Sounds like our place - lots of critters. One of my worst fears is coming home and my house has burnt down with the birds inside. Pics of all the critters!

Thoughts on "Should have more than one bird"
SRSeedBurners replied to Lupine's topic in The GREY Lounge
The yellow tail threw me. I couldn't find a bird with a yellow tail to make a guess. QB Conures definitely have a yellow tail! -
Posting here is really a reach, but we're trying to find a baby Jardine's somewhere. I guess it's the wrong time of year or they're really dang hard to find. If you've seen one, or heard of one - post up. We're on a couple of wait lists but not looking promising.

New shower and table top perch
SRSeedBurners replied to KimKim's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Nice work. My only suggestion on the shower perch is to use it inverted before your Grey decides the suctions cups make great chew toys. -
Where did this come from? Oops first pic answered my question. Avian Organics!

My bird LOVES my husband, me not so much :(
SRSeedBurners replied to Keri's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Everytime Dan uses 'love muffin' I have to giggle. -
I read somewhere that even older, when the bird is naturally ready to part ways and find new beginnings is the best time to get a grey. What age that was slips by me but I seem to recall it was older than 'months' - so maybe it was a year or so. Maybe even just on the other side of the terrible twos? Either way, mine is 11mos and she's still exhibiting baby behavior but also showing new adult behaviors as well. I think as long as the Grey hasn't been mishandled you shouldn't have any excess baggage.

Bird-safe Toy Making Supplies
SRSeedBurners replied to SullysMom's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Interestingly, I took BaileysPapa's advice to Amazon and the first thing that popped up was a toy making kit will a lot of the stuff you need all-in-one. -
I had forgotten about leather as Dan mentions. Our little Raven loved leather strips with knots tied in them and also the leather squares/circles etc(for lack of a better description). I need to find a place that sells it because we've take to hanging toys off of the tree with cotton string and leather is a lot safer for that purpose.

Technically we fall into category "4. Four to Six parrots". But based on a nice loophole that my high-powered loophole finders found, we only fall into category 3 as we officially don't claim the two that my daughter takes care of. <wrings dust off hands>. I've also found that birds are different from dogs, cats, kids etc. There's a saying in the dog world that goes something similar to - you always love your own dog, others, not so much. With me that's really apt with kids too. I generally don't prefer other peoples dogs, kids and sometimes cats. However, I've found I really like other peoples birds. Must be a bird person.

Stop Screaming Polly Product Please!
SRSeedBurners replied to lovethatgrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
Wow...the sight is disabled with a message now. Seems the petition has reached it's intended target. -
Toby He's around 6mos old. We had him DNA'd but definitely wasted our money there...we knew it would come back "HE'S ALL BOY". Greycie is not to thrilled with him at the moment but they're slowly getting better. We picked him up almost 1 month ago, kept him for two weeks, then returned him to the breeder on an arrangement to board him while we went on vacation. She was really attached to him because apparently "he's a real sweety". I'm guessing based on her knowledge and experience with Caiques that this little guy is kinda special. I'm not letting my guard down though...I fully expect a little feather-pants monster to emerge at some point. Greycie tried exerting herself with him but he's fearless and stands his ground. With his strong little legs he doesn't let go of his perch easily so she's having a hard time flopping him to the ground like she used to do with Raven - until we put a stop to that. Now she's the one hitting the deck, except she can fly so she doesn't actually hit the deck. But he's winning these little attacks. He loves to sit on shoulders and gently nibble ear lobes, or in the case with my wife, wind himself up in her hair. He's a real chatter-box. Does a lot of cute whistles. Greycie has picked up nearly everything he does including the annoying Caique alarm call. He much prefers to be hauled around with you and sit on your hand rather than be perched. He's clipped unfortunately but I believe he had learned to fly as he attempts to launch himself but then flutters to the ground. We'll let his feathers grow out. Greycie's turkey is cooked when that happens We still miss our Raven dearly but are already falling head over heels with this little guy. We're still getting another Jardine's but with Greycie, Toby and the Jardine's eventually, we'll be at our limit of three.

Lying in wait to punish the poor soul that will be next through the door I suppose

Yeah...cross that PDD bridge when you come to it. Good husbandry I believe will ward it off. Their tests suck. My pet rock would test positive for PDD I'm sure of it. My CAG Odie wore a plastic cone till she was completely feathered. Off came the cone, off came the feathers. That was our n=1 experience with that.

The loofa is interesting. I looked and saw several ebay ads, some from China. Do you buy from a specific vendor that you know is safe?

This thread did get a little off track...but to be fair, you started it haahaaa. Somewhere there's a thread on here I started about being a bird person. It started with me when I was wee little. I grew up on a cattle ranch and we killed everything. I grew up shooting prairie dogs because of their destructive nuisance problems. I shot stray cats. I shot stray dogs. I've even shot at stray neighbors kids from across the river - no joking. They were shooting our horses with pellet guns and I got out my dads .308 and started hitting the bridge they were hiding under with lead rounds. I shot a bird once and watched it fall lifelessly to the ground and have never been the same since. There is something so innocent and beautiful about them that separates them from the rest of the horde - at least for me. The downside is, I have a real hard time losing them. I accidentally killed my pet pigeon I had when I was 22 and it took me a long time to get over that. I can't wait to go home and see my birds every day. I can't wait to get them up in the mornings. It's not the same with my dogs, although I don't mind having them around and one of them is a really sweet boy. My cats are the biggest users around...even showing up my Greycie. Of course my wife says I've never met a Persian. Bahh.... I can even get overly attached to chickens - the ones that are picked on, helpless, defenseless...those are the ones that usually end up living in my backyard vs the barn. I had one that required a lot of round the clock care for a few weeks before it came around and we had her for a long while before she got taken by a hawk. That hurt. Flip side - the young roosters or overly dominant hens that end up getting overly abusive with the others and are just downright mean, I can kill those with my bare hands. They really can piss me off with how mean they can get.

My first thoughts were, I'd buy earplugs and completely 100% ignore the screaming. You might be right about the getting covered up is seen as a positive reinforcement to the Grey. At least he's getting attention. I only thought of the earplugs idea because we use them all the time here: - I have to sleep with them in or I sleep very restlessly - I ride a motorcycle and the wind noise inside the helmet get deafening after a while - I read, my wife watches TV at an ungodly high level. However, Greycie spots my earplugs and it's like I have a rabid buzzard on my head. She won't give in till she gets it out of my head.

Yay!! FINALLY got registered!!

A Grey that keeps himself in shape and studies Arabic - excellent! I heard a rooster @ 1:33. -
Wait a minute...you mean there are CAGs that are not brats? Not selfish and not bullies? I wonder if I can get a refund

Heart sank when I read the thread title. Started reading and thought...ahhh, I know and have seen this kind of abuse. It's the type of abuse that runs rampant our household.

I'll bet Halloween is fun around Kizzy's house!

What size aviator harness for my almost 6 month old?
SRSeedBurners replied to Michellec's topic in The Nursery
Go with the medium (assuming you have a CAG). At 6mos they don't have a lot of head growth to go. The part that has to fit is the head loop. The rest of the harness is super adjustable and has a lot of room for variation. Plus you may go through a harness or two as mine did just through chewing it to bits. If you want to, you can contact the manufacturer and ask them to reinforce the 'welds'. My Greycie got the original version apart at one of the welds so I had them do a reinforced version which is holding up better.
