  1. Hmmm. Wonder if they're not available in NZ. Look up Aviatar harnesses. This one is in the states: https://www.amazon.com/AVIATOR-Pet-Bird-Harness-Leash/dp/B003SLODAG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1543115189&sr=8-2&keywords=aviator+harness+for+cockatiel Only you'd want one designed for greys.

  2. Welcome Tali! One recommendation I have for you is that you begin harness training your baby while she's young. That way, if you should decide on letting her have her wings back, you can then take her everywhere outside with you via harness. Once they're older they don't readily accept the harness. Babies are snuggly! I have a 7 month old baby plus 2 other adult CAGS.

  3. Hi all! I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and my amazing new baby girl Tali! I think she's just so amazing I had to share her with y'all we live in New Zealand, not a lot of greys in my area so I'm hopeful to find this community as somewhere I can get advice, ideas or just boast about how cute I think Tali is haha! Tali is only 4 months old and I have had her for about 10 days haha! She's a real snuggle bug! Is that normal lol (see pics)? She had her wings clipped when I got her, so we enjoy going outside and watering the vegi garden together and getting some sun (when it's not raining haha) im still in two minds as to if I am a fan of clipped wings or not... but it is nice being able to have the door open and walk around with her on my shoulder. She actually gets along with my cat really well... the cats name is Lexi, they are very respectful of each other and are always supervised if out together so no need to worry y'all! 😊

  4. CAGS learn to say words later than TAGs. So by around a year they usually start sounding out words. When Fynn turned 5 months old, that's when an entire barrage of sounds, whistles and clicks came out of him!

  5. What age can greys start to mimic sounds? I'm not worried about her talking but I'm already hearing some strange sounds that she makes when she wants my attention 😆 they are not her normal chit chatting cheeps and I wonder if it's the kisses sounds cos I smother her with kisses lol or if I'm just imagining/hoping

  8. Hi all im a new member so I’m very happy to have found this forum. I’ll be getting my African grey in two weeks and I’m having questions regarding their diet. I know the food they can and can’t eat. I also know their diet consists of pellets veggies, moderate nuts , moderate seeds and fruits. I know it’s 75% of pellets 20-25% of veggies and fruits and 5% of treats(nuts, seeds). However, I’m wondering how many times a day I should give her veggies and how many fruits she can eat. Can she eat one entire banana or should I just cut in half and give her the half? How many sun flower needs should I give her and how many almonds ? I guess it’s one almond a day? I read I could give her a plate of veggies and fruits in the morning and one hour before going to sleep then give her treats throughout the day. Is this correct? Thanks a lot and sorry for asking lots of questions but I want to know how to feed her so I don’t make mistakes.

  10. Welcome to the forum. You are definitely on the right track with the best intentions in mind for your amazing companion joining your life soon. think it’s also important to remember that this is not an exact science and you will soon see our greys have rather strong opinions about food (and life in general) which needs to be incooperated. hopefully yours will be used to or willing to eat pellets, otherwise that’s the first challenge. Sprouting sunflower seeds makes them much more nutritious btw and is quite easy. ours have access to Harrison Pellets all the time (course red label type), and get veg/fruit in the morning, but they are picky. Ours have a sweet tooth and prefer apples, pears, melon while green veggies not so much. good luck and remember report back now it goes with a pic or two. 🙂

  11. Hi, My African Grey Parrot Sammy is 34 years old. I have had him since he was 4 months old. His diet has consisted of Harrison's and ZuPreem pellets, fruits, vegetables, eggs, chicken, cheese and seeds & walnuts for treats. Sammy's diet has had a drastic change since this last March when he showed signs of nausea, low energy and very yellow droppings. His white face even had a tinge of yellow. Our veterinarian believes that Sammy has liver disease. He has been on 2 rounds of antibiotics and went through a 5 part series of X-rays with contrast. The tests showed some atherosclerosis and the liver was slightly enlarged and smooth in appearance. He no longer is given any animal protein, less fresh fruits & veggies, and his only treat with fat is a pinch of flax seeds. He now eats lots of Harrison's pellets. He drinks lots & lots of water. We encourage him to fly for us for some exercise. We bought the last bottle of Milk thistle/ dandelion detox for parrots from "Avitech". Sammy has been on 2 drops twice a day for about 3 weeks. He has improved, but is is still not himself. I wonder if Sammy will need this supplement long term. Does anyone have experience with a milk thistle product and dosage that can be recommended for birds since Avitech is no longer in production? Thank You, Joannie & Sammy Birdie p.s. I would especially love to hear from Greywings High Flyer

  12. Hi Joannie, Welcome to the forum! While I don't have direct experience with liver disease, I do have 2 place that you could look for some great answers. First, if you are on FB, there's a closed group that deals with raw nutrition, sprouting and the use of teas. It's called: Avian Raw Whole Food. Solid nutritional support for our feathered friends. There is a website that sells teas specifically blended for our avian babies. Unfortunately they sell out of everything all the time, so you might want to reach out to them to see when this tea is back in stock: https://greywoodmanor.com/products/clean-and-pure It should be a great one for your Sammy. If you haven't yet been on Avian Avenue, that forum has a lot of members whose birds are currently in liver failure. You might want to check them out, too. It's very sad that the owner of Avitech died so suddenly, leaving no plans in place for the company to move forward in her absence. With that being said, I'm also confident that Greywings will be of tremendous help, too!
