Hi and welcome. I hope we can all be of help to you in looking after your new grey. Please ask any questions you have in the relevent forum rooms and I am sure you will get a quick response.
You must ignore any screaming, praise like mad nice sounds and teach other noises to replace screaming. If you leave the room keep in contact by calling softly to him. A simple hi Zazu when up stairs or in another room can stop screaming escalating, only call when he is quiet though so as not to reward screaming.
He is a beautifull bird and it is clear he has been looked after well . I am sure someone is missing him a lot. Good luck in finding his owners, if not he has a good home with you.
Thanks for the info. I am not sure how acurate it is as I believed greys were imposible to sex by visual means, but it does say it is not acurate enough for breeding pairs,
I am glad you found the grey. Try asking local vets who sometimes keep records of band numbers of birds they see.Have a vet see if he is microchipped. Advertise in local media, paper, radio ect. Dont give the band number out though. Ask in pet shops.People usually by bird stuff from them and they may know who has lost him.I am sure you will look after him till his owner can be found.Welcome to the forum and keep us informed of your progress. I am sure you will love it hear. You could also put posters up in the local town or stores advertising the fact you have found the grey.
Do what ever you need to to get the antibiotic in him.I would not put it with his food as you need to be sure he is getting it. Towel him and put it in his mouth with the syringe. Is it an avian vet you went to? I am surprised Leo was not hospitalised untill he was on the mend. If you are at all worried phone up the vet again and tell them Leo is really not well and you need them to see him again, do not wait till next Monday. You are right by saying birds hide illness and by the time we notice it sometimes they are very ill
Ah thats so nice. I know how you feel. Charlie is my world and He knows just how to get round me when he has killed another remote or chewed the setee.I just cant be mad at him.
Thanks Jen. Kenya was a dream come true.Still cant believe it .I travelled from Samburu to Lake Navasha then to the Masai Mara then I had a few days at the end in Mombasa before going back to Nairobi and home. Hope you are feeling better.
Just got in from work and having a cup of tea.Things are slow in work so I was fed up ,we are always slack at this time of year.It picks up about March.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/12 23:37
I am glad Leo has seen the vet today.Hopefully the antibiotic will help.Did the vet give a syringe to give the antibiotic. If so try syringing it in to his mouth, thats how I medicate my birds if needed. Keep him warm and tempt him to eat, give him his favourite foods. Are you going back to the vet with Leo for a follow up.
Good luck Sheila
