  1. I have just a quick question. I have been using a spray bottle to give Kenya a shower. When I do this he doesn't fly away or anything but will face the bottle with open beak and squak. My first impression was he was mad with it but I am wondering if he is just playing with it. As soon as I am done I can scratch his neck without a problem so I don't think he's mad at me at least for doing it. Although, if I am going to give him a neck scratch, I don't think he would care either what I just did to him, he would still put his head down and stretch out so I can get in a good neck scratch. Just wondering what everyone else thinks, does it sound like he enjoys it or not?
  2. Congrats Raposa. Jenna will be very happy with you. Come join the baby group now B) .
  3. Those were great Heather. Kenya also could hear it and was squaking away the whole time. Goldn1, I think they can tell from the clip it is another Grey.
  4. Hi Smithie, wow, that's alot of questions I don't have any real answers for you so hopefully someone with more knowledge will be here soon. At what age will be bringing him home? If you are waitting until he is fully weaned then the answer would be the Breeder would be taking care of most of those problems for you, except the talking, that's up to you.

    Welcome!

This room will be a great idea. I think it should be for not just weaning Grey's but new Grey owners as well who have just received their Grey's as well as the Parront's are still in training . Would the rule of thumb be two years of age and younger?
  6. I went to the Vet for Kenya's first check-up. There was no mention of an anesthetic at all. They did towel him as they also trimmed the nails and toke some feathers for sexing. They said he was a very healthy bird and no real problems (although he did bite the Vet very hard but she said she barely notices anymore because she deals with so many birds).
  7. Congrats Lovelylew. You must be so proud.
  8. Hi Lupa, Kenya is going for his first check-up with me on Saturday. So far the Vet has not even mentioned this at all. However, I'll let you know if my vet does/doesn't do this so you can know a couple of days before your appointment, k?
  9. LOL Jane, that must have been a funny sight with Rangi. Yeah, the walnut kept him busy but didn't want to tease him too much with it either so last night I got it started for him. Lovelylew, thanks for the information on number of peanuts per day. I hadn't heard any number but want to leave it as a treat so the most I have been giving is 3 a day. I think we should start a "Baby Room" thread, now that Micha has just brought home her 2 month old Grey and Raponda (sp?) should be bringing her new Grey home soon (I think she was two months behind me) .
  10. LOL, there she is Cute picture. Congratz again!
  11. I don't see the picture Micha, but congrats on bringing Tuca home B)
  12. Looks like he is getting over his plucking, congrats.
  13. WTG there Lovelylew. Now the problem will become how to keep him IN the cage:blink: . Last night I gave Kenya a walnut (he loves peanuts) and it is funny watching him try to open it. I think he knows there are goodies instead but it's a bit too difficult for him to break open, but he is trying (keeps him busy). I figure if he doesn't have it open by tonight (after work) I'll try to crack it for him. Lovelylew & Jane, have your babies said any words yet (did the breeder tell you if they were talking before)? Nothing from Kenya yet.
  14. Voted, some really good pics on here.
  15. Thanks everyone, hope you enjoyed them!
  16. Your doing fine Lovelylew, he is starting to take food from your hand so that's good progress. When he does finally come out (even if it is on the cage but outside, a middle ground) be ready with some treat that he wants but doesn't get while in the cage, this will encourage him to come out again. Acappella, wonderful suggestion there with opening the mail on the floor. I'll have to try that.
  17. Then I got him on the counter with some toys and treats and we had a blast. Sorry about the multiple posts, I don't know how to get multiple pics in one post yet. Hope everyone enjoys the pictures.
  18. After I get him off the plant he goes to his next favorite hang out, the shoulder, LOL.
  19. Here are some pictures of Kenya home after the long wait. This first picture was his first adventure out of the cage. I guess the plastic plant was calling him somehow.
  20. Your making progress with Obi there Lovelylew. I find Kenya really likes it when I scratch on the side of his head, below the ear and eyes. He will close his eyes when I do this and only move to give me more room to continue last night. Once you manage to get to scratch the back of his neck (safer as he has to turn his head around to bite from there) move your fingers forward to that spot and see if he really likes that. I'm thinking then he might want it even more. Karma for you in making progress today! BTW, I really do like Obi's name too. Jane, wht name did you give your Grey?
  21. Hi Jane, congrats. I guess we now have triplets, LOL. Kenya will now come out of his cage right away but stay on his cage until he is ready; however, don't try to force me out of the cage, then I won't come out. He wasn't eatting much the first couple of days (except peanuts) but last night he ate a fair amount so I think that is turning around. LMG, thanks. I am sure the questions will come a flying soon enough as we get to know them and then wonder why they do that. Better get those fingers warmed up for answers .
  22. They said Kenya is 16 weeks old but for some reason my gut tells me he is 15 weeks old. It was a 1 1/2 hour drive each way for me too; however, I went every other week for 2 months to visit him and see how he was doing, let him get familiar with me, (I even made sure to wear the same shirt everytime to help him, LOL), get some training, etc. They were good breeders. Two visits ago he wasn't very good at step up so I asked if they would work on that with him for me and he is way better. I'm the same, I'll refer to Kenya as him but don't really know. I've already noticed that when the microwave is going he chirps and wags his tails alot, wondering if he like the "Hmmmmm" sound. And he LOVES peanuts, about the only food he takes from me, all others he pulls back (I'll put them in his food dish and later he will get them but not from the hand, only peanuts).
  23. I will have to get him into the carrier very carefully, LOL. I just hope the last trip hasn't tramatized him to the carrier as he was quite freaked out by it. But I don't think it will be too bad as I am able to handle him. If all else fails, I'll use a perch to get him to stepup. He is fairly good at it I think. Nobody has mentioned the need for me to get vaccinations, maybe the breeder dealt with that already, I don't know. I'll find out on Saturday I guess. I have had a cockateil in the past but I think that's like practicing on a tricycle to learn how to bike, hehe. And feel free to ask all the questions you want. I thought it was cool that we both recieved our Greys on the same day :woohoo: .
  24. Hey Lovely, I will be getting Kenya sexed when I take him/her to the Vet on Saturday so I don't know yet. When I was trying to take him out of the travel cage he was growling but not really since. Yes, patience is key. At this point I am not going to force him out of the cage but will try to coax him out. I find opening the door and talking to him and then leave him alone and do something just out of his line of sight (or he has to crawl out of the cage to see what your doing) works to get him to come out .
  25. Hi Lovelylew, I also got my Grey on Saturday. Very exciting time, isn't it. I had more problems getting him out of the travel cage but all went fine in the end. I can't force him out of the cage yet either (give him time to settle in first) but once he is out I can hold him and pet his neck for a few seconds at a time. Have fun and congrats on your new addition.
