How about attaching a short perch on the outside of the cage but in view of a food bowl, call it the prime decision making location. When it is time to go inside make a big deal of placing a beloved food item into the bowl and walk away. When he goes in to get it use a key word then praise the heck out of him but leave the door open. After a few times of "key word/reward/praise" for going into the cage close the door for a few minutes then open (rinse and repeat but leave the door closed for longer and longer periods of time). He should eventually get to the point of you giving the key word and he going into the cage.

Was she allowed on to remain on these things when you were away?

I didn't have enough money on me. If I didn't really need the rechargeable lanterns I would have gotten stands instead. Hopefully they will still have some at the end of the week. I already have the pvc pipe cutting tool, bags of vet wrap and natural rope in my toy making basket.

Thank you all for your kind words. My co-workers think I am lying when I tell them just how much Jake and I talk and argue. They have no idea how it is possible to have a conversation with a bird let alone argue with one.

I was in Aldi today and they had heavy but attractive umbrella stands for $16.99.

Advice: ~20 year old rescue or purchase baby from breeder
Wingy replied to DogsBirdsFish's topic in The GREY Lounge
It will probably end. -
What is really odd is that we have no young children. There was a nephew that visited twice and that is all. The kids are all over 20. The child voice is his voice.

There are very few TAG videos on youtube. Is Jakes voice similar to Gilberts? Jake is not a closet talker. He will chatter and we hold conversations with each other quite a bit. He just clams up in front of the camera. He will play but not usually talk.
-
Every Saturday and Sunday morning Jake shares a chat with us. Yesterday morning I kept the curtains closed so he didn't notice the camera which is why the video is so dark. At the end of the video he is telling me something but I have no idea what. Its like the parrot version of charades

Jayd I had forgotten about that post. I was actually referring to something that I have first hand experience with. My now ex had DS's and my feather babies and took great joy in telling us that he let them go free in the back yard. Even more than a decade later DS and I still hope that the ex gave them away to kind people but we will never know for sure. At the time we asked around but were never able to find them. I specifically asked that they be returned or that I be told of their whereabouts in the divorce but was told they were property and that the now ex didn't have to tell me where they were. -

I do not mean to imply that you or the bird farm did anything wrong and I am sorry if you took it that way. Your sweetie just seems like she was very loved and well sometimes people do stupid things before, during and after a divorce. -
Ohh I like those stands. I was going nuts trying to figure out what to use to hold a giant shepherds hook for a boing and I never even thought of an umbrella stand.

After being on the receiving end of Zon hatred I say just let them keep doing what they are comfortable with. The phrase "always leave them wanting more" seems to not only have worked in your household but probably encouraged Cricket to want to be "good birdie" to get just a little bit more.

I finally was able to show Jake the video. He was fascinated with Isaac spinning around. I expect Jake will be trying that a time or 2.

It sounds as if she was well loved and taken care of by someone which does not match the story and condition that she was in when you saw her. Honestly you might want to contact your vet to make sure someone isn't searching for her. -

I was only repeating what I read here. If it wasn't for that extremely useful information I would have been convinced that my baby had some disease or would be naked by morning. -
You are so right. The inexpensive things are the most fun. condiment cups a pine 5 x 5 inch box a wiffle ball wooden chop sticks straws with the paper still on and Jakes favorite a set of stainless steel measuring spoons hung from a quick link.

During a molt flights usually fall out in pairs, one from each side, so you should see another within a short while if the loss is naturally occurring. My guy is a baby yet and is working on his first molt. He recently lost his 3rd pair of flight feathers. His come out within about a day of each other and take a few weeks for the new ones to grow in. With the first one he lost I was holding my breath when I only saw 1 but felt much better when he lost its mate on the other side. -
That is wonderful news. If you have a spare moment please contact your local news and report what a wonderful thing that company did. There has been so much bad news lately that we can all use a little good news and a happy ending.

One of these days I fully expect that Marco will take down the shower curtain, tie it in a bow and attach it to the mirror all while your washing the shampoo out of your hair.

So what is your little peanuts name? Did she come with one? -
We have the Pac-o-bird for short trips and outings and a huge extra extra large plastic dog crate that we keep stocked with supplies but out of the house for emergencies.

Is there any chance that with some mentoring and help that the TAG can stay in its current home? You don't say why the TAG needs a new home. Honestly I wouldn't add an older bird until Kizzy is older. She still has so much growing and learning to do and bringing in a bird with unknown habits might not be the best for Kizzy.

What type of air purfication system is best for bird-dander?
Wingy replied to glitteronfire's topic in Health Room
Jayd thank you for the reminder about Daves post on making an air filter out of a box fan. I had forgotten about that and it might buy me some time in locating filters for the unit I have. -
Just wait until he does the screaming flap but doesn't hold on tight enough and accidentally takes off. The look on their face when that happens is priceless.
