Hi Jojo1! First of all, welcome! And thank you for reaching out to adopt this deserving grey! There are a lot of great cages on the market. But first I'd find out if she has a tendency to fall off her perch with her seizure activity, as that would determine how tall of a cage I'd get. Or, you could get a tall cage and place her perches lower until you figure out how things go for her. I have 2 prevue Hendrix cages; one for my CAG, and one for my macaw. It's a tall cage: https://prevuepet.com/product/642/empire-large-bird-cage-3157 but it works great for all their hanging toys. My CAGs love to swing and dangle from their toys. A fresh diet will be vital, but may take your new baby awhile to transition over to it. Here is a great article dealing with teas for our birds. Perhaps there will be a blend that will help with seizure activity: https://birdtalksubscribe.com/blogs/news/why-tea-is-so-great-for-parrots I mentioned this FB forum to another new member, Joannie, here, which has great information for feeding your baby a healthy raw diet. It's a closed group, so you'll have to request access to it: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AVIANRAW/?ref=bookmarks If you join, please go to their 'files' to read all about sprouting, raw diets and avian teas. First and foremost, I would make certain your grey begins receiving foods rich in vitamin A. They are prone to becoming A deficient. Yams and sweet potatoes are great for that. Also, red palm oil is awesome for them. Greys are very slow to warm up to people, with some taking months to years to fully acclimate to their new caregiver. Patience is everything! Looking forward to reading all about your new baby!3 points

She's only 4 months old and I was wandering when she goes through her first molt do you think this feather will always grow back pink/red? I think it's mega cute haha! I hope it stays sorry she was also chewing up a note from my doctor while I was typing this question haha! who needs a shredder when u have an African Grey 😂2 points

Adopting a Grey and want to be ready. She is 20 yrs. old. One toe missing. Has been in a shelter. She is very nervous. Does not want to be touched. Has had seizures. I have had a Mccaw few years ago. So I know the basics. But I am buying a new cage and want to get the right one first time. And I will start from scratch on letting this bird get use to me first before I move to other issues. I want to focus on health feeding and finding out if maybe vitamin diff. on the seizures the bird has been tested and no know cause. If you have any pointers on cage size brand. Food vitamins Please help.2 points

Me either! Although I don't encourage bad words..I was proud of my sons comeback to her! Even the vet said that was inappropriate & completely wrong to say. Hopefully that employee will get a talking to...you don't say that to someone until & unless a Dr has seen Ollie.2 points

The cage you suggested is really nice. I found it on-line at Tractor Supply for 399.00 Best Price.2 points

If your bird is having seizures make sure you have her under an avian vet's care, that said it will just take time for her to become comfortable in her new to her home. It is understandable she is nervous and is wary of you but that will change but it may take lots of time and patience on your part to allow her to go at her own pace, this could take weeks, months or even years but it will be well worth it. A grey's trust has to be earned and since she has been without the love and attention she deserves it will be slow to come.2 points

Chances are it will molt out but then you never know, my 12 year old grey never had any red factor feathers until this year when she grew a couple on her neck, they are still there but likely will molt out, I wouldn't worry about it.2 points

Hi everyone, some of you may remember, my son has a Congo African grey, he’s a big guy. Ollie is his name. There was an accident yesterday and his foot was pinned by the weight of a heavy door. My son called me and sent me pics of the cut, which was difficult to see. It didn’t look to bad. Fast forward to last night at 9pm, my ex husband called and asked if they should drive him to the emergency hospital Tufts 2 hours away, I said I could say I hadn’t seen Ollie, so I went over and it’s bad..my first guess is he will lose his foot. I lent my car to my son who drove to the hospital last night. They admittedly Ollie to put him on pain meds and keep him comfortable until the Zoology team gets in today. The girl there told my son he had a compund fracture, the bone was sticking out, but it was probably too difficult to fix, it didn’t look good and he should probably be euthanized...to which my son told her to F#ck off. So we’re waiting until around 10 am to see the next step...please pray for Ollie..the bill for last night was $1500 to admit him... I can only imagine the cost of this, but you can't put a price on a loved family member. 😥1 point

Help needed again. I am thinking. I will prob need different feeding cups. Any good suggestions on this. On where to buy. All I find is really small ones and I would like something better than what comes with the cage I see it making a big mess.1 point

I also ordered a starter package from Tops hope this will be a good diet and she likes it. I noticed the shelter she is in uses Tops. So now I think I am ready in a few weeks as soon as my cage and toys come in.1 point

Glad Ollie isn't going to lose the foot or his life! We've had some close calls here too involving doors. Can never be too careful.1 point

This is such great news! When I read they were discussing euthanizing him, I just couldn't believe that.1 point

Yes, it's a great one! Lots of room for your new baby to roam, swing and play in. That's a really great price, too!1 point

Thank you! The vet just called, they said they can fix the break, a bar with pins for several weeks, then eventually removal of it. She also said that if a Bird is going to break a bone, it will always be their foot, its the most delicate & easily broken bone on a bird. So surgery tomorrow, then home to recoup. the cost will be just over $2000, xrays, blood work ,sedation & the operation.1 point

You never know with the red feathers. Timber has a couple that he has had since I got him, so I'm assuming they are permanent. I call then his "beauty marks"1 point

Hello & Welcome to our family! What a beauty she is! Thanks for the pics, we love them! Can't wait to hear more about her!!1 point

Hello Tali and welcome to our family. You have an adorable baby grey, I love those dark eyes they have and you will be more able to tell about possible bites when those eyes change to light rings around the pupil as they reveal a lot about their intentions. Even though she gets along with your cat I would supervise all time they spend together for it only takes a second for something bad to happen and cat saliva can be fatal for a grey so don't take chances.1 point

Hello and welcome to you and Tali! I'm a rehomer so haven't had baby experience, but she's beautiful1 point

CAGS learn to say words later than TAGs. So by around a year they usually start sounding out words. When Fynn turned 5 months old, that's when an entire barrage of sounds, whistles and clicks came out of him!1 point

These posts are so funny...(Maggie here)...Joe learned the high-pitched alarm sound that Jay's oxygen concentrator makes when it is in alarm mode. Now, (I know he does this just to mess with me), he will occasionally make this alarm sound, usually when I am somewhere else and he gets a kick out of seeing me run back in the room to see is there is a problem with Jay's oxygen...a few times he even lets out a little chuckle (evil, Joe, really evil...)1 point
