  1. Hi Dave, I did not mean incubate in the true sense. I meant keeping Charlie warm while he was so young and almost bald. Charlie is doing very well in his little cage. He really enjoys talking to rascal my 18 year old grey and sounds as though he is truely trying to make conversation in his little bird way. I will try and get some pictures and a video if possible for you to see and hear soon. My son will help me download them for you. I have pictutes and video of Charlie from the day we got him and I am sure you will also be very proud of him.
  2. Rascal was 6 months old already when she came home so was already doing everything on her own. Rascal also only goes to me and now and then visits my son Mark when he will walk over to Mark and sit on his lap for a while. She went to him happly after laying her first egg than changed again. Rascal is very loving with me and makes her feelings known by rubbing her beek on my face and making puppy sounds. She also tries to feed me which I try and avoid but she can very addimant at times. Rascal & Charlie had a full on conversation this morning with rascal calling Charlie and Charlie responding with little bird sounds. Charlie also has a lovely time scratching in the saw dust like a chicken scratching for food. Very funny to watch but not such fun cleaning up the saw dust. Charlie now has a full head of feathers and they even stand up when he fluffs himself. His wing feathers are covering his back now and he has quite a nice wing span when he stretches out. I must say hand rearing Charlie has been quite an exciting journey as I have never seen a tiny baby develope from such a young age and I am in absolute awe.
  3. Hi Dave, No not an icubator persay but I have been keeping the temperature between 30 & 35 degrees. I have now put Charlie in his own little cage and he is loving it. He is near my 18 year old grey rascal and they have been chatting. Charlie is getting his feathers nicely and his little tail is growing daily. I cannot believe how big he is getting so fast. I take pictures daily to keep up with him. He has toys in his cage a giraffe and a bear which he snuggles up to to sleep. He also loves to scratch in his saw dust which he spreads all over the place. He is also not so jumpy now he is in his cage and watches the comings and goings of the house hold. He also puts in his two cents every now abd then when rascal talks to him. Charlie is of coarse very very tame and loves to be stroked & scratched. He has a specal place just below his eye into his neck that he particularly loves. He even closes his eyes when I scratch him there. He also enjioys his spong bath after his feeds - he makes little coeing sounds. I am so extatic at Charlies progress as I know what a big responsibility it was and how slim my chances were at getting it all right. I still however take ever precaution with his feeds and keeping everything sterile and his living quarters very clean. All in all he seems to be a happy little thing.
  4. Hi Dave no I mean that I keep Charlie warm. He was a little pink thing with hardly any feathers but I am happy to say is looking more & more like the beautiful bird he is going to be. I have put him in a smaller cage in his box that he knows and he is loving it. My older grey Rascal talks to him and he seems to enjoy the company. I am so plesed to report that Charlie is thriving. I know I have a long way to go yet and will be totally relying on the expertise of the grey forum to help me through the difficult times ahead. Charlie is responding to all the love and attention he is getting and even talks to us by making little puppy sounds. He loves being cleaned after his feed and is very inquisitive. Thanks again for all the support and encouragement.
  5. Thank you very much for all your interest shown in Charlie. I have moved Charlie into a smal cage in his box so he is safe and he can see out and get used to his new suroundings. I will make sure that he is comfy and is put to bed in his warm spot at night. You guys are the greatest!!
  6. Dear Dave, The babies are just wonderful and my hat off to you as I am having enough of a time trying to rear one baby grey. Your advise as to the incubation period would be so greatly appreciated. Charlie is now 6 weeks old and developing so fast. I see a daily change in his wing feathers as well as his little stubby tail feathers. He now weights 490g and starting to get really inquisitive and staying awake longer between feeds. I spend as much quality time as possible with Charlie who seems to be loving it. I am still maintaining the 30-35 degrees temperature at present in the brooder. When can I introduce him to the outstide world? Many Thanks Jeni
  7. Hi Nancy I rescued Charlie from a pet shop at 4 weeks old and have been hand rearing him. He is now 6 weeks old and doing extreemly well thanks to all the wonderful help and advise from the grey family. I have looked on all the discussions but cannot find any info regarding the issue of the incubation period other than a 7/8 week referrence of a trnasfer to a cage, which I am thinking may mean that Charlie will have to stay incubated until that time? Thanks Jeni
  8. My baby grey is now 6 weekd old & is still incubated at 32 Degrees. He is much more alert now nad stays awake longer between feeds. Curiosity is high and he likes to see the woeld around him but I do not want to take him out of the incubator too early.
  9. Rascal & Charlie are both CAG. Charlie is now weighing 388g and I am so proud of him. I saw a 4 month old african grey at the pet shop yesterday and I was amazed at the development by 4 months. Now I know what Charlie is going to look like. The transformation is so quick and their inteligance shines through even at Charlies young age. I am feeling so much better now that Charlie is not quite so fragile. He is holding onto my finger and sits on my hand unaided. A bit flappy but doing extreemly well. I will send some pics as soon as I have them down loaded. Rascal continues to show an interest in the little guy but have not put them too close to each other to date. Rascal is no loger fluffing up when Charlie is near her.
  10. I have an 18 year old african grey Rascal who for the first time has laid three eggs. Wow what a suprise as we thought she was a he. Rascal is not too happy about the new baby Charlie at the moment but hope they can become friends. Rascal calls my three cats by name and says hello when we get home or if anyone pops in to visit. She says bye to us in the morning when we leave for work and asks if we want coffee when she hears the kettle boiling. She aslo asks for apple which she loves!! Rascal also calls my son Mark in my voice which gets Mark every time as he comes to asks what I need or calls Yes mom. She also calls me mom and dances to her favorite music with the words boogie woogie and makes a finger clicking sound. We are also not allowed to have a meal without a treat for her as she says want some when I am dishing up. Rascal said hello Charlie this morning and I have only had Charlie a week. They are the most amazing birds as they dont just mimic things they hear but associate sounds with things like the kettle boiling. She does not make a cat sound but calls the cat by name when they meow. The possibilities are endless They thrive on love an attention and beeing near you. Rascal and I talk all day.
  11. Hi there everyone. I got my 4 week old baby grey by rescuing him from a pet shop. I had no intention of getting a bird at such a young age but here I am. I am now doing my best to ensure Charlies survival. He is doing great taking his feeds well and I can acctually see changes in him daily. Charlie has developed so fast in the week that I have had the privilage to have him. There is noticable change in his size, as well as the growth of the feathers on his wings. He is also getting his little stubby red tail feathers that are now just visible. I have been feeding Charlie as his crop empties and not by time frame exactly. I have therefore been up at all strange hours to administer his feeds. I have based the feed texture & strength on the valuable advise given to me by the forum. I have still got a long way to go but feel that Charlie and I have gotten off to a very good start & believe we will continue to do so with all your support and valuable knowledge. Thank you everyone
