  1. You must not know who Felix is. Of course you are the trainee, just look him up on Facebook and read his rantings and trainings advice...

  2. Besides members? On the menu bar at the top hit Online Users. Since folks can now browse/read without signing up the traffic is up, quite a bit. Plus by seeing the IP numbers, I can start blocking IP ranges.

  3. I had to chuckle at this section. Sure, my grey will step up on command -- even poo on command if I say (dumb choice of phrase) "Be a good boy" while holding him over paper. But that's it for his so-called "training". I find myself repeating what HE says. I find myself answering his "whatcha doing" with an actual answer (I'm reading" I'm watching a movie") as if he really understands what he's asking or even cares a whit about what I'm doing anyway! I find his loud squeaking sends ME rushing to find him his desired treat/food/toy/chewing object or to retrieve some dropped item (I am the maid here). My grey (had him 22 years) runs this house and he knows it. *I* flunked Training 101, not him. As long as he's out of his cage with toys and food available: he's happy. Me? Well... I deal. I am only thankful he doesn't bite me (because I swear if he was human, he'd probably be an abusive spouse). Sorry for chuckling, but training??? My CAG is already too smart for his own good. I think my CAG is the trainer and *I* am the trainee. [no offense for a seeming rant -- I am as sane as possible given 22 years with my CAG -- lol]

  4. Hell, I know Corky has been in charge for almost 19 years. I have always done her bidding. When Corky speaks, we listen.

  6. I agree with you, Ray. One of my greys took a dislike to my eldest son who used to speak negatively about him. Then, one day, Maalik dive bombed him when his back was turned towards him. The anger and dislike from my son towards Maalik continued to escalate the situation. Even after a few years of my son trying to repair the damage, Maalik wouldn't have any of it. Maalik likes everyone else as we do him.

  7. Folks, I'm going to give you a quick synopsis of where things stand with the board, some of it you will understand, and some of you wont depending on who you are and what your technical level is for these kind of things. These are the objective facts. I will give subjective later. 1. And foremost the name greyforums.net is not owned by ANYONE here. 2. The owner of the .net name is a really nice guy that has nothing to do with this place anymore beyond being the owner of the .net name. 3. I cleaned up the whole mess and made the database and forums work again without spyware and viruses because you guys helped me save Sukei. (And Im not looking for a thank you, just putting out facts for a determination after) 4. The database contains YEARS of experience and knowledge of members past and present, those here now and those that have passed on before us. 5. Participation has slowed to a crawl. This has everyone dealing with the site considering closing it. 6. The data on this site is INVALUABLE for our grey friends. Now with these facts in hand I can offer every tech deal there is , video posting, song boards, anything you have on your favorite sites, I can duplicate, and make it work better. Video, audio streaming anything to bring the level of participation back up here. The real question is ......and not so much for me, but for Talon, do you want to keep it going.. how important is it to you your Greys and Talon that has kept it going for all these years. Its time to consider what you have, and what you stand to loose, talk to her, let her know how you feel.

  8. I'm trying to encourage Alfie to forage more for food. It's a natural behaviour of African Grey's (and other parrots of course) and a good one to encourage as it keeps them active and makes them work that bit harder for their food. Tonight I made a foraging tray and put it on Alfie's shelves. I put some fruit and veg and other tasty morsels in the bottom of a tray then filled it up with shredded paper and foot toys. He had to root around and pull the paper and toys out before he could get to the treats. It kept him busy for quite some time. Most of it (including the food) ended up over the sofa but he seemed to enjoy digging through the tray. I have a couple of foraging toys in his cage (a buffet ball and a wheel that he has to spin and line up the holes with the treats in different compartments) and I'm thinking of putting a tray at the bottom of his cage for him to forage in. I'm also toying with the idea of getting some bird safe plants and putting them in his cage (whilst supervised) so he can dig through those and pull them apart. I just need to be a little bit careful because I also have two cats- so I would have to make sure they either can't get at the plants or that they are cat safe as well as bird safe as my two cats get into everything! (they are indoor cats) Do you provide foraging opportunities for your birds? If so, what do you set up for them?

  9. To watch a Grey live and react to life as things happen and change around them is something very awesome. They seam to understand life at our level when it comes to life changing events with in their circle of life. They are so much like us when it comes to who they like and who they dislike. Can they read our minds ? I believe they read our body language and know out thoughts as Corky will like and dislike the same people I do, and that was true with the wife and son. How does your grey react in your circle of life ?

  14. I'm still running into a few issues that need to be worked out. Biggest problem is when you use a customized skin, you run into all kinda flakey cache issues. When I have hammered it to death, Ill put the how to together. In the mean time you cant hurt anything if you want to mess with it.

  17. I played around, but could only figure out uploading videos through the 'choose files' interface. But I know that's not correct.

  18. You can drop videos into posts with the extension, but they wont show in a centralized section, and posts eventually fall off the radar. I was hoping I can get this to where the videos are "Hosted" and can be used anyplace you want to slap a share link. It is also easier to find everything in a concentrated area. Some of those wanting to go a step further can also set up web cams/ live cams. Also hoping that after a few videos got shared here and there, the watermark (haven't activated it yet) would draw some new membership. I'm still working with some issues related to the skin. Be a lot easier using the default IPB skin. Cool video

  19. I’ll put a how to together later, but it’s straight forward, punch the upload button and fill in the info.

  20. Well, it seems stable enough, that bald eagle momma been running all day. I did a test upload with android and pc, and I contacted the author, said no auto thumbnail, but I can run a sequence later to generate them, Go ahead and try it if you want, the only thing that might change is the formatting, the video will remain. Oh and IOS is a no go because Chrome and Firefox won’t handle .mov, might be away around that, I’ll keep at it.

  21. For the most part, Timber surprises me with his likes and dislikes. My youngest son is his favorite, and he has little interest in Timber. My husband, who messes with him all the time, is tolerated but also most likely to be bitten. I will say that my son's friend, that isn't a favorite of mine, is probably Timber's most disliked person. When he comes in, Timber will go to his seed bowl and start tossing seed on the floor. I only see this behavior when Josh is in the room.

  22. The GreyForums is the truth behind the care and raising if not only the African Grey parrot but also all parrots who grace these pages and enrich our lives so much. Truth is found here. We will try to post weekly.

  23. I think it's time that I give you and the members of this great forum an explanation of my absence over the last two years or so. It started with a very ill wife who passed away on Valentines day 2018 and than her younger sister in Dec. of 2018 followed by her older sister in May this year. We lost Willie our cockatiel at age believe it or not at age 27 followed by 5 very good friends and two of our dachshund one of old age and one unexpected.. I have a 44 year old special needs child that still lives with me that we adopted when he was 14 months old. I have not had much time to post but I check in to see what's going on. And than there is Corky my awesome Grey that has kept me going who will be 19 in Dec. of this year. I will make every effort to start posting again to keep this forum alive. KevinD you are doing a great job with this forum and I will do my best to step up as a member to support this Grey Forum.

  25. My view is that folks do come here and read just not posting. I haven't had much to say it has been a very hectic time for our family. I will make an effort to participate more often there are enough birds here to have material to share. This is a great resource and our Greys only benefit from what we can learn from each other. Thank you ILeo for all you have done.

  26. I'll still choose Avian Avenue over the Parrot Forum. And you're right about the FB forums. Many people are cocked and loaded to ream out others over there. Still searching for the best FB ones worthy of my time. I do participate in the FB grey group that you, SRSeedBurners, are also a participant.

  27. I check the forum multiple times daily - almost always nothing new. Have tried to drag a few people here that, like me, get tired of the Facebook drama in those groups with tens-of-thousands 'members'. I've never successfully gotten anyone to come here. Facebook has managed to kill off a lot of forums. They can't kill off things like Maxima.org because the knowledge base is too huge and FB can't compete with the search-ability to find content that people rely on to diagnose and fix their vehicle. Another of my favorites, Caique site, went under a few years ago. The Caique FB groups are nothing compared to what was buried in the forum. AvianAvenue is still going strong but I get tired of the mamby-pamby over there so don't go much. Would hate to see this place go but there's also not much going on here either.

  28. This forum probably saved Timber's life. I was such an "idiot" when I got him, with no clue as to how to handle him or what to do. I would sure hate to lose it. I have no idea why participation has slowed to a crawl or why new people don't stay. I know people come here when they panic, then leave when they have their answer. I don't post often because nothing has changed here at my house. However, I do check the forum almost daily to see if anyone has posted.

  29. It would be sad, but I completely understand why it's necessary to consider making changes to this forum. New members only briefly remain which leaves me wondering why people aren't staying. Is it because it's so quiet? Is it because something needs tweaking? Marketing possibilities? I guess much will depend upon where Talon's heart and passions lie.

  30. I would be sad to see the forums close down because there is a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in the archives. It would be a real shame to lose everything that people have put into this place over the years- especially as some of them are sadly no longer with us. However, I understand that it is a large undertaking to keep a website/forum running. I also understand that this can seem like a totally thankless task when hardly anyone shows up and posts any more. I enjoy keeping up to date with everyone's birds and I would be sad to lose that connection with the people here. Is there a way to archive the data on the forums and make it searchable? Is there some way that this can be moved to another communications platform where we can still add to it and communicate with each other (for those that are left?) I don't even know what platform would be the best to use. Yes there is facebook where you could make a page or a group. But is that the best format? Would everyone move across? Are there other platforms available which are less taxing in terms of management and maintenance?
