  1. Hell be all grown up before you know it. Enjoy it while you can.
  2. TAG's in my opion from reading forums and talking to other people with CAG's and TAG's for the most part a more laid back. Not saying all are like that but in general they are. Some people believe they are not as smart as a CAG that idea I have not formed an opion about yet. My TAG is very quite and is still nice to strangers and does not bite. But I have been told she is either a) well brought up and b) just a very good bird. I think it is a little of both. I was very careful when she was young to interduce her to many new things and often. If a grey is what you have your heart set on think that maybe what you should go with. We well be here for you the whole way.
  3. Let me try one more time. It don't matter how carefull you are accidents can and do happen that is why they are called accidents. A friend of mine had her accident when she had to rush her mother to the hospital. She even had birds upstairs behind closed door that died. Last I'll say on this cause this subject is a real touchy for me and I thought I was one of those "careful" people. I regret it to this day. I sure hope none of you ever lose a bird like this since it can be prevented. But I guess if just one of you hears me and buys new stuff then I have done what I can.
  4. I am real pleased with how well she did today. I see a light at the end of this tunnel.
  5. You didn't QT the new bird? When is his well bird check up? Sounds like things are doing good. Never owned a too much to loud but such amazing birds. Good Luck
  6. They got there many many years ago back when we still imported birds and some wild quakers got loose. Our hand raised babies would never make it in the wild. Not sure if they are all over. And they can be a fire hazard cause they build those huge next in the power lines. But QPS with the help of some very dedicated people are trying to come up with alternative nest sites for these guys. They have weighed next in at 150 pounds. I don't really keep up with it all like I should.
  7. Can't help it had to post this. My baby flew today. Twice even. So we got our first tiny wing clip. Two feathers on each side. First time she few so fast and high she hit her little head on the ceiling. Second time she few into the living room tried hard to land but instead landed hard. lol She looked so surprised. I know she has no face muscles but really she did have a surprised look in her eyes. My baby is growing up way to fast. But on the bright side she is feeling very well. {Nature-00020087}
  8. Turn the sound up it well give you an idea how loud a pair of these can be. http://www.birdcinema.com/view_video.php?viewkey=9c1d0e3b9ccc3ab651bc
  9. I read recently that you don't even need to over heat this stuff to kill. Over time being exposed to it well kill your birds and make you sick. Even some cleaners have it in them and fabrics. I remember once someone found out their couch had it on it and in the winter it got warmed up and killed a bird. This stuff is nasty and I would not chance it at all. And yes I learned the hard way and killed my first quaker a blue crown conure and 11 budgies. You can't be 100 percent careful so just get rid of the stuff. You and your bird well be much healthier without it.<br><br>Post edited by: Tari, at: 2007/07/10 20:04

  12. My amazon is around 27 years old and has yet to bite me. He is also not loud. He is a red lored amazon. But he is not the norm either. I got him from a friend that had him as a breeder for 7 years she had this bird. He got attacked by a racoon and when she went to catch him to take him to the vet. He ran right up to her and steped up on her arm. I have had him for about 8 years now. He is the sweetest thing and a huge perch potato. So as you can see each bird is different but as a whole amazons are loud and can go into overload and bite. Mine is just not normal. I also would never go out and say "Hey I want an amazon" lol Cause Im really scared of them at a rule. lol But Joey is strange and many people that are scared of birds have even held him.
  13. Is the bathroom opened up too. He would be better off near a window or open door so he gets fresh air.
  14. Of the three I would say the amazon is a big no no. They are loud. They think life is a party and want to enjoy it. My TAG is quite but a grey may not work out for you. Budgies, parrotlets, cockatiel or maybe an Ecletus(sp) might work for you. But to be able to take it around with you I think a cockatiel would best fit your needs. A single quaker is not to bad on the noise if you get it young before it picks up that yelling habit. Mine only yell when the cat gets to close. Or maybe you can talk the bf into sleeping with a radio on and or maybe earplugs? Even the most quite birds have to be allowed times they can be happy and noisy. Its a bird thing.
  15. I agree open that place up. Can you take your bird back to who kept it while you were gone? Just tell it airs out good.
  16. Mine naps. I do too and when I skip my nap Ill see Que over in her cage with head tucked.

    Flight suit?

    Towel training may help. Also interduce it slow. Greys are always interested in what you are doing so play with it. Act like it is the best thing since sex. Don't let her have it at first wait till she is all over herself wanting that toy. Also keep in in eyes sight when she is in the cage. But don't let her eat it. lol Can you touch this grey? I am still working on the towel training cause I can't touch my grey and well have to hold her in a towel when I put it on her but got to wait till she is ok with the towel. Someone that has accutally put one on their bird should come along soon. Good Luck

  22. I must say mine has never had a set amount of people time. When she was younger I was working 40 to 70 hours a week. I brought her to work two or three days a week. I was a dog groomer and everyone loved having her at the shop. After I left that job she I was at home but she only spends a couple hours a day out and not everyday. Mostly in the week when my husband is not home. This past week she has had very little out time cause of the rain and my husband has been home all week. My husband is bad about not remember birds are out and he walks threw the house like a bull in a china shop and he slams doors. I am just not comfortable having them out when he is home. Que takes it all in stride. She is just as happy hanging out in her cage as she is on her play gym.

  24. Gratz on your new friend and yes they can learn to say new things. Mine just learned Bobby (my husbands name) and come here. Hope she puts them together. Unfortantly mine is a closet talker. lol Oh and
