Hello Andrew and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you plan to get. You have certainly came to the right place to learn all you can before you get that bird, we have loads of information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. There are also lots of book out there on greys, I can recommend one that is my favorite, "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker, it is packed with good info.

Wow Berna, you do have a good job don't you, getting to work with all those species of birds and get to take them home with you, I am so envious;) You better get some pictures to share with us:P
-
Wow Stephanie, I'm glad you came thru Ike ok and that you soon have power but you really miss it when it is out, we take it for granted when we have it. Poor birdies came home and then had to evacuate away from the storm but they will settle down and get back to normal soon, keep us posted.

Carolyn, that is gorgeous and I would have hung it immediately too, your hubby is a good man, thanks for sharing it with us:) B)

Hello Smaryan and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey baby, Lucy. It takes time for a new grey to settle in and feel comfortable in her new home and you and your husband should share duties with your grey even though you are her favorite or the one she would rather be with. She will more than likely bond with you but she can still have a good relationship with your hubby. Some greys take more time to get comfortable in a new home so give here plenty of time and be very patient with her, maybe your husband can be the one to give her treats to help her be more receptive to him. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Lucy you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

Hello Ina and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Charlie. I have no doubt that you love Charlie very much as do all of us, they are a part of our family, just like one of our own children, we couldn’t love them any less. Even though we love hearing about Charlie we like to learn a little more about our members so we can get to know you better and make friends. We like nothing better than to chat with each other about our birds and see what antics each has been up to. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Charlie you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Well congrats Miss Kitty on the appearance of an egg from Precious, I know I face the same possibility when Josey gets old enough. It is important to provide her with calcium and Tracy has provided some excellent sources.

Hello Marie and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey. I am so happy you could finally realize your dream of owning a grey but I think you will soon find out that they own us, really, we are their slaves if you get my meaning but we don’t mind in the least, they are amazing creatures and make life so much more enjoyable. Do you have any other birds or parrots at this time? You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of George you would like to share with us we would love to see him. Congrats on becoming a greyt mom.

I am so sorry to hear of Alfie's passing, I knew he was not the same after you went on vacation but please don't berate yourself, it was not your fault and he is now over the Rainbow Bridge and you will see him again one day. I know the ache you feel inside is hard to deal with but think of him not suffering anymore and we will help you in any way we can to get thru this dark period in your life. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you may be comforted by the memories of his love for you.

I would love to see some pictures of her/him if you want to share some with us.

I am always saying "It's ok" It's ok" to Josey anytime something scares her but she has yet to repeat it.

Spike has certainly been thru the wringer but at least you can see some light at the end of the tunnel, the poor little thing, I know this has you upset but hang in there and you and Spike will get thru this and he will be back home with you and feeling much better. I will keep Spike in my thoughts and prayers for a swift recovery.

Hello Shelly and welcome to the family, so glad you have decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Sara. Being a former breeder you certainly do have quite a lot of experience so I won't direct you to read thru the many threads because you are probably full of information and could tell us a few things we don't know about greys. One thing you will find in the threads though is lots of stories about our feathered friends, many are funny and endearing and a few are sad and of heartache but they are a good read so help yourself. I will certainly check out your website and I do appreciate you giving the members a discount on regular merchandise, every bit helps nowadays as we scrape the bottom of the barrel for every penny we can save. Please feel free to share some pictures of your flock especially Sara with us as we would love to see them.

Spence, I use the plain oatmeal as the instant packets contain added sugars but you can add cinnamon or other spices to it if you like. As far as the baby food I stick with vegetable ones like sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash, peas or green beans or you can use the fruit ones also. Watch out for anything that has sugar added.
-
Grapes are a favorite of greys too, I would suggest you cut them up into several pieces so he has just a small bite for a reward, that way one grape will go a long way and since grapes do not have much nutritional value you don't want to fill him up with them.
-
Sometimes they will spook for no apparent reason, my sun conure especially will do this but a sudden noise or movement can make them do what comes naturally, try to fly away from it. Some greys will stress out from visits to the vet and some take it in stride.
-
Josey is the same way Suzanne, she will do anything for a piece of cheese, I guess you could cut a small piece into very small pieces to use for training but not too often. A lot of the members say their greys love almonds and pine nuts but Josey could care less about them.
-
I can answer that one, you can get it from www.swansonvitamins.com you get a jar for about $6 and I give Josey about 1/4 teaspoon in some warm food such as oatmeal, baby food or mashed veggies and give it every day.
-
What does your grey like the most is what you use for rewards for training, some like peanuts, almonds, pine nuts or any other food that they like a lot, just use a small amount at a time, chop nuts into smaller pieces and keep the training sessions short and make them fun.
-
Wait a while and try it again but maybe you have not found the right treat he would do anything for to get, thats half the battle there. What is the name of or author of the dvds you got?
-
Stephanie, I am so glad to hear you have your flock back and it is going along nicely and thanks for letting us know and I look forward to seeing some pics when you get the chance to post them. B)

Nims, most any fruit they can have they can also have the juice of, my birds enjoy orange, apple, grape and other juices. I don't put theirs in a bowl, I put some in a small cup and let them drink what they want of it, they love sticking their beaks in and lifting their head and let it slide down the throat, hmmm yummy.
