  1. That makes me sick to my stomach. He is putting countless numbers of parrots and owners at risk to buy a bigger ring and a trip around the world?????????? Are you kidding me????? I think that testimonial/article needs to be sent to every site we run across that has his ad on their site. I for one will no longer buy from any site that runs his ads. These are living beings, not some new problem solving 10 cents of plastic for 29.95 gadget!
  2. Sorry hon, laughing and green with envy here. It could be worse. My Dorian is a sucker for peanut butter filled pretzel bites, she races to her food bowl for them when we trick her in to going back inside her cage. But, even think about touching her and you're taking your life in to your own hands. Can't wait for the next installment of the story. Good luck hon. I don't have near the experience the others do but my instinct would be to not let her out during morning time for a day or two....maybe let Oisin out and let Liath see how much fun it is to be a good little birdie . But that's probably wrong, for lots of good reasons....lol.

    RIP Angel

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I know it's difficult when we lose a beloved friend.
  4. Congrats Tracy! She's adorable!

    Grey Fun

Thanks Nychsa, I wasn't sure it was "fun" we were having...thanks for clearing that up, hehehe  I didn't think Conures were prone to being one-person birds, but so far, ours definitely IS! He tries to attack me from 10 feet away, but Pete can pet him within an inch of his life. It's almost funny when we are both standing there, we take turns trying to pet him and he'll lunge for me and lick and snuggle up to Pete's hand. It's like flipping a switch! LOL Good to know the potential is there for the grey/conure combo though! Thanks! Pam

    Grey Fun

Dorian has been coughing since the day we got her two months ago, this last week she kept at it for what seemed like hours, I tried saying other things to her that we've heard her say in order to get her to stop but to no avail. Finally, I said "that's quite a cough you have there" and ignored her. The other night we had turned out the lights and were going to bed and the coughing fit started up again.....in the middle of it she pipes up with "that's quite a cough you have there".....lol. She also says "WHAT?" in my voice, and "Hey!" in my fiance's. She bumped her head on the cage one day just after we got her and said "ouch, sh*t" (in HIS voice, lol). She and Oscar (our new blue crown conure) are alternating time out of the cage and they have now taken to seeing how long each other can stay out so the other won't get their turn. Sunday Oscar was out of his cage, had been for a while, I was working on my computer 5 feet away, but not watching really closely. I turned around to see if he was back inside yet and was surprised to see him sitting on top of Dorian's cage pretty as you please. She did not raise a ruckus at all, but was giving him quite the evil eye. I don't know how long he had been up there but he was NOT happy about getting off! These two are keeping us in stitches and Dorian is an expert at getting our attention by mumbling...she says new things just clearly enough for us to know it's words but not clearly enough for us to understand and then we spend the next half hour trying to get her to say it again while she sits there silent as a statue....lol. She's got us very well trained! hehe:silly:
  7. Congrats Acapella, sounds like a good time was had by all.....eventually.
  8. I carried my camera all day and didn't think once to take it out.....lol. Maybe next time since it all won't be so new .
  9. judygram wrote: heavens no, don't even think of returning him where he came from, things will get better in time, just be patient. :silly: It was a joke.....he's not going anywhere, lol. But I think SHE would like it better if he did, and I'm not sure she cares where he goes as long as he goes...hehehehe. Glad to hear we're on the right track with acclimating her to a new flock mate. Patience seems to be the key with most everything concerning these fids . Hugs! Pam
  10. They had everything from finches to macaws (oh, and two stands with puppies  ) including a strange looking bird I'd never seen before that I can't remember the name of (wish I'd thought to get a picture of it). Some of the birds were reasonable or a deal, some seemed to be inflated for "show pricing", and some had a lot of birds crammed in to cages that would have been too small for even one bird . Finches, parakeets, cockatiels, and green cheek conures seemed to be very abundant. I guess because they are easier to breed, raise, transport and sell. All in all, it was fun. I got some deals on the stuff I bought and I will go back. :silly:
  11. Thanks all! Oscar (formerly Connor) seems to be settling in to his new cage nicely.....we opened his door yesterday just to see if he'd venture out and he did for a bit, but he's quick to get back in there if we walk in the room, or move from the couch. He's tried out the new bed briefly and has taken himself a couple of baths in his water bowl, lol. Dorian is jealous, but we are maintaining the "Dorian first" rules so we haven't seen any really bad setbacks from bringing Oscar home. She is a little more nippy and seems to be punishing us by not talking or interacting with us as much, but we just keep acting as if everything is normal. I hope that will eventually bring her around that this doesn't have to be a bad thing. Any suggestions on how to make this better for her? Short of taking him back where he came from which seems to be her idea.....lol. Have a greyt day! Pam
  12. I did enjoy it....they had several good vendors there, and some really good deals on cages and some of the birds. It was my first, so I don't really have anything to compare it to . I took my camera, but was so busy looking at everything I forgot to take any pictures...I'll try to remember to get some at the next one in September.
  13. Oh, maybe we should have a "forum" sale for all the stuff we've bought that they won't touch......I have a playstand too.....and a bunch of toys she couldn't care less about....not to mention different foods. Pete teased me that I'm going to keep buying birds until I find ones that will use all the stuff I've bought for Dorian...hehehe.
  14. Mary, I know you weren't , didn't take it that way . I have the book Tracy recommended, but realized I haven't read it since the day after we got Dorian and should probably re-read it just to make sure I'm still on track with what we're doing. I will check out the one you suggested too, I'm open to suggestions at this point. Acapella, Any progress with Dorian?
  15. bettyboop, I'm trying to be patient, it was never one of my strong suits.....lol. I know that it's going to take a very long time for her to overcome all of the things she's been through, if it ever happens. Either way, we love her more than I thought possible and she's with us for good. She's made amazing progress in two months, and makes more every day. The most important thing to me is that she is safe and cared for and will never have to go through those things again, and that someday she realizes this. Hugs, Pam
  16. LOL Fairy......a bit too far for a lot of the members I'm sure

    Tui

I'm so sorry Andrew! I'll be keeping good thoughts and everything crossed for you to find Tui. I hope she gets back home safe and sound, I can only imagine how much your heart aches for her.
  18. Kristen, There's another one there on September 21st. My fiance' will probably make me leave the checkbook home next time though...thanks to Oscar the Blue Crown Conure I couldn't pass up for $150, even though I was NOT buying a bird....lol. Although he now wants an Amazon...hehe.
  19. Congrats! Spring is def in the air in this forum!! Babies, babies everywhere!
  20. Acapella, I feel your frustration. We're in the same boat. We're just waiting Dorian out and hoping that with every good experience she'll remember that and less of the bad ones. It's going to take a long, long time I'm afraid, but it's going to be worth it! And it may never happen, which is a reality I have to get used to. Hugs, from one frustrated Dorian owner to another . Pam
  21. Thanks for all the info Dave, we do have a re-homed CAG who is doing pretty well, considering all she went through. This morning the two of them are mimicking back and forth and raising quite a ruckus I guess. (I'm at work and missing all the fun, lol) We did get lots of hanging toys and ropes as I had done some research on conures before we even got our CAG so I had some idea of what he would need. One thing I am not sure of though, while I'm posting.....do I need to get him a cuttlebone or mineral block? Our CAG has a mineral block, but never uses it, and the cockatiel has a cuttlebone....wasn't sure which the conure needs.
  22. Siobha, he isn't hand tame....his original owner had him very tame and she got a new boyfriend and Oscar, as in "the grouch" (formerly Connor) HATED him so he hasn't really been handled much for a while. She gave him to her aunt who has quite a few birds but he hated her too and I don't think she had much time to try to convince him to like her. We got him from the aunt who had a few birds at the show that she was re-homing. Several of the vendors there had massive amounts of birds to sell, and I wouldn't buy from any of the "breeders for profit" that I saw. We haven't been able to get him to step up yet, I figured to give him a few days to settle in and then I'd start working on that, I'm sure he knows the command. I wasn't buying a bird......lol.......so I had to buy a cage, toys, a bed, etc.....lol. Oh, and I couldn't come home without things for Dorian too... Tari, we are keeping everything separate and hand sanitizing/washing between handling them and their stuff. Do we need to put him in a separate room? If so he'll be off in a room no one uses all alone and 45 days is a long time for him to not be very socialized with us. He's a grouch, which is why I want to change his name. But considering the issues Dorian had and how quickly we've made progress with her I'm certain with love, patience, treats, and persistence we can turn him around. Judy, he is a bit of a clown, we got him in a nice new big cage last night and he just kept doing laps around the top of the cage. Pete and I just kept laughing at the upside down pacing. He seems willing to explore the cage more this morning. Thanks for the comments on the pic, hoping to have more soon!
  23. Went to a bird fair today, I was NOT buying a bird.......I was prepared to have my heart strings tugged repeatedly, but I was NOT buying a bird!!! Toys for Dorian, maybe some ideas of stuff to make for her, maybe even a huge new cage. Yeah, I came home with an 8 year old DNA sexed male Blue Crown Conure named Connor. I know MBS is not a laughing matter, but I can't help but laugh at myself for being so easily convinced by a 14" long feathered sour puss that I needed to bring him home. Dorian seems to be tolerating him well so far, he had a long day so he's mostly hanging from the top of his new cage sleeping, which Pete finds hilarious. I was looking for a conure when we found Dorian, makes me wonder what we'll get next year when I planned to get a baby Grey.....lol. Have a greyt day! Pam
  24. Is anyone else from Northern California going to Pleasanton Sunday, May 18, 2008?? I am going and thought it might be neat to meet others from here over there, even if it's just to say hi! My picture is on my profile, if you see me there be sure to say hi goldn1! Have a greyt weekend! Pam
  25. Since we got Dorian we've been invaded by chihuahuas, pigs, ducks, cats, tigers/lions, cockatiels, random wild birds, a whole pack of small children squeaking balloons, answering machines, telephones, a roomful of coughing, throat clearing, laughing people! And those are just the sounds.....she's got a whole bunch of sentences we wonder about too, lol.
