my oscar will not touch his pellets ever since he has tried seeds...I have tried harrison's pellets and Kaytee exact. He stopped eating bananas and will only eat soybeans...anyone have any suggestions for a now picky eater?

They do not know what caused the infection...but when he was just 4 weeks to about 7 weeks he was around lots of other birds. But I dont think that is the problem because now he is at home and not exposed to any other birds and his cage is very well kept, he gets outside time when I come home. I have spent $80 at the first vet who did not know really what was wrong and gave him medication that did not do anything. The avian specialist advised me to put him back on his antibiotics and possibly do a blood test....

Just wondering if anyone has had any problem with their CAG having blood in their stool . Ive taken Oscar to two different vets. Now he is seeing an avian specialist. He was put on medication for a bacteria and a yeast infection and then the blood stopped. Then shortly after (about 2 weeks later) starting again. So now he is on the medication again....This is why they tell you never to buy an unweaned bird... anyone's thoughts or similar situation? Thanks

hi all, thanks for the feedback. I keep trying and he keeps his feet very firm on the perch and I push a little and he will not step up no matter what. I have to pick him up first and then he will stay on my hand/arm. if i push his chest with my hand he is almost going to fall over before he steps his little foot on my hand....i guess in time. maybe he is not ready.

Thanks so much everyone!!! -
Just wondering if CAGS that talk and have only been around humans do that whistle call in the morning and evenings? or do they talk?? My CAG I decided to keep his original name Xerxes... he is really starting to "talk" a lot although not very clear at all, but he is just practicing sounds I presume and also biting less since I read that Sally Blanchard book The beak book. very good info. thanks in advance!!

Please read this book called "The Beak Book" by Sally Blanchard....I have really been educated by this book...all about the birds beak and behavior and what to do and what not to do..I ordered the book online about $25...but well worth it.

Grey is not friendly---biting problem

I ordered that beak book....should get it by next week thanks! -
I already took my bird to the vet and he says everything is fine. But since I first got him he will not let me pet his back only head scratches. He makes a noise, very faint like I am hurting him when I pet his back. The person I got the bird from has a very well socialized Grey, lets you pet and just hangs out with out biting at all, very very friendly...completely opposite of my bird. Can I ask the vet to do an x-ray of his wings or is that unnessesary?

Grey is not friendly---biting problem

Yes sounds familiar..lol...I brought him to visit family and he could not be bothered by anyone. although I finally figured out that I have to handle him more. Seems when I hold him on my hand and type on computer with other(homework) he just hangs out and seems to behave a little better. Although he does not speak as your does, he whistles and once in a blue moon he will make a sound like 'hello'. I hear him mumbling though I think he is trying to speak. I have only had him a month and a half and he is about two years old...The vet said it was hard to tell his age, but my grey still has silver in his eyes, they arent yellow...so I am assuming he is under 3. I am lucky because my grey does allow me to give him head scratches, . when I tell him "up" he leans his head forward for a head scratch, then will try to bite if I persist with the 'up'. I guess its his way of maintaing control. for training sessions I have been using a stick and he goes right on it...its like they know--he does not hesitate at all to go on the stick. but if its my hand he will try to bite. so I use the stick then he will go onto my hand without biting... -

http://www3.upatsix.com/liz/articles/biting.html Just wanted to say that this link really helped. Practicing the "laddering" with my grey has helped a lot. Now he will step up from his cage onto my hand(not every time--but making progress)... -

Hey thanks so much for that link!!!much appreciatedB) -
I read on a website that supposedly, biting problems are the easiest to tame...Do I really need to spend the money on these videos claiming to stop biting...does anyone have a CAG that bites? Is it possible to get him to stop biting...He only allows us to look at him, refuses to go on my finger UNLESS he is on the ground, then he will allow me to pick him up--other than that I have been using a stick to get him off his cage so he doesnt bite. Then I have to watch him every second because he'll try to bite my face if I get too close. I have had him for a month and a half and he seems not to like me or anyone for that matter...but I am determined to provide a safe loving environment for him...any suggestions appreciated. B)
