  1. Add in three parts crazy with a 10-pack of 31,000,000,000 mAh rechargeable batteries and you have a Caique! I was reading your description and was thinking, all of that sounds just like a Caique with the exception: they do no respect self-confidence one little bit, they are not easy to train. I had a BFA with my first set of birds when I was 19+. His name was Tigger and he was probably my least favorite bird. I assume now that he was a wild-caught as he just never tamed down, was always growly but I still handled him. He rode on my beach bike along the California coast line with me, he loved that. He also was the only bird I've ever had that went absolutely nutters when any spray bottle or water hose came his way. Our Caique is a little like that when he's in the mood. Tigger was always in the mood to get soaked. I recall he was a chatter-bug, nothing intelligable though. He did mimic the cry of my daughter to a 'T' and also did the car alarm and backup beeps with perfection. I considered getting another one before we exploded to 6 birds but I just don't really mesh with that breed. For some reason I have a very strong pull for Greys and Conures. I love those two. 3. Haahaa...you'll have to get in line! GreycieMae needs decorative window bars on her aviary to keep teenagers out and airflow in! I've had no less than 10 welders out here to look at the job and provide a quote. Not one welder ever calls me back. Looks like I'm going to end up doing this myself too. Good thing I'm certified in TIG and SMAW welding. Here's what I know about these companies (plumbing/electric/etc) that you hire to do stuff for you: they're all about making money as fast as possible with cheap labor. Our foundation lift was done by a crew of non-English speakers. They totally screwed me and I'm now paying the price. A few years ago we had Baker Brothers plumbing, a very well known, highly advertised company, come here and repair a water line in our bathroom that I didn't have time to mess with. Their fix leaked and within a year destroyed the wall and the studs before I knew what was going on. So I repaired that whole thing myself including re-doing their plumbing job. I don't trust any company. It's why I do most things myself. Especially mechanic work on our cars. No way in hell I'm letting those shitbags touch our cars.

  5. Living with a Congo Grey and a Blue fronted Amazon is an education of extremes. They are so different yet so much alike. Amazons like to be in charge and this is where you need to find a happy ground. They are known to for their unpredictable mood swings from nice to devil. Amazons do have respect for a person with self confidence. If you show fear they will be in charge. If you try to bully them they can and do retaliate. You need to meet them half way before you can start to build a relationship, after that comes respect. Respect is some thing you have to earn just like any other parrot only with a zon that mutual respect can and will be the foundation of your relationship. Amazons can and are unpredictable to a point, They are also said to be the easiest parrot to train. They are masters of body language. They know by your body language if you have self confidence and their body language will tell what`s on their mind. With a zon your self confidence, respect and socialization of your zon leads to trust. It`s a two way street for both of you that can lead to your time together being some thing that goes far beyond what you ever expected. I love my Grey Corky with all my heart and I miss Cricket my zon the same way They are each their own so love them for who they are.

  9. Who are we? We'll we're members of the Grey Forms. Why are we here? We'll we're here to learn, share, have questions of concerns answered (hopefully answered). Why else? Ah, to teach, to pass on knowledge and things we learned, to comfort our member friends and share photos and life.. Every member has knowledge to pass on and experiences to share.. There are some members who have so much to offer, yet we never hear from them, it's sad, they have so much to offer. I see hours, sometimes days go by before a question might be answered..I don't want to be a "lookie-loo" or the few "contributors". Take a minute to say "Hi" even if you don't have a answer..Your combined knowledge could power the world..All you older members, I could post wonderful and helpful posts you've made, why not instead give a couple minutes of your time to pass on your help to others? Remember when you first joined the Forum? and some one reached out to help you....you're ALL needed. Okay, my soapbox just broke...Rev. Jayd

  10. Thank you Jayd and Ray for this thread. You are absolutely correct! I will put my brain to good use and come up with a new thread. With 3 parrots, I have lots to share.

  12. Looks fantastic! It is great that you were able to do the repairs yourself too. My husband and I do the same if it's within our capability. That one would have been more than we could handle, at our current age.

  13. Yeah no doubt Alfie will find his way up there too. I'll probably position food/water up there so it's easy for him to get too. We deliberately bought the wood with the bark on the edges so he has something to destroy too, so again it's multipurpose for Alfie and the cats.

  14. To teach, support and encourage, to share the good and the bad, to listen, be happy and cry with and for our extended family. A feather brought us together, and it was a red one at that.

  15. A better update: A busted sewer, two corroded main valves from years of sitting in water and an electrical conduit that was pulled out of the wall and compromised, all due to a foundation lift we had done 10-15 years ago. Multiple plumbing companies were quoting me $4-$5K to fix this mess - to hell with that, I did it my damn self. I can't believe how much these idiots get paid to sweat pipe and put rubber collars on. I should be a plumber/electrician and make some bank. My neighbor ran a plumbing business and these days it's as if he is printing money in his garage. A pic of the repairs, plus I added a new 'garden valve' so I can have water inside GreycieMae's section of the unit. - repaird sewer line - brand new electrical conduit, wall unit and re-wired - new main valve - repaired water line that goes to our barn A couple of pics of the area after I finished the repairs, completed the dig-out of the clay and hauled in the three remaining loads of crushed granite. It all had to come in through a window, into a wheel barrow and hauled into place. You can see the 2K lumen area lights I installed in the second pic. I put three in GreycieMae's section, one in the Middle's (Toby & Rio's area) and one in the Little's section (Tinkerbell & Stevie). And when the work is done, there's always time to stop and smell the roses. GreycieMae has two rose bushes growing in her aviary.

  16. OMG, thank God your fids are okay! I'm so sorry to hear Sterling Gris plucked after this frightening experience. I, too, believe he'll come around in time. Greys take such a long time to get over things that caused them to become stressed.

  20. Thanks for making me smile with the fly up order window. Are you leaving that window open to the house or screen it so she has to stay in the aviary?

  25. It all looks so amazing. I'm so excited that I'm going to be putting an aviary out in my garden this year (when the weather gets a little warmer, that is!) I already have a cargo net and a rather large hanging bridge to put in there. I need to build up more supplies to put in there when it's done. It's going to be 12ft long by 6ft wide by 6ft tall. Have always wanted something like that for Alfie and now I'm finally going to be able to do it!
