  1. Was more about people you don't know, knowing you own a parrot and stealing it, not the video in itself . https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-ELjoGKLO6qTWJKeWVjS3MzSDA/view?usp=sharing
  2. Django is doing really well, he is super sweet and loves his cuddling so much, it is unreal. I never thought parrots like cuddling so much like he does. I inserted a video from facebook, but not sure if that works if it's not public, but I don't like to have my videos open for everyone when it comes to my birds (considering there are groups out there to steal them . https://www.facebook.com/joyce.brok/videos/10154633624338101/
  3. Thanks all . I still feel sad about Django and the days before we got the new baby I have shed many tears of guilt. I still feel guilty, but it also feels nice with the new baby. It is weird though, he is so cuddly, he wants to cuddle all the time and I jokingly said to my sister it almost feels as if it is actually Django (reincarnated) and cuddling so much to make up for the lost time he had with us over the last few months. She said that he is so smart already she wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. Here are some bonus pictures. I was thinking of sharing some videos, but then I'd have to put them on public on my facebook and I rather not with the weirdo's out there at times. I'll see if I can upload it to youtube and then get a clickable link or so .
  4. Then look at this one Sterling . He is supposed to sit in a plastic box, but since he was showing insane climbing skills last night we decided during the day we go on and off in terms of box and cage (low sitting of the cage). So he can practice sitting on a stick, and in the night I take him to my bedroom where he can sleep in the box and feel a little more safe at night. (just above him there's a carton "plate" we made from the box where the cage came from as a ceilling).
  5. After the loss of our first African Grey (Django March 2016, only 3 years old, Zinc poisoning that was discovered by me by accidental thoughts after researching what he could have) we have decided to get a new one. We did however decide we only wanted a parrot that was related to Django. Today was that day after a long wait . My mum really wanted to call this one Django as well, so that is his name. After he was fed he instantly went to me to cuddle, which was bizarre, and it made me cry because it reminded me so much of the old Django. Then when my brother had him for a bit, he looked at me and literally ran across the table making cute sounds and again wanted to lay in my arms and be cuddled (I cried again... ye). I am very happy with our new baby bird, but at the same time I feel like I'm betraying the old Django so much right now, so a little bit of mixed feeling and I seem to be the only one. Some of you may remember the videos where Django was super interactive to my voice and how I taught him quite a bit already in a short period that he was with us. Anyone has some tips to shake the guilt and feeling of betrayal off off me? Here are some pictures of the new baby to keep the tone of the thread a little light . Sorry for the heavy stuff. He is 11 weeks now btw!
  6. It's normal to feel this way hun. Django's 3 months death is today as well and I'm still struck by grief. My mum wants a new bird to care for and hope it will be the same bird as Django, but I honestly don't want another one. The idea of him being "replaced" like that just hurts me even more. I still think, the way you described it that it could have been a possible poisoning without knowing, the way how Spy passed away in his last moments and not being chirpy, having normal poo just reminds me so much of how Django was before he passed away as well. We bought 2 new cages, one for Lorrito and one for the new bird (when we get him/ her) just to be sure it's not the cage and we replaced all the toys as well. So stay strong /hug
  7. I am so sorry to hear this. Especially since it seemed to be ok when you were at the vet . We lost our bird beginning this year as well, nothing was wrong with him according to poop checkups and crop checkups, but it turned out it was a metal poisoning from a chain hanging in his cage. You could also do a necropsy to have checked what happened and why he died. I wish you all the strength in this dark time /hugs
  8. Lorrito joined our family when he was about, most likely, 12 years old. I don't think he ever experienced love and still I am convinced the pet shop that sold him didn't breed him and that it's very likely he's caught in the wild. We didn't have much knowledge about parrots back then as we do now, since we just believed the petshops. About the biting part, I know exactly when they are going to bite. Django usually doesn't bite through and when Lorrito does it's usually per accident as he is scared when he hauls at me (doesn't happen that often, just when my dad gets in the room he gets upset. I can't even get him out of the cage when my brother is in the same room as he will fly and attack him. That was the first thing Lorrito did on the first day in our home... so I think Lorrito either got abused in his previous home or as said a wild bird.) Both birds are jealous and will lash out if I pet them after I've pet the other, but I know how to read their jealousy and usually I just tell them they're sweet birds and that they will get their petting turn as well. This actually seems to work wonders as the biting after I played or doing whatever with the other parrot has decreased alot. Well it's bothering me in the sense that sometimes I just want to take them out of their cage and they start it as soon as I do. I only read that I shouldn't encourage that behavior and that it's best to ignore it, but it's hard to ignore if they keep doing it when you try to play or just take them out of their cages. Or just say "good morning lovelies". I think Django has only been pet a few times, I found out pretty fast and then my mum stopped doing it. Usually it was when he had his food, he would lay on our chest and we would just pet his shoulders (like you would a cat) and he'd fall asleep. I don't know if Lorrito ever has been petted like that as he was already older when he joined us and he's never been petted before until I got a bit older and dared to risk my fingers to try and tame him so he would be able to get out of the cage as I felt bad for him. We don't touch them on the "bad spots" at least. I don't know if it's bad to ignore those spots or that it wouldn't hurt them psychologically. Nah Django loves all of us, he likes my mum, brother and me. He dislikes my sisters, but I think he knows they dislike him too, since they always complain about the noise he makes (high screeching and only when they're in the same room). And yea I know how to read biting on both parrots . Yea Django has a tendancy to throw his head down like he wants to be petted and then BAM instant bite (not hard), but you know when it happens at least. When he was a baby we stopped petting his shoulders/ back as soon as we knew, I think it happened a few times, mostly after he's had his porridge. Lorrito is always affectionate without biting, but he usually wants to hold my finger and puts his paw up as if he's telling me "give me your finger because I like holding it" - as weird as that may sound. I mean I just pet his head/ neck. Am I ok to pet his back when he sits on my finger or when he sits on my shoulders sitting next to my face that I can just give him a quick pet? I'm just worried that he might get messed up. Sorry it was more being jokingly about it. Have to keep things light . Yea sometimes it does work, so I'm glad with that. I'll have another look! Thanks alot for your advice .
  9. So it's been a while and Django has been increasingly improving his vocabulary including new words and mixing up words: Known from before: - Hallo (hello ). - Houdoe (bye for our province) - Django - Ha menneke/ ha jongen (hey boy/ son) - Ha poepert (ha poopert) - Poepkont (poopbutt) - I love you (this is in English) New words: - Lekker appeltje (nice apple) - Ik hou van jou (I love you) - Pandor (our cats name) - Papa (dad) - Bah bah (ew ew) - Kom maar (come on) - Kom es hier (come on) - Ja, ok, ok, ja ok, doei (yes, ok, ok, yes, ok, bye - this is a re enactment of the "phonecall" I did a few times a day next to his cage to have him talking) Also some jibberish we can not understand, he talks really unclear when he talks at times. I recorded it, but can't make anything out of it. I guess it's practicing. Ok so now comes the best part, he's combining words. His most epic combination so far has been "Lekker kontje hoor" - (nice butt though).
  10. So our Amazone Lorrito has been doing this behavior to mostly myself and the other females in the house (when my sisters lived here). Although not as much as when I started to take him out of the cage. I read up on tips on how to discourage this acting, but sadly he keeps doing it. Ignoring it won't help. If he sees me he sometimes already start doing his mating breathing. When Django our African Grey was younger he did this as well, at the time we thought something was wrong with him and he usually would stop it pretty fast too. The last few days (Django is about 1 years old now), Django is having the behavior of letting his wings hang and breathe weirdly (it sounds kind of cute). I wasn't sure if this was mate calling as well since Lorrito does it differently. Youtube told me this is African Grey mating behavior.... Both parrots do it to me and one of them just has to listen to my voice when I say good morning to start it.... I guess I'm a parrot babe magnet or w/e, but it is annoying. I have never pet Lorrito on anything other than his head he sometimes when offers his paw (no petting just offering finger and he grabs it with his paw), but only recently I dared to accept his paw (considering he can change mood from friendly to aggressive as soon as a male enters the room) Django was petted on the back when he was a small parrot, but as soon as we knew this was experienced as sexual we stopped and again only petting the head/ neck and giving paw. I just wonder what else could have set off these birds and why only me. Could it be that my voice is really sensual to them in a way (I got a calm, pretty low voice, but wouldn't say it's sensual, heh), or am I petting them too often that they think I'm their mate? They don't do it to anyone else. I can't even read the paper without Lorrito going "hrrrr hrrrr heeeheeeeeheeee" from his cage.... Damnit I wish I had this attraction on human males, haha. Thanks for reading and possible other tips but the ones I've already done. TL: DR; - Only petting head - Ignoring the behavior when they start doing it (it doesn't matter they will do it anyway) - No more petting below the head for a very long time - I am a parrot babe magnet, help - I tried telling them no (like when they bite, to see if it works for the behavior) - I tried calmly telling the birds I'm a human and they are parrots and it would never work out (I actually did this, considering parrots are smart and hoping they'd understand something out of it) I am aware this looks like a troll thread, but I'm actually serious. edit: Lorrito is a male (sexed) Django is unknown (still not had his proper youthmoult, only few feathers here and there, when I have money I'll have him sexed as well, but I think he's a male).
  11. They do some kisses and all, but I have to keep each parrot on one hand. Either Lorrito lashes out or Django. Also can't have Lorrito out of his cage when brother is at home since he just attacks him (he did since day 1 and still not managed to get that out of his system - everyone is terrified of Lorrito except for me). They sometimes scream together where Django impersinates Lorrito and him getting upset yelling even louder etc.
  12. Just typed an entire story, just to press the X in the window, closing it down, sigh! So far Django turned 1 years old last Thursday (the 19th). He also lost his first flight feather. He's lost some of the smaller feathers, but no big ones yet, so hope his youth moult is starting now. His vocabulary is starting to get larger too. I'll just put it down in Dutch, with the English direct translation next to it. - Hallo (hello ). - Houdoe (bye for our province) - Django - Ha menneke/ ha jongen (hey boy/ son) - Ha poepert (ha poopert) - Poepkont (poopbutt) - I love you (this is in English) He also does this in a robot voice. Other than that he whistles - almost the entire Adams Family song - second level from super mario 1 - some of the legend of Zelda songs (small parts) - random tunes he made up himself ;p It's fun to keep him learning some random words. I only started I love you 2 weeks ago and he already picked it up (unclear but you can tell it's that).
  13. Joyvke

    talking

Django tends to talk alot more if he is by himself or at least when he thinks he is. Or when there's visitors he usually have himself heard. I don't know if you can teach him how to be vocal when you're around, I guess they will do so when they're ready maybe?
  14. So sorry to respond this late, I didn't see this post before! I live in Noord Brabant. Close to 's Hertogenbosch (the Southern part of the Netherlands). Holland is the province on the left side of the country hehe.
  15. Django already said "hallo" when he was around 3 or 4 months, just not very often. Also brabbled alot (making talking sounds without actually talking) . Try to tape it, it's so cute !
  16. Hopefully this works: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151888219438101&l=2800341704952145568
  17. Hey all! It's been a while that I've been here. Been very busy with school and all and kind of forgot to keep you lot updated. Django is doing great! He's completely off the pouradge (spelling) now since 3 or 4 weeks. He's 5 months now. We've been monitoring his weight and it seems to be pretty constant around 480. After every dropping of the handfeeding he dropped a few grams, but it went back up again. He is not too fat and definitely not too skinny. He's having a small vocabulary at the moment and he's more often than not only speaking/ whistling or making noises when he knows or thinks no one is around. What he does now is: Whistling the first bit of the Adams family (including the clicking ;p) Hello Django (very rarely, only heard him do it once or twice) Houdoe (bye in my province) Three different ways of a cat mewing Dog barking Laughing out loud (look up the fairy from the N64 Zelda games, a bit like that) Various whistling, even making up his own melodies Sang along 3 notes of "Icky breaky heart" He also copied our other parrot and goes "Lorriiiiiiiiiiito" occasionally. I will try to make a videoclip of him this week and upload it to my youtube . Also been trying to have Lorrito and Django getting to know eachother, but since Lorrito is such an unpredictable parrot (he bites everyone apart from me), I find it difficult to have them socialize.
  18. No problem. Again it just happened with his morning feed. After 30ml, it went all hypermode. He didn't wanted more and just wanted to get out of the cage instead.
  19. Like this, but 10 times faster. It doesn't happen all the time, but seems to be alot more frequent. He also steps back as if he doesn't want to be fed anymore. I'll see if I can tape it some time, but it's hard.
  20. It's hard to explain. Django is still not eating so much by himself, though he isn't as hungry as he used to now that his 12 o clock meal is being replaced by fruit and pellets. However we notice that on some feedings he goes hyperactive mode. The movement they usually make when begging for food, but 10 times faster. As if he goes turbo.... he doesn't seem to be sick or whatever and eating goes fine. Even when we wait and offer it with a spoon instead he seems to does it. Often gets only 30ml then goes Turbo so we stop a while and try again, but he keeps doing it. Is that the way for the baby to say "I've had enough" ?
  21. We actually do use corn cob, the breeder uses it for all his birds. Django doesn't seem to eat it. He usually plays around with it by throwing it around. Wanted to go with wooden chips (or whatever you call them), but if he eats those he can't digest it. I thought newspapers weren't good either due to the ink in there. I guess as long as he doesn't eat it it's fine. He's been on it for weeks now .
  22. I seem to have that effect on birds. The other parrot has horrible mating behaviour at the moment and ignoring doesn't work at all. As soon as I talk (not even to him) he starts doing so! Hope that birdtherapist will be able to come over soon so we can know where that comes from. He actually does have a stuffed animal . A yellow doggie the size of Django somewhat. He doesn't always like to cuddle with it though!
  23. Some promised vids. Don't mind the stupid voice I have. "Yaaawn" "Brabbling" He can already say "Hallo" and his name sort of too!
  24. PDD is not treatable and in most cases ends up bad news. I'm feeling really sorry for you. On the workshop I had last week they said pellets is the better option for PDD birds as the digestion of it will go better than with seeds. They actually made a fund with the bird vets over here to do research and see if they can make a vaccination or something as well I believe. I can only hope your Echo will be able to live a long and happy life, but keep in mind he can infect other birds you may have or will get in the future as well. The shitty thing bout virusses . Take care. You as well Sterling, really hope she will get a kick off regarding her immunesystem and getting back on track. Wishing you and your birdie well xx.
