  1. They sound wonderful, Nychsa. LOL, maybe your partner would be interested!
  2. OMG, no wonder your partner is wary of Jiggy. He looks positively dangerous! But seriously, he is georgeous!
  3. Ouch! Sometimes I wonder if there's a "universal bird consciousness" and they all get snippy at the same time
  4. LOL, I want to be a Roost Ruler! But I want my flock to be males!
  5. Joe, I haven't been here long, but I've been here long enough to notice what a valuable contributor you are to this forum, and I think you in turn get a lot of value from your friendships with some of the members. No one who cares about you would want to see you give up your participation and friends here. Please reconsider. KatB
  6. Speaking of bites... I just got the most painful bite yet from Oliver, I'm bleeding as I type, then came to check the posts before going to bed and found this thread. It was my fault, of course. I was preparing to cover Oliver's cage and put him to bed and realized a new toy I had put in there earlier in the day was annoying him, or at least making him nervous, and I decided to remove it for the night. It was hanging from the center top of the cage and when I tried to remove it I found it was a little stubborn coming loose. I did get it loose -- with a bang which startled Oliver and made him lose his balance. As he was climbing back up to his perch I was apologizing to him and reached out to scratch his head. His beak was buried in my thumb before I knew what happened, and he wasn't letting go. I could see it in his eyes -- "I'm going to hold on extra long this time and give it a little extra oomph to make sure you understand you are not to do that again!" Ouch! He held on just long enough for me to wonder what I would do if he didn't let go!
  7. I've seen that before, though I wasn't aware it was from Einstein. And yes, the words are so very true. The mysteries of the universe are everywhere and in everything. So much to wonder at, and so little time!
  8. Congratulations on these baby steps forward, Tracy. It sounds like he'll be stepping up in no time!
  9. danmcq wrote: I agree. I saw a documentary about him some time back and was inspired. I even wrote in my "things to remember" file: "Light is the one true constant, not time" and a few other revelations stemming from it. Expect to see awesome discoveries from me based on that

    Favorite Cereal

Would baby oatmeal cereal (in the box, mixed with water) work?
  11. Thank you for that information on The Gabriel Foundation, Deb. I certainly will look into it.
  12. I have been feeding Oliver Sally Blanchard's "goop" for breakfast for several weeks now, and he loves it. She suggests optionally to add EFA in the form of flaxseed oil. I didn't have it until a couple of days ago, and I added it to the latest batch of goop. Now Oliver won't eat it any longer. It's been two days, and he won't touch the new batch. Did you have trouble getting your guys to eat their oatmeal after you started adding the ground flax?
  13. Hello, mgoertzen5, Welcome. I'm glad you found us and the Welcome room You say Mango has been with you two months and just started to pluck. I wonder if maybe she isn't getting as much attention now as she did when she first arrived and is plucking out of boredom? Especially since she only allows your father to handle her. Or maybe, if she hasn't had any different toys since she arrived, some new and interesting toys will occupy her beak so she doesn't use it on her feathers? I know my bird loves to shred things. Does she have toys she can shred? Then there's the bath question. Does she get a shower a couple of times a week? That's very important to keep her from itching. Just a few thoughts.
  14. Welcome to the Forum, Baillor. We're happy you've joined us!
  15. Welcome, Sara! You've come to the right place for info, stories and just plain good folks. I know you'll enjoy it as much as I do, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you about your grey. Seems like the more I hear about others' greys, the more normal mine seems  Kat
  16. I found this article about the benefits of EFAs on feather-picking. What do you think? http://community.livejournal.com/featherpicking/33122.html
  17. Okay, enough of this. Yes, we are who we are. Whether we post with less than perfect grammar or spelling because we are pressed for time, or we don't know any different, or English is our second language, or whatever, it doesn't matter. I know engineers with advanced degrees and extremely high IQs who can't write a "proper" sentence. It doesn't matter. Yes, it does annoy some people to read less-than-proper sentences. Big deal. It's nothing new. Those people are used to it because I would estimate 75% of the world today writes in "internet slang". Let's just be the happy family we are and laugh and love and accept each other for who we are -- whether we're the grammar police or the OMG LOL Text-Message Kid. How 'bout it? Love to you all, thanks for being you, and Happy Holidays!!!!
  18. Oliver makes a "cluck" noise, sounds like a human clucking his tongue -- does that make sense? Since the only other sound he makes is a "peep", I get really excited when he clucks and appear to repeat it to him, hoping to encourage him to make sounds other than "peep". Today he started making a new sound, similar to a human clearing his throat. I don't know where that came from, but I'm hoping it's another stepping stone towards talking.
  19. I read somewhere that until comparatively recently many grey owners assumed a seed diet was all that was needed so very few AGs made it to their rightful ripe old age. Hopefully now that avian nutrition has been studied and bird owners are more knowledgeable, we'll see more and more "ancient" greys.
  20. Hello, ZeusOwner, Welcome to the Forum!
  21. I know these guys "can" live to be 50. What's the oldest AG you have heard of or have personally met?
  22. I've had Oliver since October 4, so that would be, uh, let's see, just over 2 months  Gee, it seems like much longer (but in a good way!)
