  1. Wow connie she is gorgeous, im green with envy, congratulations on your goldie
  2. Sounds as if you have a great eater there, you are fortunate that he eats a variety of food. His diet is nice & balanced, if he eats the veg last offer that to him in the morning & leave the fruit out for later, greys in general have a big feed in the morning & again another big feed to fill their crop before bed.
  3. BMustee thanks for the update regarding Alex. Kat the oldest grey i know is about 26 & belongs to my friend
  4. As the others have said 9 weeks is very young for a grey to be weaned,if it was me i would leave your grey for a few more weeks to make sure everything is ok.
  5. spookyhurst im angry that someone took karma from you, your post was informative & posted in good faith,it annoys me that members remove karma, i think they should at least have the courage to send a PM & explain why they did it.Karma right back at you
  6. Judy he has never been handled so that is going to be a long process,he is scared of hands/arms etc.. i have started holding a wooden perch in my hand while i chat away to him to get him familiar with one, ideally in time my goal will be that he may step up on the perch, but little by little, he is growing in confidence day by day
  7. Hi Kat he sure is becoming braver by the hour ! last night he flew from the top of his cage up on to the curtain rail He decided to saty there till 1 o/clock this morning, so guess where i slept ? on the sofa
  8. gosh you guys, I'm honoured to have you all as my friends & if i had one wish it would be to meet you all in person, with all this love & support little soldier is a very lucky grey {Love-0002012D} all x
  9. HilaryQ Wow we do love babies here We love to follow the progress of our members on their journey from choosing a baby till the day he comes home
  10. Kat they kind of drop their wings & mutter/ mumble & stretch their necks as they bop & up & down trying to bring food back up
  11. OK Judy, i have a picture for you it;s not to good as my daughters photography skills leave a lot to be desired !! Soldier has amazed me in just 48 hours,he has spent 2 weeks with my friend sitting in one spot & not moving, i have been sitting chatting to him since Saturday & last night he thought he would be very brave & climbed on to the java branch i attached to the side of his cage You can see the fear in his eyes but he has since chilled out & has been grinding his beak.
  12. spookyhurst a great name & not far off what i have choose, Indy's new name is Soldier He is a little trooper & he is mummys little soldier He is a darling & a brave boy.
  13. {Feel-bad-0002006A} A very sad story but fortunately this one had a happy ending As Tari said so much of this goes on, the sooner people realize that birds have feelings & emotions & are not trophies to be displayed like prized possessions. There are many idiots in this world
  14. Hi Kerri, as judygram & BMustee have said the red feathers indicates the red factor in a grey.My newest addition has red feathers on his legs, Here is a link about colour mutations http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/35360-color-mutations.html#38384
  15. Hi here is a good link so you can see what types of cages our members have http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/11611-post-pictures-of-your-cage.html
  16. Yes i have two hand reared greys that i purchased from a breeder, i then re homed a grey & just this Saturday i re homed a rescue grey .The majority of rescue birds will come with baggage attached & it takes someone special to take them on, you need plenty of time & patience, progress is often a slow, but it is definitely rewarding taking on a rescue grey.If you dont think you can go down this road or have the experience i would advise you to get a handreared grey.
  17. coff73ee Hi & ,i look forward to hearing more about your katie & of course the other too
  18. I have researched every book i own & viewed many sites on the internet, i am unable to find any information that suggests grape skins are toxic .Out of all the greys i know they all eat the seeds & flesh & discard the skin. I know that grape seeds contain antioxidants that have shown some effectivness in treating feather plucking. To air on the side of caution always wash the grape skin & if you are unsure whether to feed or not peel the skin
  19. Hi Neildw I'm in agreement with the other members, a vet check is what is needed here, please keep us informed on things.
  20. Terri it sounds to me as if you have a wonderful relationship with your grey, you carry on the way you are going,You have a content & happy bird there Just make sure you are always the boss in the relationship
  21. Kibibi A treat bowl sounds a good idea, i might just have to give that one a try
  22. Nychsa Thank you for your wonderful offer of help, Im touched. I know taking this sweetheart will be an additional mouth to feed but financially that's not an issue for me , my greys are insured for big medical bills if the need ever arises,My greys are my life & mean the world to me & fortunately i have a wonderful husband who allows to me to do what i love & as my name says, lovemygreys is what i do best if i ever doubted the human race you have just restored my faith,I am so proud to share my friendship with you & some special members on this forum.God bless you.
  23. You sound as if you have made great progress already, patience & time as the other members have said is the biggest factor.Continue to go at Bobby's pace & never push things. You have achieved a lot in 8 months, if you progress further then that's great but if this is as good as it gets then be proud of what you have achieved & don't be disheartened.Love & enjoy Bobby & im sure in his own way it is returned. Do you have sandy perches etc.. for his nails to wear down ? if there not curling over then you can delay a nail clip for a while. here is a link regarding the towel to give you an idea. http://www.featheredfamily.com/toweling.htm
