  1. Thanks for your help. I like the look of the aviator harness best, the feather teather looks harder to put on. They do a petite one too, but the place I get all my parrot things from haven't got any at the moment, they are out of stock. I was looking at the flight line as well, it's expensive! Think I'll think about that one later on!
  2. Thank you for sharing your experience with your green cheek! I like Indian ring necks too, but they're a tad noisy!
  3. I know, it's awful! There are 2 babies left to choose from. Yellow sided conures can't be visibly sexed can they? Are there any tips on how to get a boy?!
  4. I haven't thought of a name yet. I will post some pics of him/her. I'm terrible, I feel like a child who can't wait for their birthday! I've been counting the days down! I want my new baby now!
  5. On Friday evening, I'm going to pick up my new 12 week old yellow sided green cheeked conure and I'm really excited! How do I make sure Tuki (our CAG) doesn't feel left out? Should I set the new baby's cage up now, so Tuki gets used to the empty cage first? Even though Tuki likes my partner more than me, and rarely chooses to come to me, I still don't want her to feel left out. I've always been the only one home all day most days, and I always talk to Tuki, and we enjoy grapes together. I wish I could handle her more, but all she'll let me do is get her on my hand if she's stuck somewhere and wants help back to her cage! I'm hoping to spend lots of time with the new baby, and have him/her out a lot with me as I'm home most days of the week. I'd also like to get a harness for the baby to get it used to one early on so I can take it out with me. Does anyone have any tips, or know of any good harnesses? Many thanks.
  6. I'm sooooo excited! Friday evening, I'm going to pick up my 12 week old hand reared yellow sided green cheeked conure! I can't wait. I've always wanted a cuddly parrot, and I'm hoping I can handle this bird, as my CAG only really likes my partner. I'm so looking forward to getting my new baby!
  7. Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me!
  8. Is it possible for greys to mate with other species? (Like an electus or something?) I know the red factor does appear in greys, but could it also be caused by crosses?
  9. Since I found a bit of red in Tuki's wing feather, I've been looking on the internet, and found some pics of pretty red factors. This one has to be my favourite though! http://photos-e.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v203/46/26/662066440/n662066440_686252_8688.jpg
  10. Yes! That's it, lol! I've just never noticed it on her before!
  11. I've put a photo of it in my profile pics! It's only a tiny bit of red!
  12. I tried to put a pic of it up, but it said my pic was too big! I'm glad it's nothing to worry about! I thought red factors had bits of red all over them?

  14. Today I noticed that Tuki has a tiny bit of red in one of her wing feathers! Does this mean anything is wrong, or can this just happen sometimes?
  15. She totally ignores her, the same as my dogs do! If Tuki gets too close, Tilly moves out of the way as she's had her tail bitten by Tuki before! Tuki has bitten my terriers nose and made it bleed before too! She loves biting the other pets, which isn't very good. I have 3 daughters, 1 is a baby, and I don't let my girls near Tuki. Occasionally, she has crept under the table while we're eating, and bitten my daughters toes!
  16. It's certainly chaos in our house! I often wonder how many words she can say, but she says so many things that I didn't even try counting!
  17. Even if my cat ignores her, at least Tuki would let me know when she's come in!
  18. When I turned round, she ran out of the door, so I don't know if it was me turning round, or Tuki shouting! She tells my dogs off too, but they totally ignore her! She says their names, and if they sniff around her cage, she says go away or no. When I open the door to let the dogs out, she says go and do a wee! She tells them to go and lay down. Sometimes she calls their names and then says come here, or if I tell them off, she says their names in an angry voice and says very bad grrrr. She picks things up very quickly. I've never heard her bark like our dogs though, but she does whine like our little terrier! At night time, she says night night when she wants to be covered up, but in the morning when we first get up, she says night night as well! I think she just wants to be uncovered, and she associates the words with the cover. Even though it's the wrong words, I still thought it was clever of her to say that!
  19. We have a cat who doesn't really come in the house much. Now it's nice weather however, all the doors are open, and the cat has been cheeky and gone upstairs a few times, which she is definitely NOT allowed to do! Yesterday, I caught her going up the stairs, so I shouted "OUT!" She ran as fast as she could out the door! Tuki usually meows if she hears the bell on her collar or if she sees her. Today, I was putting some washing in the machine, then I heard Tilly's bell. No sooner had I heard the bell, Tuki shouted "OUT!" It was so loud, it frightened the life out of me! Then I just burst out laughing and thanked Tuki! It was sooooo funny!
  20. They get so angry and they screech at the toy with all their feathers fluffed up and their angriest eyes with tiny pupils! They make you die sometimes!

  22. Tuki does that with her bell and she flings it with all her might. When she 1st had her bell, she used to fling it and it would come back and hit her in the head! She's learned to duck now when it swings back!
  23. Thank you. I have tapped on the glass before to show her, but she didn't quite get it! I have clipped her wings a couple of times before. The only mistake I made the 1st time was leaving a few of outer feathers on the wing. She got them stuck in the bars of her cage. We put Tuki back on her playstand all the time and she never stayed on it long. There were toys and food on it, but she'd rather go and terrorize the dogs, or bite someones feet, or chew my daughters pictures up! Oh well, I guess I'll be forever more scrubbing poo off the carpet etc etc!
  24. When we 1st got Tuki, we bought a huge metal playstand, (about £200) and put loads of toys on it. She wouldn't stay on it though, she just wanted to get off it. She would never sit on the actual perch, she'd sit on the curved metal frame bit, looking really uncomfortable! Her bum would be hanging over the edge, so none of the poos went onto the tray, they all went on the floor. She used to climb down off the perch, slide down the metal side bars onto the tray, then slide down the legs onto the floor and bugger off an chew something around the house or bite someone's feet! We ended up dumping the stand as it was so huge and took up loads of space. I wish she would stay on a stand. I'd love to have her in the living room to watch telly with us when we sit down. I'm thinking I need a simple one maybe? I don't know! I know she needs her wings clipped as she's fully flighted and now I have my baby daughter, I'm worried she's gonna fly at her and land on her or something, and I don't know if she'd bite her. She's also flown into the window and french doors a couple of times as she thinks she can fly through the glass! I really don't want her to do herself damage. I feel I have a bit more control over her when her wings are clipped and I think she relies on me a bit more. She's not the frendliest bird!

    Hi

I think height is important. They love to get high up to see what's going on! Buy the largest cage you can afford to buy. Even if they are going to spend a lot of time out of the cage, it still needs to be a good sized cage.
