  1. We are a little worried about Howardine (kittykittykitty) ......for a long time, we have been in daily contact with her. Her health has not been the best and the last time we have heard from her was August 1st.....and the last time she posted on the forum was July 14th. She has been a regular member since June 25, 2008. . Can we send prayers her way? Oh Lord, Our God in Heaven, please bless her and watch over her. Amen, Rev. Jay and Maggie Any kudos belongs to Howardine

  2. Hello all - I’m the paranoid parrot owner like I’m sure a lot of you are. Just looking to see if this amount of feather loss is normal in just a few days. I’ve just in the last year adopted two 17-20 year old greys and have constantly been concerned about the possibility of plucking. Sorry about the messy photo, she just got done tearing some Romain and corn apart.

  3. Looks like a molt to me as well. Daylight length changes and they respond, some of our flock are in molt.

  7. Huey used to be nervous outside of his cage. Unfortunately (not really!) for him, we're a cage-less house except for nighty-night time and he just had to deal with it. It didn't take him but a few months till he was flying around and acting like the place was his - particularly his swingy rope in the kitchen where he now commands his ship, orders the chef around etc... Huey tends to bite, usually only me as he prefers the ladies, when I try to put him on his rope perches. He'll step up and immediately take a swipe a my hand. He's got me a few times at the base of the thumb and ripped me open good. He's super naughty that way. I quickly learned to make him step up to the rope, never step back, because then his rope is between him and my hand. I can pull down and back and he can't get me although he's learned to hang onto me with one foot and can still get me occasionally. We've had him 9 months now and I'm just now getting to the point where he will let me pet him down the back (he doesn't take it as sexual with me at least) and give him a kiss on the beak and give him a hug. 9 long months!

  8. He could have munched on those after the fact. Mine like to use molted feathers as back scratchers! They also like to chew on the tips afterwards.

  9. Most of the shafts of the feathers that I’ve seen are fine, there were two that looked a bit rough on the ends almost as if they’d been chewed off or chewed on but I’m just not sure. I guess only time will tell.

  10. You can tell by looking at the feather's shaft as to whether it was barbed off or not. If the tips look chewed, and you know he didn't chew them after the fact, then likely it's plucking. The tips from those feathers at the top of your picture look like they were naturally molted. Do you see any bald areas on his body? I'm thinking that it's likely a heavy molt.

  11. I’m up in Minnesota. Seems to be plenty of humidity right now. I’ve always been a bit worried about her in particular as she was cage bound for almost twenty years. She made very quick progress when she moved in with me but had a slight setback when JoJo was adopted but overall she is still making progress and then I see these feathers down on the bottom of the cage. It’s just freaking me out. Thank you for the help guys.

  12. Not sure where in the world you are located but my female Grey has just started losing feathers in bulk. I guess she's molting as she's not a plucker. We have full feathers all over the place suddenly like what's in your photo.
