Hello Vturner and Budster.
Welcome to the group.
My CAG Misty who is six loves to make up tunes and he also has a lovely vibrato. One of his favorites is to whistle a phrase and then he looks at me to whistle a reply. He also has a signature contact tune that he calls out and I will reply. Some of his tunes are quite beautiful. I like to listen to a radio soap called "The Archers" When he hears the signature tune he tries to whistle along to it. He is also a very good talker and can use words in context. Greys are such a wonderful combination brains, beauty and mischief.
I am unsure about that. Since Misty has become fully flighted he can maneuver with remarkable accuracy and has shown no sign of clumsiness when playing on his gym.
Indeed. Most predators have their eyes at the front not at the side like parrots.
Your parrot will mostly look at you with his head side on. It must take a while for them to understand that humans are not a threat.
My GAG will not fly to me when I look directly at him.
I give up !! I have been trying to attach a graphic to my message
First it demands the pic be less than 500 pix across then it says it wont accept JPGs
only PDF or GZ !! I tried a PDF and that won't work either I am
going to lose all my feathers doing this !
Any way. I was going to say I have just uploaded some pics to the Photo Album.
I doubt that an occasional sip will do any harm but caffeine is not good for parrots.
Try him with warm water when you have your tea. My Misty loves this.
If you can whistle, copy your parrots tunes back to him. My Misty loves this.
He will whistle a short phrase and looks at me to whistle back. He then changes the tune slightly and listens for my reply. This can go on for some time.
He also plays the "Drop"game. He will drop a small fruit like a lichee off the edge of the table and then says "dropped orange"or "dropped cabbage".He then looks at me expecting I will pick it up. Another is the "Tickle Game". When he wants a tickle he will say "Yourallright" or "Tickel tickel" and lower his head. When I stop he will repeat the phrase and I start over. He will not permit tickles except on his own terms.

Post edited by: Mistyparrot, at: 2008/05/17 16:08
Hello I am Steve and I live in the UK with Misty who is now 6. He is very smart and a good talker and enjoys making Grey tunes. He is fully flighted and only goes in his cage to sleep at night.
Caffeine is not good for parrots so tea is to be avoided. Probably what he likes
is the warmth. I had the same thing with Misty. He was always wanting some of my tea or coffee.I solved the problem by offering him a tumbler of warm water.
He loves this and now insists on "water" as soon as he comes out of his cage in the morning when I have my coffee. In fact he seems fascinated by water. In the kitchen when I run a tap (faucet) he will say "water water water!" but if I pick up the tea pot he says "cuppa tea" or if i make coffee he will say "coffee". He will often ask for "water"during the day but if it is cold or not hot enough he will often show his displeasure by lightly nipping my fingers. He always has fresh water available but he prefers his "slave" to get him hot water !
