  1. Maybe we need to make one, just for general chat. I was just thinking as I heard from one of my friends still in the Middle East, (Have to leave the classified info out) but how lucky those of us that live in America are, all of us, black, white, yellow, brown, every color every creed are? Were so divided by political and petty differences that we individually think America SHOULD be, and we forget (Or never have seen) what it is like to live in some 3rd world country. Conditions that the average American could not even conceive of. Yet we squabble about our petty political differences. I can assure you that you do not ever want to see it, let alone know how the government operates, or the conditions under what you would live in a third world country, and how much is taken for granted. I just want to say, that whatever God you believe in, or not believe in, know that you still live in the most blessed country in the world if not by God, then by chance should you be an atheist, and a lot of people gave their lives in pursuit of keeping it that way. So the next time a discussion is had about all the terrible things going on here, remember this. You STILL live in the most blessed country in the world, and not to let petty differences in opinions divide you. We are ALL Americans, Not Irish Americans, Not Italian Americans, Not African Americans, ect....ect, but ALL one thing, AMERICANS, and if you doubt me, I've seen blood from everyone, and it is ALL red. There is one fact that applies to everyone and everything through out the history of every civilization, and it applies to humans and animals and Grey's too, United in a group we survive, and alone we fall. Maybe we are doomed to make the same mistakes of the Roman Empire and the like, but if enough people learn from the mistakes of the past, maybe, we have a chance. I use the Roman empire as an example only because how long it lasted but it fell, divided, and we as a country are like 3 years old compared to that dynasty. Just pay it forward, and do something different, maybe we can make it, maybe we cant, the children ARE the future, teach them REAL history, what really happened in the past, not some jaded college professor's version of it. The generations before us gave us an example to follow. Are we smart enough to learn from it? Are we smart enough to know that everything bad being argued about is about things that were done by people long in the grave? Use the good things instead of the bad things? I just don't know. There is verse in the bible, I don't think anyone can argue with if your being honest about it with yourself. "For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief." Just my thought for the weekend.

  2. In San Diego Dr. Jenkins is a renowned and highly recommended avian vet. Quite the character, too!

  3. Vannah seems to be a bit off balance or unsure of her footing. We chalked it up tho nervousness, but is not getting better. When we first met Vannah we noticed her back inner toe on each foot appeared deformed. Her former companion said she had always been like that. The vet made mention of them as if something had happened to her. Now that you have background info, I am wondering how much shorter are her inner toes, compared to normal (see attched pics)? I'm also wondering what, if anything, I can do in and out of her cage to help her. She climbs well, but has a hard time just standing on fingers and people, and she is overly causious about transferring from perch to perch.

  5. Thank you. I'll probably find a bird place to get the light. We have chain pet stores and they don't have this kind of thing in the bird areas.

  6. I think they need direct light. I use an avian sun lamp, and leave it on several hours each day. If you buy one, make sure you get the right bulb. Sometimes places will sell reptile lights and say they are fine for birds but they are not. The Avian Sun doesn't generate any heat, just both sun components (UVB and UVA I believe?). Like people, they need direct sun or a light that provides it to metabolize certain nutrients.

  7. Please be aware that we do not have an avian vet amongst our members and any advice given is based on previous personal experience. Answers and Opinions are given here but may not apply to your particular bird/birds's medical problem. If unsure GREYFORUMS.NET urges members to seek advice from a qualified avain veterinary specialist in any such circumstance. 9. Yes, all vets are not equal in the case of birds! Find an actual avian vet. My girls go to Dr. Fuller at the Ellensberg Animal Hospital in Ellensberg WA. We drive a ways to see him, but I think it is worth it!

  10. Thats what I call it, but it's a salad mix with lots of different kinds of weed looking greens. I had heard about spinach before, bit I'm glad its ok occasionally. We like to share with our birds❤

  11. What's in the dandelion mix? If it's pure veggies or greens then it will be fine. FYI: spinach should be fed sparingly, as it's been known to bind to Calcium. Small amounts on occasion are perfectly fine.

  12. Good ideas! We definitely have yams. My husband is meticulous on yard maintenance unfortunately, and if we hang a dandelion it would get sprayed before I ever noticed it😔. We do get what I call dandelion mix in the produce section of the grocery store. Is that ok? Hopefully she will like the yams. It would be great tho have something to hide other food in. She is sorting her seeds to the floor as I type... finicky girl. 😍

  13. I am a little curious about this, and what I should be doing. We have window shades open during the dayon the south and easy side of the room my girls are in. Their cages are on the north and east walls. None are in direct sunlight, but have natural light all day. Is that enough?

  14. It's a good start, and she certainly seems to be doing pretty well with trying new things! I would also throw in some cooked yams. Very rich in vitamin A, which greys, in particular, need. If you can eventually find kale, chard or dandelion greens (even those growing in your lawn can be fed to her as long as you are certain nothing's been sprayed on them), and if she doesn't touch them, then finely cut some up and incorporate it into the yams.
