  1. This sounds like the exact behavior we get from our Caique - Toby. He likes some people and then 'small' people are on his shit list and marked for destruction. Toby will fly at them with full fury and evil in his eyes. I'm not sure if this behavior is prevalent in Greys but it's sure what it sounds like. Greycie exhibits a similar behavior towards Toby because she cant stand him. Fly straight at him and try her best to knock him off his perch or grab him and beat the feathers off of him. It would be nice if you could possibly get a video of the behavior. How to curb the behavior and allow Brutus to begin to accept the the son is beyond me. I would definitely be grooming the son not to take it personally and to see if there is some way he can interact with Brutus safely outside the bubble of Brutus' favorite flock mates. If the son starts to resent Brutus you've got bigger problems.

  2. We are lucky to live in San Diego where I am able to roll the bird cages outside on most days. There is nothing like real outdoor exposure the natural sunlight to give birds the rays necessary to make Vitamin D3. This is a vitamin that acts more like a hormone and i call it "birdie Valium" it mellows them out. Regular sunlight stopped my bird from mistreating his feathers and from having seizures. Vitamin D3 is necessary for helping healthy nervous system function and lack of it can cause seizures. Giving your bird regular trips outside is one of the best things you can do to have a happy and healthy bird.

  3. Timbersmom summed it up perfectly- a lot of greys do not like change and it can take them some time to adapt. Each grey is different. I've heard stories of grey's who wouldn't accept their owners because they were wearing glasses, or changed their hair... though those are probably more extreme cases. In regards to toys, I always show Alfie any new toys from a distance. I normally buy a few toys at a time so I take each one out of the box and hold it up for him to see (from a distance). I then see how he reacts before moving a bit closer with it. If he's feeling brave then he may 'beak' it to check it out(touch the toy with his beak). Or if he's unsure he will back off. I always try and sound excited when showing him new things, especially if he is unsure. This has resulted in Alfie learning to go 'OoooOooo!'. Now when he's unsure of something and checking it out he says 'OoooOoo!' because thats the noise I make when trying to get him to look at something new. You have to do things at a pace your parrot is comfortable with. I am lucky because Alfie will accept things reasonably quickly. I normally leave new toys laying around the room for a few days and move them closer and closer until he's ready for them to go in his cage. Sometimes I have to hang them outside the cage for a day or two before he's happy it's not going to kill him!

  4. I hope you can help me. My boyfriend and his 15-year-old have lived with me for the last five months. Brutus likes my boyfriend, but lately, he has started to fly at his son. If Tyler is doing dishes and has his back turned Brutus tries to fly at him. One time it looked like Brutus' mouth was open like he wanted to bite him. If Brutus sees Tyler outside he acts frantic with his wings quivering and tries to fly at the window. Does he dislike him or does he like him? It seems aggressive to me. This is a very bad state of affairs and we have no idea what to do. We absolutely do not know what to do. Please give us some advice.

  6. I have a Tag and a Cag both of which are flighted. The Tag is two years older than the Cag. When I got my Cag he was still eating his evening formula. Ana Grey, tag, sat with us at the table when I handfed Sterling Gris, cag. Ana Grey would finish off the formula after Sterling Gris was full. When Sterling Gris was younger, Ana Grey would feed him food and I believe he believes she is his Mom. Although he is at least twice her size he follows her around like a puppy. They are bonded with Ana Grey being the boss and Sterling Gris the follower. Each grey is different, I consider myself quite lucky that my greys get along.

  7. It is so weird, just this morning Tyler was rubbing Brutus' beak with no problem (I wasn't there). This aggressive behavior seems to happen at night. What is different is we are all sitting together. Brutus may be thinking Tyler is competition or something. My boyfriend, Dave, he loves though! Dave and I are always hugging and smooching and Brutus has no problem with it. So this makes no sense. For peace's sake, we are installing a temporary tension rod and curtain panels between the kitchen/office (where they are) and the living room (where we eat dinner). Problem is Brutus will probably just hop down on the floor and stroll in. Oh well, we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Maybe tension rods on the floor and the ceiling with curtain panel threaded in both. My boyfriend's son, Tyler, is 6 feet one inch tall, and it seemed to happen overnight, so he is no small kid. Last night Brutus probably flew at Tyler 5-6 times. Poor Tyler. He seems to take it in stride though.

  10. Hi, it sounds to me like he is just calling for someone or some attention...Put a small cardboard box in his cage to give him something to chew on. He needs attention...sit down by the cage and read a book out loud to him. I doesn't matter what...get a chunk of carrot and put it between the cage bars. Leave a couple of small food dishes in there for him. Did he have a mate or another bird with him when you got him?
