be over reacting or being over cautious, but I plan to have this bird until I am too old to care for it and then pass it on to one of my children. I want a CAG ASAP. I have already picked out the cage, toys perches and extras perches. My apartment has been set up to provide the most comfortable enviornment for my famlies newest member. Should you have some ideas or contact info for a breeder or responcible pet/bird store between San Diego and LA California Please let me know. i am so excited to finally be able to afford and be off sea duty and finally brind a CAG home. Hope get to know some of you here. V/R JC
  6. Hello I am Big_Squishy. I am in search of a responcible breeder and or store to buy my first AG from In or near San Diego California up to the los Angeles area. I found two places and one looks great and the people are nice but were trying to tell me that I could take a 10 week old grey home and from all 9 of the books i have read not one sugest that a Grey can be weaned before close to 20-24 weeks at the best. The bird is beautiful however. I do not want to resk the Flock/mate bond, by accepting the Grey while it is still in the parental bonding stage. What should I do and am I being over cautious??
