Yes just like that!!! My guess is excited? Only because there was nothing around her to make her nervous
-
I dont think shes trying to fly, because she can fly VERY well. Shes flown around my house twice now, and with the previous owner she got outside and flew away for a couple days!!!
-
Soo its only my 4th day with Paco, I have been letting her sit on the outside of her cage on her door, its so far her favorite spot, well she keeps putting her head down like she wants to fly, (shes flighted) she doesnt fly but she kinda spreads her wings apart (not opening and stretching) but just holds them apart and moves them around, (like if a human was to move their shoulder blades.. What is she doing? Hopefully you guys get what Im saying lol

advice needed! getting used to a new flighted bird!
KatieG17 replied to KatieG17's topic in The GREY Lounge
Yes Dan she wants to be out!! She gives me this poor sad stare and when I open the door she goes right for it where shell sit and watch everyone. I kept her in the rest of the day after the incidents, but yesterday I put all the animals away and gave it a 2nd try. She sat there forever untill I put her back in!!.... Also a little off topic, but I believe the previous owners only took her in and out of her cage by a stick, is this something I should stick with?? -
Think it would be fun to find out! My Paco turns 11 in 2 days!! ;);)

For anyone who keeps up with my thread knows I picked up paco my cag on Friday! Well as much as l have been taking it slow and keeping her in her cage, yesterday afternoon I opended her door to put a toy in and she came crawling over as fast she could, I started to shut the door but she clung to it staring at me like wth.. so I slowly opended it and she deff wanted out. So she sat on the top of her door while it was open, now it was her 2nd day being here, so shes still very new, although she came from a home who as the same as me has, 3dogs, 2cats, and another bird. So she is used to their presence... Well while she was sitting on the door my cat ran by the cage and it spookrd her! She took off flying right to my macaw kokos cage. (Her previous home had a cockatoo, and they said paco would fly onto her cage as well, and that they would switch cages now and then ) well I have a very fiesty macaw, luckily she was on the floor because that's not how I want them to meet... (Koko doesn't fly) so I had paco step up onto her stick and brought her back to her cage.. not even 5 min later my fiance was cleaning kokos cage and had the tray pulled half out on the bottom , koko climbed onto it and with her weight on it, kinda made it hit the floor and it made a noise.. well the noise startled paco again! She took off flying right to my window where she had a rough landing, and of course here comes my curious cat (who wouldn't harm her) just liked to get close and watch.. came running over. I felt so terrible!! 2nd day and she's probably traumatized already I really hope in time she gets used to all this behavior and doesn't get spooked as easily!!

SHES HOME SHES HOME!!! Wasnt on yesterday due to my excitement, and I went out for a few hours last night! Will be adding more pictures today! But! a Recap of yesterday Went and picked her up, was so sad the current owners (husband, wife & kids) The wife had to leave and couldnt be there when Paco left because she was a wreck for getting rido f her They sent me home with her cage, travel cage and all her favorite things. She sat in the front seat with me on the way home, I didnt put her cover on because she just wanted to watch everything.. Quiet as a mouse all the way home.. I get home and start bringing in all the pieces of her cage to put together. In the box was an envelope with all of her vet records, I opened it up to look at them, to sadley find a long letter typed up from the wife... It went like this *warning tear jerker* "I tried to write all the things Paco says & loves to eat but I cant. It's very hard for me to think about all the wonderful things about herand not be torn about rehoming her. I love her very much and I feel horrible that I cant give her the time and attention she needs. Please be kind to her and go slow the first few weeks...she has only known us and our way of doing things for 10 years. It will take some time for her to realize that you are family now and not to be afraid. Her birthday is Wednesday (9-11-03), please tell her I said Happy Hatch day. She loves scrambled eggs, oatmeal & waffels (no syrup). She likes fruit more then veggies, but she gets veggies anyway. She loves juice, 100% juice any flavor. She loves to shred paper and she will search for food if you hide it. She prefers to be misted instead of the shower (but maybe she'll grow to like it when she sees koko do it). If it doesnt work out with you for any reason, I will take her back..I cant imagine what it would feel like to be shuffled from home to home. Thank you for giving her a good home" So after I was happy/sad to read that, and felt terrible for this woman, but I know I will be a great home... So I set up her cage, (the owners have a stick they would use to have her step up, I put it in the travel cage she stepped up immediately and I placed her in the cage, Where she quickely addapted to her not to new surroundings.. She checked everything out, hanging upside whistling and saying hello. She lets me reach in and move things around and will take any treat from my hand.. Shed make noise here and there, but this morning!!! She broke out of her shell even more (JUST AS I WAS TYPING THIS SHE LET OUT A BELCH!! hahahaha) First time I heard that!! This morning Shes made about 20 different kinds of whistles, beeps, and clucks. Including a truck backing up and a microwave. Her vocabulary that Ive heard so far included, Hello, hello paco, lets go outside, ready, good boy, stop yelling, whooooop, and added in some kissing smooches Its safe to say Im in love , Even more so because our Macaw (koko) has just always had it out for me for some reason, always coming at me and bluffing and all these mad gestures. Yet my fiance can go over to her and shell be daddys little angel to him..lol Now When I walk over to Pacos cage she comes onto the side of the cage where I am and gives me this deep stare, that I feel the beginning of our bond in ! <3333 I feel bad that shes locked up in her cage at the moment, Its killing me! Although I can interact with her through the cage, Id just like to be able to physically do that as well... But untill she gets a little more settled I dont want to bring her out.. So I made her scrambled eggs this morning, with egg shell, purple green and yellow peppers, carrots, ham and sausage sprinkled with some Parm cheese. She picked at it, but didnt seem to intrested I think its still from all the new surroundings! Will update with pictures today

I have a 9 month old son, along with my B&G and new to be CAG starting tomorrow.. How did you teach your children to stay away from the cages and not stick your fingers in there? Not too worried about it but any advice helps the only time I let my son go by my B&G kokos cage is when hes in his walker, where his arms arent long enough to reach the cage, Koko just normally stares at him like wth is that, and pays no attention.. Shes a pretty fiesty bird so I tend to worry more about her then I would with my CAG whos grew up in a household with kids.. Luckily Koko doesnt know how to fly so I dont have to worry about her dive bombing him lol... My CAG on the other hand can sooo:rolleyes: yeaa Well have to see how this goes
-
Well I found her on craigslist, she is 10 years old, she came from a very good reputable breeder that we know, the current owners have had her since she was a baby and hand fed fer.. The reason for giving her up is the husband feels like its not getting enough attention, its his wifes bird which still even today she doesnt want to let her go, when I went and met her 2 weeks ago, she had to step outside because she started getting teary eyed. The husband has his own company which he works alot, the wife is a dog trainer, so the majority of her time is spent on her 3 dogs. Its still loved and well cared for, just no time is being spent with her. The husband hates the noise, and complains he cant watch TV lol. So its going to be sad when Ii brig her home to my house because I know shes going to be upset.. I took in my uncles macaw a few years ago, and Koko (the b&G) was so very very upset for quite some time before giving us a chance.. The past owners of the CAG Paco, had told me a few years back the bird flew outside and ecscaped!! It took a couple days to get her back, so that scares the sh*t outta me... she lived in a city neighborhood with alot of houses and buildings... I on the other hand am surronded my miles of forests! So that would be so hard to find her. Other then thatim just looking forward to starting my bond with her!!

Yay I'm not the only one!

I just get so excited when i think about it that I get a little upset that i have to wait. Can you blame me!!? lol Well thats the end of the rant, Wish i had more then 1 picture to look at of her! Koko feasting on her 2nd cousin chicken (We had gutted our house and re built it, all accept for the trim around kokos windows cant you tell? thinking about doing 2X4s as trim LOL just because she will tear up the nice trim)
-
And another mini story: Koko knows how to ag on a crying baby also! If my son is crying about something and not stopping, she'll let out clear as day "shut up!!" "knock it off!!" "stop it!!!" Koko does not appreciate crying LOL. And all I can say is, Koko your not making this matter any better!!

Also I'm not too sure where all this hatred has came towards me. We got her while I was pregnant with my son. And every once in a while shed Want to step up on me, and shed let me hold her. But her attitudes just started changing towards me and was becoming more affectionate with my fiance. My son is 9 months old, I have not held her since before he was born, and I think maybe she doesn't like me because of the time I spend with him? Not sure, my fiance spends just as much time with him too, but I think she just loves him more, and sees him as my uncles (former owner) replacement. Funny story though! My son 9mo now in a walker and everything, bell be zooming across the floor and hit her cage while she's on her perch, not enough to knock her off, but shakes the cage a good amount, and koko will yell OWW!! Everytime Haha its the funniest thing. Now if I mess with stuff on her cage she gets mad at me. But if my son touches stuff on it (never out of my supervision) she could care less! She just looks at him and is like eh whatever

Koko had her eggs while up on a perch.. all three dropped and broke at the bottom of the cage! She doesn't give much notice before she lays them. I've been told if she can't get to the egg that she would keep producing them. The first time she layer, before hand she got very very nasty, wouldn't go in her cage, not even to sleep which is rare, she kept taking her rag and bunching it up in the corner and laying on it. You couldn't come 3ft from her cage with out her charging at you, beak and wings open. We knew something was up, but since she's never laid before we didn't know. We took the rag away to see if it helped her behavior. She went back to her cage when we took it away and 3 days later she pops out an egg. Like I said it broke, and we didn't want her to keep laying so we immediately replaced it with a ping pong ball. Which she claimed as her egg. We were told after a short amount of time shed realize it was a dud and forget about it.... Not!! She sat on it for a good month!! Rotating it, sitting on it. She started not eating because she was so obsessed over this "egg" eventually we took it away because she was getting nasty over it. And then she went back to behaving normally. She laid the 2nd one about 3 weeks later without any signs of nesting, the same thing with the 3rd about a month later

I have a 27 year old B&G that was given too me by my uncle. He has had her for the last 10 years, His wife and him are retired, they sold their home and bought an RV, where they will spend the rest of their time traveling! Which would be the reason why he had given her too me. Before my uncle had taken her in, he found her at a Pet shop, where she was COMPLETELY bald!!! The owner told him, an elderly couple had kept her locked up in a cage for who knows how long, because they could not handle her or take care of her... Over the 10 years my Uncle had koko she grew back almost all of her feathers minus some spots where there was such damage they will never grow back, her neck, under her wings, and her legs... Shes our bald neck birdy.. My uncle was the only one who ever handled her. So shes man bird.. and sad to say she just doesnt like me that much, but I still try! She is now in love with my fiance, that is her new man and he is all she wants. She is one Very very fiesty bird, she can be sweet, funny, but then her darkside can also come out at times... Which includes sometimes when I walk by and she flexs the steel cage bars, just to show me how tough she can be, then gives me this evil look like "yea thats right i can break your fingers off" haha. So, shes not good with strangers or people she does not know, and rarely shows affection. She is the queen of the castle! We have had her going on 2 years now, and she has laid eggs 3 times with in 2 months!!! My uncle said she has NEVER laid an egg for him before, so we were quite impressed!... Thats all for now though Must get back to work, and will continue about the life of Koko when I get home and post a pic so you can all see

So Sept 6th is the OFFICIAL bring home date!!! And HE is a SHEE, the one owner kept confusing me. Over the phone he told me Paco was a Female, but everytime I talked to him he kept refrencing her as a HE, so i assumed I misheard what he said and that it was a Male, hense the name Paco.. But when I went to visit he would say he, the wife would say she, and thats when I found out He really is a SHE!? Confusing but glad I know now.. lol

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to be a Stay at home Mom or Dad, weather you have kids or just your Greys and Birds at home.. Me being one of them. I currently Work full time at Home Depot, Training on becoming a Breastfeeding Counselor... and hoping starting January of next year to drop down to part time at home depot, and filling in my missed time with my counseling position, which I can work from home for part of that.. My fiance works 40+ hours a week. So on top of my work schedule, being a mom of a beautiful 9mo old, and our 4 legged fur kids, I still need make time for my feathered Babies to make up for all the time Ive missed! How many of you guys Work full time, or even part time? And have a crazy schedule weather it be kids or something else? How do you Find and Make up the time for all thats lost with your work/home life? Love to hear how everyone juggles everything in life and can still be a great and loving parent to their bird(s) !

I'm gonna have to go the diluting route and try working it out of her daily routine
