  1. That is so great they get along so well right from the get-go!
  2. Elmo will go in her cage to grab a bite to eat and to get a drink, sometimes to take a quick nap during the day. When I have to put her in her cage when I leave she will ether go to her sleep spot or goes to the food bowl.
  3. There is no need for you to leave the forum. There are a bunch of people on the forum that do not yet have a grey. This is a great place to learn something new, make new friends, and talk about everything birds! Plus, you can never know enough about greys before you get one. I really feel for you...8 times has got to be ruff, but maybe it's for the best and the grey you were MENT to have is right around the corner.
  4. First, if your baby gry was brought up in with a bunch of other birds of different breeds then he probably won't have a problem with the Goffin. The Goffin on the other hand will more than likely have a big problem with the new arrival. First, set them up on different sides of the room and let them get used to the fact that they will be under the same roof. Once it seems that niether one of them are threatened by the other...body lauguage, chatter between the two...and move them closer. If they seem to be ok with one another you can try to have them both, lets say, on the couch together, as long as someone IS in a possition to remove one of the birds or break up a fight. If ether of the birds at any point gets too excited or aggressive then get them away from each other. I would say you can probably aim for one day being able to have them on the same tree stand but don't let them go near the others cage...many birds are very teritorial over their "home".
  5. 17 weeks...he's full grown, fledged and weaned. I love the pic too...about 5 weeks I'm guessing.
  6. I clip Elmo, but right now she is flighted because she is on lockdown in my room right now (new dog in the house) and she in on a harness when she comes out into the rest of the house or outside. When I clip greys I do them different than many other birds. Greys are heavy bodied and many crash land with the standard clip. I like to only clip 5-6 flight feathers and clip them long...I like to leave about an inch or so below the covert feathers so they glide to the floor. The longer clip also keeps the egde of clipped feathers from rubbing their sides so their is much less irritation. I believe you should do what is best for your situation...if clipped is safer than for all means clip them, but if you are able to have a safe enviroment for a flighted bird then leave them flighted. I didn't see the link to the carrier you got but that would fit a grey in it. Most grey's fit in the "in-cabin" airline carriers that are 9in tall.
  7. If I was you I would just start saving a little each week while you are waiting for another grey to pop up. If nothing comes up then you will have enough saved to get a grey from a breeder or store.
  8. OMG!!! I am so sorry...I'm tearing up as I type just thinking about it. I know there is noting I can say to make you feel better, but I do know what you are going through. I lost a 2 week old CAG that I was raising for the store. He was fine when I put him and the rest of the clutch to bed after their feeding, and when I got to check on them he was gone. He wasn't even mine, but I took him under my "wing" as if he was my own and the pain in my heart was earth shattering. I'm glad that you will be getting a necropsy done, because it will give you closure and from experience it will help your heart heal. Again, I cannot say how sorry I am that you lost your grey in such a way but I hope you remember that he had a great home and knew he was loved. I'm sure he will be waiting for you on the other side and you'll be together again one day.
  9. I'm in Ft. Myers...about 2 hours south of Tampa on the Gulf coast. I'll be keeping my ears open for any needy greys and give you any info if I hear of one. I always hate to see people get a parrot only to get ride of it because of time, money, or living situation but in a way it's good because at least they get a shot at a great life with someone else. I just wish people would do the homework into parrot ownership and not just buy on a whim.
  10. Also, don't return the stuff you got for him. You will need it when you do get a grey...don't let this stop you from getting a grey.
  11. What part of FL are you in? I don't know of any greys right now, but at my store from time to time we do get people that give us birds that they can no longer care for and we have gotten a few greys in that way. We normally sell the "pre-owned" birds for $300-$400.
  12. I use a cat carrier for my CAG, and in my job at the pet store those are some of the best carriers to use...easy to get the birds in and out of. Without seeing the carrier I don't know if it will work or not for your new CAG. I would say that I would not bring a harness as a backup to the cage though. A parrot needs to trust you and used to you before you can try to put one on, and I'm sure you don't want bit right off the bat. Plus, not every grey is the same size. Elmo, my CAG, is 385 grams but some can be over 500 grams. I use the Feather Tether harness and she wears a size small even though the Congos are supposed to be a size Med. I would wait to buy one till you have him home and you can see what size fits before you need to use it. Here are a few pics of some good carriers.
  13. LOL, no no no. I imagine that if a vet thought that animals were being niglected they could/would call animal control but in your case you just got him and the wing is an obvious old injury so I'm sure your vet won't be calling anyone on you.
  14. Yeah, you don't need to show proof of ownership to take him to the Vet. I got the same thing as Suzz, just a note. As for DNA, I had Elmo done because if you know the sex of the bird you know that if they are acting egg bound, if it's a male you know that's not the issue and it is something else. It's not something you HAVE to do, but it is kinda nice to know.B) Now, the broken wing. I don't think there is anything you can do to the past owner because the wing is healed. I think the injury has to be "fresh" to have a case against them. The only reason I could see an amputation being on the table is if the wing was infected or so badly crushed that there is no hope of repair. Niether of which would apply to you bird. If the wing is functional (he's flapping it) then I can't see the vet wanting to re-break it ether.
  15. I LOVE the second one where the grey chewed through the funnies. I would like to know who's greys those are myself
  16. Yeah, Elmo molted really hard around a year. She is now a year and a half and is molting again. Back feathers and flights mainly.
  17. LOL...this reminds me of 3 of the Amazons at my work. All of them had the SAME feather ether broken or was out of place for a few days. It was so funny looking we were all saying it was their "gang sign" or something! Now if it ment they were in the Crips or the Bloods we still don't know!:woohoo: :silly: :pinch:
  18. You sure Dan...? Mmmm Mmmm Mmmmmmmm, TUNA!
  19. I signed. I can't believe some of the stuff on there.
  20. White Face are my favorite kind of Cockatiel! They always seem to be sweeter than the other mutations...but that might be because the cashier at my work always spoils them. You HAVE the get the "shake and bake, play for keeps" dance on video...I gotta see it!!!
  21. Yellow Crowns are great birds. I think they are one of the best of the Amazons. Tell us a little more about him...where you got him, his history, how old he is...that kinda stuff.B)
  22. No problem, and Karma back at ya'. Let us know how things go at the vet...I'm interested in hearing the results.
  23. {Feel-good-0002006E} Only bird people will talk about love and barf in the same sentance! Elmo sometimes will gurg for his toys! He must REALLY like his cat toy balls!
