1. As most (ok some) of you know, while I have done all my homework etc. I will not be able to get a Grey for another 2 years (or after I am married) this is because living at home there are several issuse regarding getting a Grey. The first is the fact that my parents own a bird dog. We aren't worried for the bird's saftey nearly as much as to dog's sanity. Having the bird in the house might very well drive my dog insane. I have two guinea pigs that live in my room (the back room) and when they get squeaking loud she sits outside my door for hours. Another key problem would have to be that my mom flat hates birds. She thinks they are discusting and that something in their poop is toxic to humans etc. I would have to re-arrange my furnature to be able to accomidate a cage and such. Also I worry because the bird would (as said above be in a back room because that is where my room is) I am only home a few hours out of the day due to school, work, and being with my fiance. I don't think it would have enough interaction time. Any ideas?
2. I am planning on trying to do like it suggests about play gym training. That sounds more natural to me than a cage all day. You just have a 'roost' cage for them to sleep in at night then they stay on the play stand all day.
3. I have been doing alot of research on this topic and I've noticed that of all the brands and such I've heard of a man named Wayne keeps popping up. I found the website and I for one am conviced. So with an open mind I offer you a link. Please tell me what you think: http://www.bottlebrushstuff.com/why_bottlebrush.htm
4. If I were to go outside and cut some branches off a tree to make a play stand do I need treat the wood some way before a bird could play on it? Also are there certain types of trees that the wood is toxic?
5. lol Wow sorry my thread is such a problem!!

8. Very Cute! Thanks for the speedy reply. Sounds like Nikko is quite the little shredder!
9. Who doesn't like to talk about their pampered birdie right? Here are some fun questions that I am just kinda wondering about everyone on the fourm as a whole. Feel free to answer as few or as many as you like. I am just curious about you all and your wonderful babies! What are his/her favorite toys? What is his/her most hated toy? How large is your birdie's cage? What does your birdie's cage look like? Where'd you get your cage? Does your bird have a favorite perch and if so what kind? What kind of play stand do you have(pictures are a plus)? How many play stands do you have? Whats your birds favorite activity to do with you(cleaning, cooking etc)? Where'd you get your bird? Is your Grey afraid of any strange things? What's your bird's favorite game? What is your bird's favorite and least favorite food? What is your bird's favorite treat? Is your bird clipped? What is your birds newest (or favorite) phrase? Does your bird know any fun tricks? How many hours a day do you normally spend with your Grey? How did you choose to name your Grey? Is your bird DNA sexed? Do you have fun stories about your Grey? Feel free to answer all or some. Pictures of your birdies toys and cage are ++++!!! Thanks so much!

Post edited by: RobertsKitty, at: 2007/08/28 03:26
10. I saw it Tari and that is actually what made me think of the coroplast. Just be careful with the wood. It will retain moisture if not properly treated and I don't know if a waterproof treatment is safe for birds.
11. There is a material known as Coroplast (also known as corrugated plastic). I was wondering if it is safe for use around birds. If it is safe for bird use you can score it with a knife and fold it into a large box type shape to go under a playpen(probably will be homemade) as a poo guard. I actually use it as the pan in my guinea pig cage and I can just take it outside and spray it off and it works AMAZING. If its safe, in my area coroplast sheets sell an 4 foot by 7 foot sheet for around $11. It is water proof and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Anyway, here is a link to the information about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrugated_plastic
12. Thankies for the info Judy and lovie!!!
13. I know what you mean. Glad to know I'm not the only one with such concerns!
14. Thankies judy! One quick question. Lets say you have your Grey on a general schedule of when feeding and play time and the like and for whatever reason your schedule changes entirely(new job shift exc) whats the best way to change your Grey's routine with the least amount of stress?
15. Really? Where can I buy such a thing? {Emotions-00020073} I don't see it! lol
16. Ok because I'm going to teach my bird to do things like put the coin in the bank and such but I wanted to know before I used real coins!
17. Does anyone know is there any health risk in birds picking up money such as dimes, quarters, nickels exc? I just don't know if they have levels of metal toxic to birds...
18. You make good points lovie. I would love a bird that is like your Sun Conure. I am sure that when it all comes down to it, I will decide based on the bird itself and the breeders opinions. After that I will do the clipping myself . Thanks again for your help everyone!
19. I really just want a clip that will prevent gaining height during flight. I would love to have a flighted bird...
20. If you do a very slight cut on the wings (about an inch of the first 4 flight feathers) about how much flight would that allow?
21. Wonderful! Thanks for your help Dan!
