  1. I could use the cheese for the reward with Josey too as she loves it so much, will have to try this method.:silly:
  2. Connie, check out this link to a thread that Tracy started when she brought Millie home, it has some pics of her, enjoy: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/other-birds/78414-my-dream-family-member.html
  3. He really needs the frequent baths to soften the pin feathers and it will make his skin feel better plus it will help with the dust. Josey does not show much dust, funny how some are so dusty and others aren't:huh: :side:
  4. FairY, if you had a bird room that they couldn't get out of and was birdproofed, that is remove anything they could possibly hurt themselves with then yes and I believe Tracy does have such a setup with her 4 greys. Sibylle, that sounds fine, a little time out in the mornings and then out when you get home, he can amuse himself nearby you on a playstand or something similar with some one on one time mixed in. Now Sibylle, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you.
  5. I would have to say it depends on what he is having, some things Josey will gobble up and others she picks at just like children. She will usually gobble up any kind of rice or pasta and she loves sweet potatoes.
  6. Hello Ken and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Pascal. Wow, a 17 year old grey, have you had him all that time or is he a rehomed or rescue grey? If you have had him all this time I bet you have some stories to tell, maybe you will tell us some of them soon. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Pascal you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

Toni, why don't you get some other pieces of wood and put them in their cage for them to tear up, hang some up and maybe they will leave their perches alone but you can't blame them, they just want to tear up wood.
  8. Yes they are pretty birds Pat, thanks for sharing yours with us and I know you can't wait until he gets that ring around his neck:P
  9. Well Terri that is one way to lose some weight but I am more inclined to be more like Dan, we make better choices since we have the birds to think of and are including more veggies and fruits in our diet. Of course it helps that I have a lot of stuff out of the garden and a lot of fruits are in season right now. Yeah Kitty just what is Precious up to, inquiring minds want to know:huh:
  10. I admire you Raz for what you do with Carly but it is something I cannot do as it takes a special person to work with your bird the way you do. The battle to clip or not clip will be fought forever but it is an individual decision that is based on each one of our own situations and maybe there is no right or wrong decision.
  11. I'm glad you are part of this forum Roger and if we can't have a little fun then what is the point:dry:  :silly:
  12. I feel so bad for you Susan, you think he has stopped and then he starts up again, I know it is so discouraging but don't give up on him, he needs you now.
  13. Gosh Pat after that testamonial to green cheeked conures I may just have to have one:whistle:
  14. I know Dan mentioned conures but some of them are screamers and that includes the suns of which I have one and she can be noisy sometimes but she does not get along with Josey but their cages are in the same room several feet apart.
  15. Well it depends on whether you are talking about time out of the cage or actual time spent one on one with the grey. Josey spends the weekdays in her cage while I am at work, when I get home I let her out and she is out for the remainder of the evening until she goes to bed. I spend some time holding her and talking to her but the bulk of the time she is on a playstand to be near me. Now as far as the bird and dog getting along, you know you cannot leave the grey out of the cage with a dog in the room even when you are home unless you are right there with them. These are a few of my thoughts and some of the others will chime in with some more.
  16. Hello Sam and welcome to the family, so glad you decided to join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Ollie. Isn't it funny how things work out sometimes, you have wanted a grey for a long time and then this chance to get one and hand feed it comes along, this was meant to be, fate if you want to call it that. Ollie sounds like a well adjusted grey who is blossoming with your love and attention and yes if he is fully flighted he is going to follow you everywhere to be with you. You are his flock member now but unfortunately the poops come along with it. We do have a few threads that deal with potty training greys and if you are diligent with it you can train them very easily. Just do a search for potty training and see what comes up but I would imagine they are in the training room. Take some time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will do our best to get some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Ollie you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

  18. What a sweetiepie, thanks for sharing a pic of Hershey with us.
  19. Congo does look a little perturbed but she will get over it, maybe you can try doing it in the shower, I do Josey that way but thanks for sharing the pic of HER, I just love the fact that she is a she and I was right.
  20. Patience Amber, remember patience is a virtue and the wait will be worth it, but it can seem like forever if you are waiting on something like this.
  21. Hello Ferduno and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Frosty. This is what we like to hear that a grey picks you and not vice versa, its a good sign and now you have made a lifetime committment to this grey and you won't regret it. Most greys are very quiet for parrots, it might have been a different answer if it was a conure for instance as they can scream loud. My Josey is very quiet most of the time and when she is vocal she never gets very loud. The food the pet shop gave you is fine but you need to suppliment it with fresh veggies and fruits, legumes, a little meat and nuts. There are some excellent threads in the bird food room on what to offer your grey, have a read thru them for lots of ideas. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questtions you may have and we will do our best to find you some answers and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Frosty you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  22. Caroline I am sure your two greys will be fine as long as your hubby waters and feeds them for the week you are gone and I bet they will be so glad to see you when you get back all will be forgiven. Josey does not hold a grudge when I have left her for a few days or even a week and I bet yours won't either. Have a good time Caroline and don't feel guilty. B)
  23. He should be starting to nibble on the other foods, maybe try soaking the pellets in some apple juice to entice him to eat. LovemyGreys will have some advice for you when she logs in.
  24. I think you will like the conure, I have a sun conure and she can be cuddly and wants to sit on my shoulder and get into everything she can. Be sure to share a pic or two with us.
  25. Thats great that the both of you want one for in some homes only one wants it as in my situation, all the better for the bird. I wish you good luck on getting your grey, you won't be disappointed and I look forward to seeing a pic when you can manage it.
