  1. It didn't even occur to me that they may have teflon in them. I don't have one and don't have the space or the need for one, but my parents do. So I'll just need to be mindful when I take Alfie with me to see them.
  2. Alfie chews wood, card and paper. He's currently destroying/throwing around the centre of a roll of wrapping paper whilst also destroying/shredding a 24parrot.com catalogue on his favourite shelf. He makes mince meat out of cardboard too. I'm forever finding pieces of card and paper stuck to things! Looks like Dorian is having a blast with his boxes. Cheap entertainment at it's best!
  3. Oh what a cutie. I really must stop looking at baby grey photos as I get so parrot broody!! I'm really happy that you've decided to take on another grey. It's difficult to make any suggestions about the feelings of guilt though. I think this is just a process that you'll need to work through. As cliche as the saying is, time IS a great healer. My family and I went through similar when we lost our family dog. It took us a few years before we all decided we were ready to have another dog. I think once Django is fully settled in you'll get to a point where it feels like he's been there forever and you'll accept the differences between the two Django's and that there is no betrayal.
  4. Welcome to you and Jason! We have members from all over the world, so you're more than welcome to join in! You've already passed the initiation test anyway by posting some lovely photos of your Grey!
  5. I pay just over £20 to have Alfie's beak done... So that price is CRAZY!
  6. Zoe is adorable. It made me laugh when she started coughing. Alfie can cough, sneeze and blow his nose. He also goes camera shy. If he knows there is a camera about, he'll stop everything and just stare at it. The only time I ever got videos of him making noises was when I set up a wireless security cam and left it on noise activation a few times.
  7. That must be reassuring to hear! Though I wonder what Sukei will learn whilst there?!
  8. Happy new year to you and Sukei. It's amazing how much our grey's understand and how much they try and communicate with us. They take over our lives and steal our hearts- in the best kind of way.
  9. Wow, fantastic news. Safe travels, Sukei! Do keep us all posted with any progress. I've been following this thread with interest.
  10. That's adorable!
  11. I'm really looking forward to Christmas! Haven't seen some of my family in quite a while so it will be great to catch up with everyone.
  12. Head scratches- on his terms only. I can't initiate them, I have to wait for Alfie to come to me. Alfie will sit on my knee or my arm. He tries to sit on my shoulder too but I don't allow this as he has a tendency to start seeking out my ear. I can touch his feet when he's in his cage. He doesn't sit still for long enough when he's out of his cage for me to do that though.
  13. Oh geez. I was just catching up and your post hit me like a freight train. I was so hopeful for you and Alvin. I'm so so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you must be going through right now. My thoughts are with you.
  14. So glad to hear Alvin is doing better. Keep doing what you're doing. I hope he pulls through and is back to 100% in no time
  15. Beautiful girls! I think you'll have your hands full with them all!
  16. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice to you but I'm sure other members will be along soon. I wish Alvin a speedy recovery and I hope he's back to full health very soon.
  17. I cracked up laughing at it. I then showed it to my housemate who said "sounds better than you do". He's not wrong!!
  18. Wow congrats! Can't wait to see the photos of your new flock members once they're all settled in!
  19. Love this idea! Looks like greycie is having a blast!
  20. Welcome to you and Captain Jack! (What an awesome name for a bird!) I'm so happy that he's settling in well for you and that he's loving all the attention you're lavishing him with! I look forward to hearing more about you both and your new adventures together.
  21. Well it seems to have worked a treat. I now make sure I put a box up there with his toys and he flies straight over there as soon as he's out of the cage, flings all his toys off and then starts pulling the box apart. So glad this worked! Even better- I have an endless supply of the boxes to hand, as they are just old toner cartridge boxes. So myself and my housemate can just grab some from work whenever needed. Katana your story made me laugh. How funny that Java managed to train your husband better than you could!
  22. Alfie discovered the shelves in the living room a few weeks back. They've been there since we moved in but he recently discovered he could land on them and throw everything off. So they are now his favourite place. The other day I was working at the computer and Alfie was busying himself by flying to and from the shelves. I left some toys and paper up there for him and he was happily throwing them all over the place. And then it went quiet. Uh oh... I didn't realise at first but I suddenly noticed that I couldn't hear Alfie doing anything. So I looked round the corner and there he was... on the shelf... re-modelling it! They are cheap shelves and he was busy pulling the laminate up from the back edge. So, being that this is his favorite spot and I know full well he's going to do everything in his power to get up there and carry on re-modelling. I decided I needed to get creative. Fortunately, I had a couple of thick cardboard boxes to hand, so they are now up there covering the spot that he started picking at. Needless to say, he had a LOT of fun chewing up the box today... and my shelves haven't been touched! Now I just need to remember to keep a stock of boxes to hand.
  23. It's not even Alfie's birthday and I just bought him a cargo net to play on. Unfortunately, whilst it turned up today, I totally forgot to pick it up from the work post room before I left work. And I'm away on a training course next week... so he won't get it until the week after next! Happy belated birthday Greycie!

    Help Please

Alfie grabs his food bowls and makes a right racket with them. He KNOWS it gets attention. Sometimes he's just letting me know that he's eaten all the tasty bits and doesn't like what's left. Other times he just does it because he knows I'll look over/check it out. He also loves noisy toys like bells. You could try ignoring the behaviour and then pay attention again once she stops/does something else... but once they've found something noisy or something which pushes your buttons, it'll be a difficult behaviour to change.
  25. Ditto to Sterling! I think it's fantastic that this was able to happen!
