  1. New pictures! She is really starting to get her feathers in. The pics were much better this time. In focus and nicely positioned
  2. How do you offer a paperback book typically? Does anyone ever drill a hole and hang one from a stainless chain or rope? We have many old paperbacks that could be used as shredding toys.
  3. Happy Monday! I got the new pictures of the baby. We have decided to name her Zoe. Let me know what you think!
  4. When I was at a birdshop today I saw a bunch of large perches for the resident Macaw that were made from 4x4 cedar. They had taken a vertical post and put a galvanized deck fastener to attach another one horizontally and did that a couple of times to create a pretty nice looking perch with a couple of levels to walk on. I thought that cedar was a wood to avoid with chewing parrots. The ends of the horizontal perches were chewed up pretty good so obviously that was their purpose. Does anyone else use kiln dried red cedar timbers for perches or other parrot related items/construction? If this is acceptable wood for parrots it would make my aviary plan much simpler.
  5. As promised, here are the weekly pictures! I can already see changes in her in just a weeks time. I like the name suggestions so far!
  6. My wife is insisting on waiting until we meet her to pick a name but Penelope was one on my list already.
  7. No name yet but we did get the DNA results and the one in the pictures is a little girl! They have a boy and a girl and it worked out that the older one hatched on 02/06/15 is the girl.
  8. And the pics will be here every Tuesday! Thanks
  9. Thanks! Really looking forward to picking up some toys and other items in the next few weeks.
  10. We have a baby coming in a couple of months! We will get her in April so we have some time to get everything ready. I am hoping for a female but will know what they are in another week when the DNA results come back. Super excited!! After doing much research I decided on a Timneh. They are more difficult to find but we got lucky and found a great breeder a few hours away. I received the first pictures yesterday and will get new pictures each monday until we go and pick up the baby.
  11. Great thread! We dont even have a Grey yet and I want to build an aviary, lol
  12. Thanks for all the responses and the good advice! I will take all that into account when we decide to get one. I am in no rush and would rather get one from a trusted breeder than take my chances.
  13. He everyone! I joined this forum in preparation for getting an African Grey. There is some great information here and I have really enjoyed reading the personal accounts of people interacting with their birds. I am trying to learn as much as I can about the care requirements before getting one. On that topic, there is a show coming to the Dallas area in April and I wanted to know if getting a baby Grey at a show/expo was a good idea or something to be avoided. If anyone has a recommendation for me and my wife to purchase a baby Grey in the Dallas area please let me know. I am excited to get one but do not want to rush it and we are still working out how it would all fit into our daily routine and budget. Thanks!
