Ha! I finally caught Bella on the cam doing her 'whoopdeedo peakaboo' poetry! :woohoo: http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=43461&CID=239587

Bella eats fresh and has pellets if she wants them, usually she doesn't though. On Sundays I make her fruit salad for the week. I also prepare oatmeal, grits, lentils, or pinto beans - but that stuff into bowls and save it in the fridge to reheat in the morning which she gets with her fruit salad before I go to work. One thing she really enjoys too i vegie pasta (pasta with various crunchy vegies) and tofu meat loaf. <br><br>Post edited by: Nychsa, at: 2008/12/20 15:51

BaxtersMom wrote:  Baxter sounds like a character! How old is he again? I've been away for so long I forgot all the birdy data! I'm trying VERY hard to ensure Bella and I are communicating because she's a handful and she keeps me busy trying to make sure she stays out of trouble! I'm thinking if I can communicate with her, we might just avoid some problems. With her being flighted now, I'm trying to make sure she understands the absolute things she needs to stay away from - like the stove. Even if nothing is going on there, I try to demonstrate a good deal of excitement about the danger if she goes there. Unfortunately I'm getting the impression the more say "no", the more she tries to go for it :S

Greetings Everyone! What kind of experiences have you had communicating with your grey and realizing that they're speaking in context to you? Were you astounded by it? This summer I had my first experience with Bella communicating with me in context and I know it just blew me away. This week we had a new experience that equally astounded me: She is very roudy in the morning - she likes to horse around and pay fight. She liks to sit on my shoulder and nip me in the neck. I don't appreciate that too much, so I usually just give her a finger nudge and say "ouch! sssht no, no, no!". If she continues I make her get off my shoulder and I hold my finger up in front of her and say "no, no, no" and often I say "du, du, du, du" (from German - I used to say that to my kids when they did something wrong  ) Bella stared chanting those things back at the oddest times, so I thought to myself, 'hmm, she's not getting what the words mean'. Well, for the past two days when she started horsing around with me, and I poked her in the belly she said "hey! ouch ouch ouch! no, no, no!!!" and if you even act like you're going to touch her tail, she spins around and says "NO! NO! NO!" I don't know, but I think she getst the words now! Cheers! Terri

I love everything about Bella - her beauty, her brains, but most of all her sense of humor. She clearly enjoys life and makes sure she gives everyone around her a good reason to enjoy life too

judygram wrote:  Thanks for the vote of confidence Judy! yes, she owns everything - could you hear her saying "look, look, look"? That's one of her latest ones too. She cracks me up! I wish I could have captured her whole diatribe with the whoopdeedoo too  I'll keep a ready cam handy!

Yes! I was able to catch her doing a little bit of her poetry! Normally she goes on, and on, and on, but when the cam is on, she likes to watch it, so she tones down her chatter. But... I was able to catch her doing a little bit! http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=46601&CID=239074

BaxtersMom wrote: {Feel-bad-00020080} Oh well.... ! I think I'm going to try to get her to bed now - she's trashed the table pretty well. I'll work on that video and hopefully I can get her doing one of her long recitals! Cheers! Terri

judygram wrote: You've seen them? Do you remember where? We're right about at that point again where Bella has worked through all her toys and is ready for something new  Dang!!!!!! Like my toe right about now!!! What an imp!I dared put my foot on the table just now and she came running over, nipped me in the toe and ran off syaing "ouch, ouch ouch" :S You know, sometimes I wonder what it would be like to pull that bright red tail of hers when she does something like that!!!

judygram wrote: Oy Judy - Bella can be a handful - trust me! She really is like having a human 2 year old around! Now that she's flighted, I'm doing double time keeping her out of trouble  If don't give her something to play with, and keep her busy, she finds things to get into, and that's NOT a good thing! Yesterday while I was picking up her toys and her little play marbles, I tossed them into her toy box and she grabbed them and threw them right back out. She seemed to get a bang out of my tossing those little round things into the box. That made me think it might be interesting to get her one of those birdy basket ball games. Anyone tried those out? I think she'd dig that - to her EVERYTHING is a game- including chasing Jiggy around

luvparrots wrote: It's my pleasure sharing - thank you all for listening! She really blows me away sometimes. People down south in the bird club have been asking for her lineage because they told me she's far more outgoing than what they're used to seeing in greys. When one lady baby sat her, she played with every single toy she was offered without any fuss or inhibition. She really messed around with one of her other sitters, playing peak-a-boo with her all evening rahter than letting her go to bed  So, I'm trying to get information about her parents for them. Since our stuff is still in storage and her leg band is in my jewel box, I can't get it until we move. But I think it would be interesting to see how her siblings evovled, and we might be able to find that out once we get her clutch number. Since she's my frist grey, I have no idea if we're doing something or if she's just an outgoing, gregarious blabber mouth all on her own  Either way, I've got to catch this rhyming - it is just a riot! Cheers! Terri

BaxtersMom wrote: Well, I started looking around in her environment to see if she was picking it up from somewhere. But she's making this stuff up as she goes - it changes all the time, but it always rhymes! Is that bizzarre or what!! I'm going to try to do a stealth video on her, see if I can catch her doing it. She does it mostly first thing in the morning and then at dusk. Jiggy does thruogh his regular conure calls, and Bella starts her poetry recitals

judygram wrote: LOL I'm trying to catch her Judy - but the minute I turn on the cam, she's interested in messing with it, and stops what she's doing. Oh for heaven sakes LOL! She managed to dump all her toys from her toy box over the side of the table and she's standing here whining like the dogs!!!

Greetings everyone, Well, I'm at a loss as to what has gotten into Bella as it relates to her language development. She's 18 months now and she's developed a pretty good vocabulary. But lately she's taken to making things rhyme!! I'm trying to catch her doing it on web cam so I can show you - it's really bizzarre! Have you seen greys do this? Here's and example - she picked up "whoopdeedo" on TV. She learned peak-a-boo from my grand daughter. Now she'll say in this sing song voice "whoopdeedo-a-peak-a-boo whoopdeedooda-peakaboobah"    My grand daughter also taught her the "too-di-tah" song, so Bella would go "too-di-tah, too-di-tah, too-di-tah tah" which is what she learned from Haley (my grand daughter)Now she adds on too-di-boo-ba, peak-a-doo-da ??????? Do parrots knowhow to make ryhmes??? have you heard this before?? It's a riot! She sings it in all different toons, bouncing around on her tippy toes, making faces that just makes me roll!

(((Judy)))) they don't forget! you'll see - tons of love is coming your way I bet!

Carolyn wrote: Ah ha Carolyn! Isn't that the truth! Bella and I have this on going debate about my desk. She watches to see if I'm paying attention, and then sneaks over to nab a piece of paper (she has dozens of things she can shred - my desk is just more interesting!). When I catch her she flies to the chair and pretends she's preoccupied with something else

judygram wrote:  Judy! What can I say - I fell into the grey trap - she took me over slowly but surely! We've got one more move (as far as I know  at the end of this month - we'r in temporary housing right now - and after that I hope things will settle down, and I can chat with friends again and get back to a semi-normal life  Different note - how many have a crazy grey in the morning???? Bella is a psycho bird in the morning She's so wild! She wants to horse around like crazy. She drops herself into my lap and kicks around play biting, she dangles around on my morning robe (which she loves - I can't figure out if it's the color - blue - or the material - silky) and play fights with my robe, she rubs her beak around in my hair, then she sits right on my chest and puts her foot on my mouth    I can't describe it - she's just psycho in the morning! This goes on until she gets her breakfast. I think I might be encouraging it because I play fight back with her, I blow rasberries on her belly, let her dangle from my fingers, roll her over on her back and tickle her belly. But sometimes she gets a little too wild - she ambushed me and knocked the coffee filter out of my hand and I had coffee grinds all over the kitchen I love playing with her, but she's psycho! Is your bird a morning psycho too? If so, do you play around too then?

danmcq wrote:  She does do a formidable bark! My plate and cups are alread totally her business, but I suspect it's not to protect me, but rather to protect what she believes is her portion  Today I tried to have a piece of angel food cake which I dunked in herbal tea. She went so nuts over that I finally just let her have it

Hiya Dan! Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes, I got creamed with contracts - this is a good thing, but it pretty much means you have no life. Moving back to DC after Florida took up a good part of my time too. Now we're moving out of our temporary housing and into a more permanetn place for the next 18 months  Luckily Elmer Fud speak isn't one of my talents  Bella just has issues pronoucing "r's" and "sh". And you're absolutely right - she re-calibrates all the time. She practices "sh" by going "ss" "ss". She has this very unfortunate new annoyance - namely to bite me in the upper arm when she wants to rough house and I'm preoccupied :woohoo: I have these little bruises all over my upper arm. I finally had to scold her and put her in her cage after telling her "no" several times. It hurts!!!! She definately runs the house around here - her non-stop narrative and presence keep everyone on their toes. But what I found particularly sweet was when I got really, really sick - I was down and out pretty hard. She sat at my bed side and refused to leave. Unfortunately when my partner tried to give me water or pills she became quite agreesive and tried to chase him off and bite him. Her loyalty is amazing! Every day I more amazed by this wonderful little feathered being in my life. <br><br>Post edited by: Nychsa, at: 2008/12/12 03:37
