  1. Thank you everyone for your kind words and support. We have one thing in common and that is that we love our animals and our animals love us unconditionally without judging.I may not have the support and love of my family but I have decided to move on from that chapter in my life because it's just too painful.I have found new friends and family on many forums and they are genuine. I hope we are can stay true to our words. Thanks again Marcia
  2. Hey Cagal08 It's good to see you here.In July I lost Sydney the 11 year old Harlequin Macaw and it was less than 2 month after the loss of my friend her previous owner to suicide.I took it really hard and sunk into a deep depression and contemplated suicide myself but I called my Dr and asked to be placed in the hospital while they adjusted my meds. They kept me for 8 days and so I have been out for 5 days now.I'm not 100% but I am sleeping better.Between Bipolar, anxiety,Colitus and many other things going on it was a relief to find out that I don't have Crohn's Disease. But they did find precancerous cells. All I can do is hope for the best and ask for continued prayers. 3. We picked up Rocko the CAG and Henry the U2 on Monday 7/7.They are a hoot.Rocko is very spastic but not too much.Henry the U2 is a different story before we even picked him up he started making a strange noise.I had to ask what the noise was and they told me oh that's Henry. It sounds like the noise of a pig.Once we put him in my truck he continued on with the pig noise. And when we arrived to our house it was the same thing. We were already warned about locking the cage and bowls as well as keeking things away from his cage because he was an escape artist as well as Henry would take things into his cage. That didn't last but several hours before we were retrieving things from his cage. The next morning was no picnic either when my husband woke up to go to work at 2:30am. Henry started with his pig noises and then the dogs started howling and to add to to commotion all the birds were woken up and started in with their noises. It was no fun dealing with all this 2:30am and having an appointment with one of the hyper dogs.So my day started of lovely and that was only in the first 24hrs,Well the good thing is it's not a permanant thing for Henry because a bird friend of mine will be taking him.She knows all about his little quirks.I find Henry a little weird because he doesn't make any normal Cockatoo noises. So as soon as her move is situated then hopefully things will be set.
  4. Dave I'm assuming you were referring to me as the person with 35 birds and some have not adjusted. There are actually 27 and if people would like to consider me a hoarder you know what they say when you assume. Each and everyone of my birds are seen by a Avian Vet who comes to our house. So if that was the case none of them would be in my care.I already gave my apology to the poster. Now if you feel the need to try and make a point go right ahead.I know what goes on in our house and it's far from what anyone wants to assume.I don't have to justify anything to you or anyone else.
  5. I will say the good thing that has become out of this loss is that for some reason whether it be a cat,dog or bird they somehow manage to make it to our door.We are able to help them all.I look all that as a special blessing. They are special in their own way.I'm glad I have been given this opportunity to help them all.It has really helped in many ways. Marcia
  6. The ending to this story is that weeks later the person was shot and killed.People who knew us and what he did said that he got what he deserved.I'm sorry I don't think like that. Those birds were in a happy home and had already been uprouted several times.I know they were very confused.I have always related to the animals.Today is the day of that terrible thing happened.I will always remember this and the 7th because that was my husband's birthday. To most they were just birds but to me they were my babies,my children and that was how I cared and treated them.
  7. Sorry if there was some kind of mix up in the thread. Is there any way you can keep your CAG I'm sure he has grown accustomed to you and loves you dearly? It will really be hard for him to adjust.I have quite a few that are rehomes and are not adjusting well. Marcia
  8. It doesn't seem fair that you are getting rid of one to make room for the new one.Does that mean in 6 months to 18 months the same thing will be happening to the baby?I feel bad for the first one that is now being replaced. Marcia:angry:
  9. Thank You Dan The list that is shown are the replaced flock all except one Sydney the Senegal they left her behind.I'm sure she took a couple of bites out of them which was a good thing. The sad part about this is I knew the person who did this and my birds did too. It's a little hard to take people at their word. 10. For my flock that was stolen 4 years ago.Not knowing their where abouts I have considered them to be possibly dead. The way they were taken has always left a void in my heart.Praying and hoping that they are alive and being properly cared for. After 4 years my heart still aches. Marcia
  11. Hello everyone.I wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this.Today I was contacted by Rocky Lee's previous owner. He passed away 2/8 from Conjective Heart Disease at the age of 5 years old.Well we are still friends and keep in touch. The call started out with I have some good news for you.I couldn't imagine what it was then she continued on about a Congo named Rocko who was 5 years old and my heart jumped. She told me the story about how his owner is sick like her and can no longer take care of him.Well she told her about me and so Rocko's owner wants me to have him.So I'm ready to hang up and she says wait there's one more. Now I have to sit back down and by now my mouth is open. She goes on to tell me about Henry who is a 10 year old U2 who has had many homes. Not really a problem. So we hang up and within minutes the owner calls me.BTW both of their names are Jaquie. So we talk and really hit it off and I tell her yes without talking to my husband.Oops!Well I call him at work and a few fuses were blown but the outcome is that I WON!:woohoo: So now is to rearrange and make the final day to pick up Henry and Rocko.Wish us luck. Marcia
  12. judygram wrote: Oops in my haste I put the wrong amount of parrots we're not quite at 30 yet.Still at 27 right now.Though we have the three CAG's that we are working on there still are others that I will talk about later in the right section.I'm still getting used to this board but it's easier than some.I was able to load my picture without going through too much. That was a plus seeing I'm not exactly computer savvy. Our amount of parrots won't grow too high or we'll be living on the lawn. It's a good thing I talked Elliott into seeing the birds in a different way.Now he is beginnihg to love the ones that he's not afraid of.Some of his favorites are the Eclectus,Greys and his favorite Amazon is Beau the Yellow Nape Amazon.Elliott participates now where as before he would say "Your Birds" So it is a big step from the way things were. We also have Macaws large and small. The Large Elliott has limited contact with but he does feed and water them. Before he wouldn't even go in the room with them. Hey I'm working to make him a complete bird person.Do you think I'm pushing my luck?Love can make you do stranger things!
  13. Judygram If my memory serves me correct you are in Virginia.I know it's been a long time since I've been here but that's what I remember.Correct me if I'm wrong.Having so many parrots I have been to so many sites doing research.I'm glad I found my old emails and happen upon the link to this site.Yes I have 7 Greys 2 Timnehs and 5 Congos.1 of the Timneh's I named Taco was work but has come so far in the 3 years that I have had him.Now for the 5 Congos 2 of them are okay they don't have issues. The work will be the last 3 Congos that we took in.There is Yoyo she is 4 years old and was surrendered to a Pet Store who found me.Loving the challenge like I do I accepted the same day I met her I was greeted with a nice bite most people would of walked away but not me.I came back a few days later and took her home. Her story was that her original owner adult child moved back home with a small child that would pick with Yoyo. Of course you know what the outcome was?Yoyo started biting to defend herself and then was thrown out.Yoyo is very cage territorial which doesn't surprise me and has lots of fears to hands, toys and things. Then there is Sinbad who is 2 years old rehomed because the couple will be eventually relocating.Sinbad was very attached to the male owner it's been about 4 months and he still doesn't let us handle him.Now for the number one case is Casey is 10+old she was kept in a Cockatiel cage for 1 year with 2 Cockatiel toys and not allowed out of the cage. The owners were afraid of her because she bit them a few times. She is now in a large parrot cage in our bedroom and talks non stop.Every once in a while I can sneak and touch her.But she is still a work in progress.A lot of damage has been done.I've seen a lot of cases that really needed help and this was one of them. What angered me the most about this case was that the owner claimed that things were the way they were because he didn't know any better and was new to parrots.Well he had a computer with all the latest. Then within 1 month he called me to tell me he felt bad about the way things went with Casey and that he wanted to make things right.Well his idea of making things right was to go purchase another Congo African Grey which he also named Casey. That was it for me I no longer have contact with this person.I only feel for the furture of the new Casey.judygram wrote:
  14. To many of you who don't really know me because I haven't posted much.I've been sick for some time with GI problems and many other problems that was ongoing which continues on.I also suffer from mental illness which is a daily struggle.Well my Dr didn't manage my medication correctly and that caused a big problem.During all the health problems we still managed to take in several animals that were in need of a home.1 more Chihuahua,3 Eclectus and 1 Congo Grey.I have been very fortunate that my husband Elliott has picked up the slack when I'm unable to.I was able to find this site again because I store everything. If not for that I would not be able to be here now.I hope to be able to return because now I have 7 Greys not all difficult but some with some serious issues. Marcia
  15. How I give my birds a bath is I turn the shower on warm and place them in the shower quickly. Then I leave them for a few minutes until they get wet. Then they don't associate the whole bad task with me.Once the time is up I go in an rescue them with a towel and we are the best of friends. Now as for the Aloe Vera spray that is being mentioned. Are you using the juice or the Aloe Vera Distilled Liquid?I use the one put out by George's. There is a difference between the two. Marcia
  16. There is Organic Microwave Popcorn w/no salt no oil put out by Bearitos. You find it in Health Food Stores. It has a website if you can't find it www.littlebearfoods.com. It's in Boulder,Co USA. I don't know if that will help.I use it for my Eclectus's who are real sensitive to different things.
  17. Boswell One other thing please bring someone with you.You never know what or who may be waiting for you.
  18. Bos The pictures look much better.I say go get her.And please vet check ASAP.Let us know how it goes.
  19. Okay I'm late on reading this thread.I agree that it's a hybrid and not just a TAG.I wasn't happy with what I've seen either in the picture.Besides the eyes not looking right the feathers aren't in the best condition. It kind of looks like it's a plucker. The condition of the things in the cage I'm not thrilled with.Perches are not that expensive. And if the person isn't willing to get perches what else are they skimming on?Perhaps food, vet care, etc.I agree it needs to be rescued but at what cost? You could end up with some serious vet bills if it turns out that it's not a bacterial infection.I've purchased/rescued some birds and their condition was so bad that one died within the first month and the second within 3 months and they weren't even 1 years old.Thank God it was not contagious but just a case of a bad breeder($1600 later).A lot of people do not take good care of their animals and in the long run the animals suffer. If you know anything about birds they hide their illness until it's too late.$400 isn't that much if it means saving that bird but there are risks involved.I hope you don't have any other birds or if you do I hope you have somewhere to quarantine this bird.I wish you well.I hope it's just a case of a bad picture.
  20. I'm a animal lover period.I am owned by 5 Chihuahuas and my oldest is Baby she is 14 years old.I've had her since she was 10 1/2 weeks old. She's well cared for but over weight(who isn't)she's been on a special diet for quite some time.Every morning I nudge her to make sure she's alive. One of my biggest fears is that I'll wake up and she'll be dead.I know I need to be realistic all things die I just can't handle death well.I also have 1 Cat and 20 birds.Call me crazy I don't care. They deserve the best.I've been rescuing and rehoming for over 10 years.
  21. xxbeccyxx wrote: Oh Thank You Beccy. I'm hoping that more people will jump on the ban wagon there are just too many birds being surrendered abandoned and abused out there. And there aren't too many people willing to open up their hearts and homes to them.I'm very fortunate to have finally met a loving husband who understands my love for the animals we have. If there's a need out there and we can take it in we usually do.Though we are coming to our limit. So more people need to step up to the plate. We're not funded by no 501 funding either this is on our own.
  22. Yes Judy I will share someday with everyone.I still don't have it mastered with the rest of the birds. Though I do have quite a few that do get along with one another.I've had them from 1 month to 10 years.I had to start over when 3 years ago someone stole all my birds except for my Senegal.Ever since then the birds that needed homes more or less fell into my lap.And now there are 20.
  23. judygram wrote: No Judy You misread my post. They all came from different homes at different times.Yes my hands are full but I have my whole day to devote to them because I am a stay at home animal mom.My hubby doesn't mind and he helps out.As long as they're all happy. Each of their situations are different. And I love all of them.
  24. Dan I wanted to know the same questions.I am now owned by 5 Greys(2 timnehs,3 Congos)all different ages adopted at different times. As well as a flock of other birds. All the Greys came from a single bird home. The last two I adopted within the last 2 months have taken a liking to each other. My Birds are definately different they tolerate my husband and love me.He doesn't interact with them as much as he should. He has admitted to being afraid of them due to the fact they often bite him. My suggestion interact more with Capricorn when hubby is not around chances are you will build a closer bond with him.As far as Henry and Capricorn becoming friends it's possible. So far all my Greys get along it hasn't always been that way.As for my other birds that's a different story.
