  1. I have read that these birds go through a nesting phase at certain times of the year, but haven't seen when that would be. Do birds go through this at certain times of the year, or are they pretty much on their own schedules?
  2. This might be somewhat related to my post about how Rascal might love some of her toys too much, but the behavior is a little different so I decided to start a new thread. Rascal seems to have a strange obsession with the paper towel I keep on the table to clean up her frequent messes. She loves to unroll the paper towel, but then she puts her head down, ruffles her feathers, and scratches at it sort of like she's digging a hole. She's not trying to tear it though. It doesn't matter whether the paper towel is on a roll standing up or if it's a folded sheet that I've been holding her over to poop on, she goes crazy with it. Any ideas would be very helpful!
  3. Here's the image again, the RIGHT size this time.
  4. Here's a picture of her snuggling up to a plastic bowl from her playstand.
  5. I have removed the toy from that particular location, but now she tries to do this outside the cage as well. She'll hunch down on a plastic toy on the table, even while I'm sitting right there with her, and cover it with her wings. She doesn't react when I take it away, but I don't want to have to take all her toys from her. Any suggestions?
  6. Sounds like some good advice. I'll try hanging the toys a bit further from the perch so that she can still get to them, but can't snuggle up to them unless she's hanging from the side of the cage with both feet.
  7. Justin 224 - You can message me if you like, but my activity here may be sporadic, so if it takes me a while to get back to you it's not because I don't care.
  8. Hi, my name is Mike, and I recently purchased a 10 year old Congo Grey named Rascal. The breeder said he'd bought her from a couple going through a divorce and moving, and he was going to have her as a breeding bird, but she turned out to not have any interest in the males he had, so here we are. I've been reading quite a few posts on this site, and have learned a lot! Rascal and I have been getting to know each other quite well, but there's still a lot left for us to do. One of those things is for her to learn that sometimes I just need to be the boss, whether it's a time she wants to be on my shoulder and I'm not in the mood for that, or eventually when I need to be able to hold her still to safely clip her wings. Even though there are still some issues, I guess I shouldn't expect to have been any further, given that I am new to owning birds and have only had rascal for 3 weeks now. I really am quite pleased with how far we've come already. Thanks for creating such a wonderful forum!
  9. I recently bought a 10 year old Grey and am still in the process of getting to know her. I have some toys spread around the cage, but she seems to become particularly attached to whatever I hang on the side at the end of one of her perches. She likes to put one foot on the side of the cage, snuggle up to the toy, and sort of droop her wings around it like she's trying to hug it. She's even hopped down from wherever I was sitting with her to walk across the room to the cage to be with this toy a few times. I've tried changing it out a few times but she just loves whatever I put there. Is this kind of attachment normal?
