OMGosh...I just read that comic!!!!! I can't stop laughing...THAT'S our CAG!!!!! My husband thinks I am in the office having some kind of hysterical breakdown I'm laughing so hard....
-
Yep, bird sniffer here...Ours smells like baby powder...I can't get enough. Although...my husband gives me the squint eyes when I do it too much...like it's nor normal or something! LOL! It is in my world.

The growling didn't bother me a lick, I am just so glad you posted those two links! I am relieved that it probably isn't plucking...and now that she is dry I can't see the bald spots where the white fluffies used to be...I put her in her cage, completely soaked, turned her vitamin D lamp on and let her pout and dry...first time that I know of in a year or her entire life that she had a proper bath!...again thank you for coming to my rescue!

THANK YOU!!!!!! I just tried your suggestions, put her in the (clean) sink, filled to top of legs and sprayed her with cold water and then some aloe juice...she was madder then the devil but she actually got wet!!!! I soaked her feathers and quit worrying about her being upset, when she spread her wings (to try and fly) I got under those too. The dust on the top of the water looked like someone sprinkled flour on top. She is still mad but that's ok, she doesn't like me anyways...and I think the health benefits of her getting a bath are greater than her being a bit miffed. She is 9 and I noticed at the bottom of her belly when she was wet there weren't any white down feathers...so either a lot of molting or possible plucking from being so dry? You can't tell the white foofies are missing when she is dry her grey feathers covered it..it wasn't until she was wet that I saw this. What do you think? She eats Harrison's high potency (was on just seed when I got her) a bit of fruit and hates hates veggies. She would rather starve than eat them.

Hi, I am sure this has been posted before BUT I'm still going to ask...what if your CAG HATES baths, misting or anything that involves "wet". She will get into her water dish occasionally, it's small and the only thing that gets wet is her feet and my home. I have tried a bigger bowl that looks like her water dish in the bottom of her cage, etc. I have had her a year and she is not having any of it...she is NOT at plucker and her feathers are shiny and healthy looking and.... she's a dust bowl. Should I not worry and just let nature take it's course? When I do spray her with Aloe juice, it rolls off of her and she screams. I don't want to upset her. I have done the months of trying to get her in the shower step by step that I read about...nope, screams at that too. She is 9. I can't touch her either to lift her wings etc because she will remove a finger...so I have an untouchable CAG, who hates showers, bathes, misting ....any suggestions?

I use the Harrison's High Potency FINE...there is no waste....she takes her tongue, touches the little pellet pops it into her mouth and goes back for more. NEVER any crumbs left in her dish.

wanna get your grey and other birds to eat their pellets?
JanMarie replied to lisachristine's topic in Bird Food
I am having that problem now...for four months trying to get my grey Dolly and Eclectus Oliver to eat TOPS pellets...nope. Not having it. Won't eat it. It's exhausting trying new things....BUT I haven't done this yet Lisachristine! I am going to try this tomorrow. I even tried putting it in unhealthy cornbread muffins that they LOVE and they wouldn't eat even that. So hopefully this works. Thanks for the suggestion. -
Great picture and caption!!! Laughed out loud for real!!!

Love the happy joyful Christmas photos! Thank you for sharing!

Dolly was never fledged and she's not graceful at all. When I got her, her wings were/still are clipped. When she does fly off her play stand she reminds me of a turkey trying to fly...she scares me too! I don't want her to get hurt. If you do let their wings grow back how do you let them practice flying?? I am afraid that Dolly will get hurt.

Muse~ I busted out laughing "We have an adorable but meaner than snot budgie that we call "Little Budgie" " Thank you everyone, I think I feel comfortable now and I will get another bird, a budgie. I think I am addicted to these feathered friends....Even Dolly who holds me with utter contempt I love. -
Anyone have a Grey and a Parakeet (not in same cage just same room)
JanMarie replied to JanMarie's topic in The GREY Lounge
Thanks Dave & Judy! I am referring to a Budgie...I would keep them separated (not on same play stand) since I have no idea if Dolly would hurt the little guy. She sure is hell bent on killing me! -
I want to get a parakeet as I have always liked the little guys. I wondered if that has been a problem for anyone to have a grey and a different species bird? Does the grey have issues with that? My Dolly comes first so I don't want to upset her. I've had cockatiels and parakeets and have enjoyed them and since my husband is Dolly's true love (she allows me to cook clean and feed her) I thought about getting another little parakeet. Any input from you all is welcome! Jan

Tyson'sMom...I think we have the same bird...except mine only like my husband but does the exact same thing and also reacts the same as Tyson when petting and having to go back in the cage. Dolly also hates her toys but will shred paper....and not food motivated either...so treats are no big deal. I also have to use a wood perch to get Dolly off my husband because she will bite HARD when she has to go back to her cage and Dolly, like Tyson, could have her head stroked for hours until her feathers wore off. I am taking the advise you received as well. So many wonderful people on this forum that really know their greys! Jan

Not sure how to take this...every time I walk over to Dolly's cage she does the heart wings and flutters them and bites every single one of her nails...clicks each and every one in her mouth then starts on the next foot and does the same thing..but it's only when I walk up to her and talk to her. Am I upsetting her? She doesn't seem upset but the nail biting makes me think I'm making her nervous. I talk softly to her and it seems to make her worse...any suggestions? I'm getting a complex!

Dolly as some of you may know...hates water, baths, misting, showering etc. Growls, screams, flaps and acts as if she is being murdered. So today as my Thanksgiving guests are getting seated I am pouring ice cold water in their glasses I decide to add the rest to Dolly's drinking bowl. We are seated, eating.... then all of a sudden people start flinching, asking who is throwing their water on them looking around suspiciously at each other and then I look at Dolly....happily bathing in her ICE COLD WATER BOWL throwing it all over the place trying to get it on her back and wings...people were seriously getting wet with her bathing...bottom line. I am so happy she took a bath!! Thankful for the little things. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

I have the first cage and it's good for overnight stays but I would LOVE the second one...The first ones I ordered off of Amazon for a lot less and it came with a perch and two bowls...for $39 and free shipping.

I will be gone for two days is that ok to leave a grey home?
JanMarie replied to JanMarie's topic in The GREY Lounge
Everything was good when I got home. My husband and I didn't do well leaving her, we worried the entire time...next time I will have someone check in on her and spend time with her too. Us leaving for the day and half was unexpected so we did not have time to find a sitter. Dolly was happy to see us until she remembered we left her then there was "the attitude". She was ok by evening. Thank you all for the good advice. I have a seed question. Dolly loves safflower seeds and I can't get her to eat pellets I have tried just lessoning the amount and leaving the pellets in her dish but she seriously looks like she is going to starve herself. Should I let her have just the pellets? And hope that she gets hungry enough to eat them? OR just leave the safflower seeds in there too. She is not one to try new things. I seriously have to eat it in front of her to get her to at least try it...then if she doesn't like it...it goes flying, looks at me as if I tried to serve her caterpillar sprinkled with arsenic. I keep trying though. I'm just concerned about her eating to many seeds. -

I don't have a TV in there...might be worth the investment to get one I can sit on the kitchen table. She could see that with no problem. Another good idea! Thank you -

Hi...thanks for the reply! The people who I trust are going with me! I will leave the Christmas music on~she seems to like that....and a night light since she won't be covered up at night. I did feel more comfortable leaving her home than putting her someplace strange and noisy. I will lavish her with attention the minute I walk in the door.
