  1. No tiptoeing around here, fids don't get up until I uncover them even on the weekends when I sleep in.
  2. Sometimes things appear worse than they really are as in Piper's case, I hope it gets to looking better and he feels better real soon.
  3. Very true Karen, they can take on the color of what they are eating including purple as Josey's will be when she eats fresh beets.
  4. My local grocery store has those small ones for 99 cents, I am going to get one for Josey and see if she will tear it up or even eat some.
  5. Hello Jovan and welcome to our family. Thanks for including a couple of pics of Poly in your intro post and he/she looks very lovely, do you know the sex of your bird? Why don't you tell us more about yourself and Poly so we can get to know you two better.
  6. Its good to hear Echo is acting more normal now but the copycat screaming is to be expected but hopefully it will soon be replaced by a more pleasant noise.
  7. Poor little fella, he has been thru a lot and it is hurting you more for you want to help him get thru this, hopefully he will be better when you get home but I do see another vet visit is in his immediate future.
  8. That looks painful, poor little fella and I hope it gets cleared up soon.
  9. Congrats on his first flight, there will be no stopping him now.
  10. Cockatoos can be very loud but yes most are cuddly, they don't call them Velcro birds for nothing, I would think long and hard about taking in a too, research and gather as much information as you can before you make that decision. I can't tell what kind of plant that is but you should find out if it is a safe one for him to be eating or tearing up, some houseplants are toxic to birds. Simba is a cutie for a dog and its so good they get along but still supervision is needed when they are out together.
  11. Miss Gilgirl is turning into the grey of your dreams, I am still amazed at the progress you have made with her and you are to be commended for your patience and perseverance in working with her to get her where she is today and who knows what the future will bring, good things I am sure.
  12. No cable here as I live in the country so its satellite and don't usually have much problem except when it rains heavy then we may lose the signal for a bit but customer service as a whole leaves a lot to be desired these days and don't get me started on automated phone menus, I hate having to press a number for English and I want to talk to a human preferably one I can understand which is hard to come by these days. Josey doesn't say very many curse words and I have never heard her drop the f-word though she hears it from time to time from hubby, I think the worse she has spoken is bird turd and that is all my fault, guilty as charged. The best thing to do when they do utter foul language is to ignore it, I know its hard to do sometimes but if they get a reaction out of doing it then its just encouragement for more.
  13. Sometimes I think they are smarter than we are.
  14. Yes Sarah they could especially if they play hard as some do or it could happen if they were spooked and they flapped around in their cage. I do hope you will consider allowing Keira's wings to grow out and leave her flighted for they are a more confident bird when they are allowed the freedom of flight. All three of my birds are flighted though only one flies regularly every day, the other two were initially clipped then I allowed them to grow out and they only fly when spooked or at as a last resort.
  15. I have to say that Smokey looks adorable in his sock buddy and the blue color suits him perfectly, here is hoping it does the trick.
  16. I have a friend in our bird club who has a M2 who has a plucking and mutilating problem and she makes her own sock buddies for her bird, she uses a particular kind of sock and modifies it to fit and when her bird chews it up she replaces it with another one.
  17. Yes what a difference a year can make and it shows, we have always preached taking your time and using much patience when dealing with greys especially rehomed ones, a relationship cannot be rushed for to get them to trust us it takes hours, days, weeks, months and sometimes even years to gain that trust but its worth it as you now know. Does the rest of the family have any interest in becoming friends with Motu? They should stay a distance away so he does not growl and talk to him, maybe offer him a treat, he may never come to allow them to touch him but they can still interact with him and maybe one day he won't be growling at them either. Greys do tend to pick favorites, my grey prefers me but she is allowing my hubby to interact more with her than she used to, it just takes time and the important thing is not to force themselves on him, let him come to them in his own time on his terms. One thing I want to mention is the cage he is in seems small to me, too small for a Cag, it would be so much better for him if he had a bigger cage that he could open his wings and flap without touching the sides, its important they have enough room to play and reside in when they do spend time in them.
  18. Some greys can be territorial about their cages so its best to allow them to come out on their own and then most will step up if asked from the outside of their cage.
  19. He knew when he had enough and much to your delight, Echo is growing up.
  20. I think I will stick with the fids I have though yours must be lots of fun if you can stand the noise, everyone who contemplates getting a large parrot should listen to this before making a decision as it is an ear opener but my those two were having the time of their lives getting into that drawer.
  21. Well it was good news for Talon but not so for Piper, poor little fella but I think you have made the best choice because he does love to come out of his cage, you are a good mama to do what it takes to protect him from further harm and I hope he gets to feeling better real soon.
  22. Cricket has gotten used to you being around a lot and this is hard for her but it will come to an end soon enough, poor dear I can imagine how she must feel. I was recently gone for nearly 2 weeks and my sun conure would not come out of her cage the whole time I was gone, my hubby was taking care of my fids in my absence and Josey and Gypsy came out of their cages but not Sunny but she sure did when I got home. Looking forward to those video clips you promised.
  23. Hello Magnus and welcome to our family. You were given some good advice to come here and join our family, we are a community of grey lovers and we have many members who have vast experience in living with these awesome creatures so if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask but I have several for you.
