  2. Great to hear from you again. I was getting fearful that you were dropping off the forums like so many do. I love reading these long-going threads, I always look forward to seeing them pop-up. Sorry to hear about your niece.

  3. I am hoping things are getting back to normal again. (well as close to normal as our life can be anyway). I am really not sure if I have written what has been really going on. It has been a very tough few months. A week before our friend moved in, our beautiful niece killed herself. It made us understand why, after the long struggle to buy this home and despite all the odds against us we got. It was so we could be here for Pats brother and wife when they needed us. We got a call on Oct 2nd asking for that help. It has been a whirlwind ever since. All the kids on the rodeo team were and still are just incredible. The did a tribute for Olivia at the last rodeo where her boyfriend rode her horse out during the opening and then when barrel racing started, her best friend walked her horse out and walked the barrels in her honor. This is how they retire a horse and show respect to the fallen rider. Most beautiful thing I have ever seen. As for the birdies, they have been less than happy with us gone so much. They may rethink those feelings one day when I do get back to the full swing of being here for them and annoying them with my constant attention. lol Bongo is back in the main rooms with us again so he has gotten a little bit less mad at me. Not much but I will take a little. Frito is still an angel, except the biting. We had a great thing going but then with the mayhem around us, she has gotten nippy with me. This too shall pass

  4. Maggie/Spock here...The other day, I made Jay his favorite tofu scramble with spinach, mushrooms, finely chopped celery and carrots, and finely chopped tofu and since I was running behind, I fed our fids some of this too for their hot meal with brown rice on the side. Joe was so excited and dived into his plate and took a big bite, lifted his head with his mouth wide open, let the food fall out of his mouth, shook his head to get rid of the rest of the food, reared his head back and looked at me as if saying "What the HELL was that????".... Then he flew away and turned his back to me...ROLOL...I tried to make peace by offering him some scrambled egg but he just gave me the evil eye...I wasn't going to fool HIM twice!

  5. This happens to be one of my absolutely favorite photos. My wife and I both noticed that with the roof on and the windows installed, it feels kind of like being in the Colorado mountains for some reason?!? Whatever, it feels different in the 'room' now and Miss GreycieMae is going to love it! She's going to have her own personal little jungle!

  6. Windows are installed! The 12ft sliding glass door is going to be one of the last things we put on. Don't want to bust that thing moving stuff in and out. That would suck!

  7. At the rate I'm going, I should be done by NEXT Christmas! The tie-in for the roof is done on both sections, this was a very difficult piece and has taken for dang'd ever. Now the professional roofer can come in and do the easy-peasy part, shingle it. Shingleing onto the panels will be tricky but he says he knows how to do it so I'm not worrying about that part. You can also see we have all but two of the 'Solar Grey' panels installed. We need some parts before we can do the ends so that's on hold for now. Remember, a GreybieGrey needs Solar Grey panels

  8. So cute. I have a cardboard crazy grey as well. He can make quite a mess in a short time. Glad it's not raining down on my head!

  13. Roof ramping to complete the tie-in between the house and the aviary is almost complete. We're looking at a couple samples of the the corrugated paneling we are going to use. This stuff is called 'SunTuf' and has a 15 year hail damage warranty. So it should standup to some abuse. We have clear (90% light transmission) and a solar grey (35% light transmission). We're thinking of going with the solar grey because of the brutal summers here. And a nice closeup of how we're doing the tie-in:

  16. Oh it's definitely his shelf. I clear the shelves of all my things and put his boxes up there before he comes out. Otherwise my stuff gets thrown across the room! I have thought about hanging some toys around the shelves too - haven't gotten round to it yet because he's pretty content with just shredding boxes up there. He has a tree and toys the other side of the room on my desk so he flies over to that when he wants to beat the living snot out of something!

  17. My greys like either my cabinet doors, my lamp shades, boings or me. Come to think it they perch wherever they choose! Who's the boss around here anyway!!!

  18. Yeah, this is designed so that I can leave them in it while at work. The walls are house-grade, sitting on a poured concrete curbing with rebar and piers. The walls will be made from hardie board (a concrete slab made to look like a board and paintable). The windows are tempered glass and will be reinforced on the outside with wire panels similar to what is on my current aviary, probably smaller holes though. The roof is being made with cedar similar to a deck but will be topped with 15year hail proof corrugated panels. We're still trying to decide if we want some sun to come through. THinking of making part of the long run partially blocked from the sky with full opaque panels and the rest in solar grey (75% blockage). So during the day when we're not there the thing will be sealed and locked up tight, dogs in the yard and a camera feed on my other monitor at work. Oh...and the great thing, when I'm tired of their b.s., I can toss them out of any one of three windows or the back door and get some sanity back for a bit. I designed the doors to open flat and allow a channel through the whole unit so it's kind of like a 18'x100' aviary with the interior doors open.
