All done! Was having problems with it yesterday (hence my post about it this morning) but I'm all sorted now. Woohoo!

Seems to be working on PC and mobile now. Obviously just a temporary blip when I was having issues yesterday. I now have a shiny new avatar!

Oooh maybe something has already changed. I was able to get access to my profile on my mobile and update my cover photo. I will test properly later today. Perhaps I should have tried it again before posting! Apologies! I will test on PC and mobile this evening to see what I can access and change on my profile. Might have been a temporary blip last night.

Not urgent by any means but just thought I'd report that I was unable to edit my own profile to change my avatar yesterday. I stupidly didn't note the error received but it just seemed like I didn't have permission to do it. Was just poking around looking at new features when I saw it so thought I'd update Alfie's photo with a better one. I'm in no rush to change it though and I may be the only one with the issue so this is definitely not a major issue! I'll try it again later when I get home from work and will grab the error if I'm still having issues with it.

As I have mentioned on other threads, thank you so much for all the work you have undertaken for this change. I think it looks great and is a lot more responsive than the previous site, plus it's mobile friendly too! No complaints here. You might just get the odd question whilst I poke around and find new things! Change is never easy but is sometimes necessary. Sounds like this one was definitely necessary!

Oh it's definitely his shelf. I clear the shelves of all my things and put his boxes up there before he comes out. Otherwise my stuff gets thrown across the room! I have thought about hanging some toys around the shelves too - haven't gotten round to it yet because he's pretty content with just shredding boxes up there. He has a tree and toys the other side of the room on my desk so he flies over to that when he wants to beat the living snot out of something!

Alfie has claimed the two shelves in the living room as his, so when he's out of the cage all the ornaments come down and his cardboard boxes and toys go up. He then spends loads of time making it rain cardboard onto the sofa below. It's his favourite place to be!

Thanks Talon. I've just spotted your how to guide as well, very useful. I took a closer look at the activity page and there is a black dot that appears at the top of the new posts if you haven't read them. If you click on the dot, it takes you to the thread. As you mentioned in your how to guide, you can also click on the speech bubble when it shows the number of replies and that also takes you to the thread. Easy when you know how! I just missed it the first time round.

First off... wow, what a change! Loving the new layout! Thank you for all the hard work that went into getting things up and running! Secondly- this isn't a problem as such, more of a general 'how to' query. I'm still finding my way round the new site so I may be missing some obvious things. This also isn't a complaint or a grumble. Just looking for the best way to navigate around the new site. I can see there is an 'unread content' and 'activity' button at the top and these take me to an activity stream with all the latest posts/comments. However I can't seem to find a way to get to the threads these comments come from, so some of it is out of context. It will say "so and so posted something in somebody elses thread" but doesn't give the thread title and I can't seem to find a way to get to that thread from the activity stream. At the moment I'm ignoring these two buttons and looking at each 'room' to see which threads have been updated and reading through them there, as I like to see the whole conversation rather than just the latest comment/update. If someone else has found a better way to see the latest updated threads (rather than just the latest comments) please can you let me know how?

Sounds like a fantastic project! I have recently ripped out and re-created by back garden. Well I say I... it was actually my dad who did all the work. I just pointed at things, explained what I wanted and made sure he had a steady supply of tea and snacks! I have included an area at the back of the garden for an aviary. It's going to be 12ft long, 6ft wide and 6ft high. It will be multi-use: for my two bengal cats and also for Alfie to use (though not at the same time for obvious reasons!). I haven't bought it yet because I used a lot of my savings on the garden itself. With the weather getting colder and Christmas looming I'm holding off on buying the aviary until early next year. But I'm super excited for Alfie to finally have a safe place to play outside! I'll be following this thread with interest!

Alfie gave me a good chomp the other day because I dared to suggest it was bed time. He was having so much fun he didn't want to go to bed. I'd already let him stay up late but that wasn't good enough. So when I ask him to step onto my hand, he did... but he also grabbed and squeezed to let me know he wasn't happy about it. He doesn't draw blood- but he does like to let me know when I'm spoiling his fun.

Don't be surprised if this thread sparks a rather healthy debate about wing clipping. I don't like the approach suggested by the woman here. Having watched Alfie get clipped when he was young in a similar way, I decided it was far too stressful for him to ever consider having it done again. Only reason I had it done in the first place was because I was following what I now consider to be bad advice from the place where I got Alfie from. They suggested lightly clipping one wing then waiting a few weeks and lightly clipping the other. I followed this advice then realised Alfie was a strong enough flyer that once he sorted his balance issues out he could fly just as well as he could before the clip. So for me, it made no sense to continue. Alfie screamed the place down when they toweled him and I personally felt it was unnecessary stress for him. I worry that with Poppy being a fearful/timid bird it will be extra stressful for her. Apparently there are ways to train a bird to get used to being handled in a towel (according to Barbara Heindenreich) but obviously this would need lots of careful and patient training with Poppy. Similarly, getting her used to going into a carrier should be possible... with lots of time, patience and reassurance. Personally, I wouldn't risk setting Poppy's progress back by having a stranger walk into the home, towel her and clip her wings especially if she's a timid bird anyway. I'm not sure what to suggest to you here though. How old is Poppy now? Is she able to fly or still learning? I'd be cautious of having her wings clipped if she's still quite young and hasn't fully learned to fly yet. (Apologies, I forget how long you'd have her now! Time zips past so quickly!)

Just a thought for the open door - I've seen people mention that they use those door curtains (not sure how best to describe them) that's a row of hanging chains/ribbons/plastic strips? Just wondered if that was an option for your house? Children and dogs could still get out but it may stop the birds from trying to fly towards an open door (because it'll be covered). I wouldn't trust them enough to just leave the door open willy nilly but it may be enough of a distraction that the birds don't try and fly outside? Apologies for my vague description- I have no idea what they're called or where to get them from! Alfie is the same. I can offer him up all sorts of tasty morsels and more often than not he'll chuck them to one side or just ignore them. Cooked, raw, it doesn't matter. At most he'll take a couple of chunks out of it before throwing it. I persevere but he's a little bugger for trying not to eat the healthy stuff. With the exception of grapes. He can't turn down a grape. He gets given a few grapes every so often as a treat and he devours them.

So glad this had a happy ending and Olive is now back safe and sound.
