  1. Well we brought home our 12 year old rehome today. The one that the lady was terrified of.She towelled him and he absouletly went nuts,,...I backed out of the room so he would not associate me with the dirty deed. She put him in a small pet carrier and gave him a few green beans and he kept kngawing at the carrier trying to get out.I loaded his cage and we were off.My wife held him and talked to him in a quiet voice on the way home and he seems to listen.I offered hime a small peice of a chicken nugget that we had had for lunch and he took it through the hole of the carrier but dropped it.We tried again and he nibbled a bit then dropped it.ON the way home I switched on the radio to a low level ..( music) and he seemed interested and then said "Hello"I made a pit stop at walmart and my wife sat with him in the truck. WHen i got back she told me he started whistling and said hello at least a half dozen more times.Once we got him home , unloaded the cage and filled his water and feed dishes I set his carrier in the bottom and opened it.He climbed to the top and started chattering. We gave a bit to take in his surroundings and within 20 minutes he had said hello several more times, barked and howled like a dog and took my wifes finger in his mouth through the cage and flicked his tounge around it. She said he didnt seem to be trying to hurt her just knawing a little bit.He then accepted a sprig of broccoli from me before I went upstairs to get ready for work. When i came down i told him bye as I opened the door and he said "Bye Bye, I love You!" I know he knew how to say this but is it a good thing that hes talking at his new home so quickly ?

  3. Ive been poking around the forums and cant help but notice that people take their birds places with them outside , to work, to the mall even. The birds are ok with this? Are they in a carrier/... they dont get scared and fly away? tell me more...
  4. Ok so ive been gathering info on the net about grey parrot thinking and from the many different prespectives i have found one constant...The only way to truly stop a grey from biting you is to allow him to do it and pretend its not happening and perform said .. earthquake manuvre.....( moving the arm just enough to wobble said bird).Meanwhile not so much as a frown or grimmace from the onslauht of beak to skin contact.LOLOLOLOL. 1. How hard have you all been bitten....? 2. Has anyone lost any digits.....? 3. recieved stiches....? 4.had a vein torn out ? My imagination is running wild because i havnt gotten my bird.Should i just wait till our session is over ( when Im ready to put him down ) and then wipe the blood away Thanks for looking at my rantings.
  5. I appreciate the replies. I think I will get the bird.I shoould have him by the weekend and Ill post some pictures.
  6. I should also add that she says he nails her every chance he gets and will even go as far as to try and trick her in the cage by pretending hes tangled in stuff and then bite her.Does this sound like anything serious?I would really like to give this bird a chance at our home but want whats best for him.
  7. Hello everyone Im brand new to your forums. I may be a grey owner friday depending upon the advice I get here. I tried searching yoru forums for topics on rehome but I didnt find them. i probably just didnt use the right keyword or something.Anyways. I have come across what seems to be a great deal to me on what I hope will turn out to be a nice bird.I found a 12 year old congo grey with cage and hes a talker. The lady who has him now has had hime for 5 years and got hime from the guy who had orinially hand raised him from a baby. She used to clip his wings for the owner and when the owner developed alergies the bird had to go.The bird never made up to her as far as to let her hold him unless by towleing and she thinks it may have been because she was the "dirty deed doer"She says in 5 years she has come down to a realazation that he may never warm up to her and she would rather not see him miserable.I seen the bird ( he is kept in a small room upstairs away from people with a blue and gold and other birds that are cycled in and out of cages so they can each have time out each day.The minute i opened the door he came to the side of teh cage where i was and said "hello" and put his head down for a scratching.I scratched his head and he was ok.Do you think he would be ok coming home to a house with 4 children and put in the living room with us? Advice is desperatly needed. Thanks
