Thank you all for our good ideas. I may resort to the bird net. Dan is out there 2 hours now. Jake wants to come down, but too high for a net. All we can do is wait, and keep calling him. He does seem afraid to fly down. Only prayers will help us now. He's just too high to reach. Can't climb the tree, its too small limb wise. Thought about calling the fire dept. Hahaha, that would be a bad mistake.............desperate. Kim

We have been doing this for 2 hours now. Found him about 6 a.m. Got within 10 feet, and he flew off again. Now no noises coming from Jake. About 7:30 a.m. we found him again. Dan is trying to call him out of the neighbor tree. This has become a block thing now. All the neighbors were looking for Jake. Now that we have found him, they are happy and waiting to hear of a happy outcome. We will be sure to let them know when Jake comes home. Dan & I both were sure he died in the 109 heat yeaterday. We felt like, Jake would have lived for 30 years if it weren't for us. Now we have sentenced him to a sure death. We both were heart broken. The happiness inside when we found him this morning was overwhelming. We will keep you posted. Kim

We found Jake. We are trying to get him to come down. We took his cage out there, and he wants to come down. He is just scared. Any suggestions?

Congrats to my honey, my cuppie-cake! Now you all know why I love him, and why we have been married for 36 1/2 years. I thank you all for your kind words, which I can tell are very sincere. Bless all who come to this place. Kim

Peanut butter??? I love peanut butter. I wouldn't have thought of this. We ALWAYS have chunky peanut butter. I'll try it. I mean I'll give it to Dayo, not that "I" will try it. {Feel-good-0002006E}

Judy, You Go Girl!! {Nature-00020085} Please post picture. Kim -
Hi Mandi, So sorry you have hurt yourself again. I know how you feel. Though my experience was not as serious as yours, I re-injured a break the same day the cast came off. The next day the doctor could not believe I was back for another cast. First time I broke two bones. The second time I broke those same two, plus another bone. I sure felt stupid. I am wondering if you re-injured the same leg or is it the other leg, hip? Get better very soon and we will all be here waiting to hear how you are doing. Kim

Some of the baby Greys at our breeder have this redfactor. She told us this can disappear when they molt. But it can remain as well. She indicated its a gene that causes this. The baby she has with the RF had it all over. Underbelly, 3 stripes down the back, and legs. She is a female. Question: Are the Greys with the RF more female than male?? I think Cesar is a male, however, my experience has only been with female Greys. Does anyone know about this? Kim

Hi Sara, and welcome. Dan already expressed my feelings, I ditto that. (Dan is my husband) You'll enjoy it here. We get our Grey Saturday. (we hope) We are excited. So we know how you feel. Congrats!!!

Hi Tatee, How are things going today with your new bird? Are you starting to feel a little mors comfortable? Kim
-
Tatee, read "Independent Time" Good night now!
-
Tatee, you did EXCELLENT! You have already taken her to the vet. You are right about the eyes. Black eyes mean she is under 1 year old. So she is over a year, and I agree with your vet, she isn't too old because she is as you said, "Snugly" Training is fairly easy for the shoulder sitting. Just gently remove her from your shoulder when she sits there. Keep doing that and say a gentle "no" She is smart, and she will get it very soon. You can leave her out for family time. However, I suggest you read the post on cage time. I forgot what it was titled. Something about time alone?? It is also in the African Grey folder. Keep up the good work. You are off to a great start. Are you going to keep her? P.S. your right about running an ad in the paper. BOO on that!
-
Is the bird sick, cold in good health? Just lost? Can you give more info on how you found her, and what kind of condition she is in? Kim
-
Did she come to you from the outdoors?? Lost?? You could run an add in the paper?? There is a great deal of info here. If I read you correctly, you need assistance right away with daily feed and care of the Grey. Is that correct?? We have lots of experienced owners here. Lets see if we can help you. By the way, Congratulations on you being adopted. Kim
-
Well, I just read how you got him home. Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you. Kim
-
I'm so happy you have him back. I'd like to know how you got him to come back. Can you share a little with us?? Kim

Beccy, I love the lily idea. I can picture it. It will look so great. Fairy, aww, don't cry. I only share my experience to explain my tattoo. It's all in the past now. No tears anymore. :cheer: Kim -
It was just so cute when Dayo came running after me when I returned form my errand. I was very surprised, and of course, I dropped all my things to greet him right back an enthusiastically as he greeted me. It was a very nice feeling. I miss him. Kim {Feel-bad-0002006A}

Beccy & Josh, Nice tattoos. I like them both. I like the talons coming out of the arm. That is way KOOL. Will you post a picture of "your" tattoo when you have it? I would like to see your version of this tattoo. Thanks Josh. Beccy, how did you chose your tattoo? I think it's very feminine. Very nice. Kim -
Judy, GREAT PICTURE. {Feel-good-000200BB} Kim

New to the site, getting our first grey soon
DayosMom replied to MrC's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi MrC, welcome to our family. That is such a sad experience you saw at the pet shop. A lot of the shops don't care, or have the knowledge of the bigger birds. Monique's list is a very good way to evaluate a breeder. Excellent info for you to use as a guide. We were lucky and found a breeder in our home town that is very good. Here is their website. www.sncparrotdise.com They will ship, and from what I have seen, they are very responsible breeders. Very caring. They have about 30 birds, but no Greys. They get the Greys from a person who has a pair, and they raise them for them, and also sell them. They are very good people. Maybe they can help you. We might get our Dayo in one more week. We have been visiting Dayo for about 6 weeks now, and the last 2 weekends we have brought him to our home for the day. I wish you good experiences in searching for your Grey! Kim -
Welcome Robert. So nice to have you here. We look forward to pictures and getting to know you better. Can't wait to see your Grey. Kim
-
Hi Nooney, and welcome to the forum. I also thought your bird was try to communicate with you, or showing affection to you. Our Grey does this too, but not hard as you have described here. It is a form of communicating, and Ian's suggestions are very appropriate. I hope they will help you with this little issue. It does hurt when they beak a little bit too hard. We look forward to seeing your Grey. We may get our Grey, Dayo, this next coming weekend. I'm very excited. We've had him home the last two weekends and it was so fun. Yesterday I had to go out to run an errand and when I returned, Dayo ran across the room to me when he saw me. It was so cute. He came running. Like a small child does when their mommy come back from being gone. It gave me such a nice feeling to be greeted this way bu Dayo. I look forward to hearing many experiences from your new addition.
