Luvparrots
Solomon (Sully) the Eclectus has been part of my household for six weeks today. He is my Gentle Giant and is the quietest and most gentle guy. He has stopped shrieking (and so has Ana Grey stopped mimicking that shriek thank God). Sully only says "Hi," "Huh," and laughs. He tolerates Ana Grey and she of course tries to beak him all the time. He rears up or loudly screams but does not hurt her. He loves to trip over to her cage and sit in it when Ana Grey is out. She lets him. I have to go get him out or he would stay most likely. Sully prefers his cage or sitting on the top of my computer screen or on the window perch at the front room window. Sometimes he likes to go walking around the house and when he is through exploring he goes back to his cage. He has a ladder to climb up and down on at his leisure. He loves to sit on my shoulder which I allow some times. Most importantly as you can see from his pictures, he is growing his feathers back. He does not pluck at all. I couldn't be happier. His appetite is great and he loves pecans and apples and pieces of shrimp and beef. Although for the last 8 years he has not flown, I am hopeful that when his feathers grow back he will be able to fly. Luckily both Sully and Ana Grey are very good about keeping me a "no poop zone" for which I am forever grateful. Thanks for asking about Sully, Cindy! Sounds like he became a huge part of your family. Lilly likes him and does he like Lilly?? Does he let you scratch him? I had to ask I look for these updates on him everyday
Luvparrots
Cindy, Lily does not go near my fids. She will come get me if they start walking around on the floors. Lily is a quiet and cuddly pug and is very mellow. From the start she has known that the birds are "no touchy" She tolerates them if they get close and moves away. I have tried to give Sully head scratches but he raises his head and watches my hands so I have not had the pleasure yet. He has let me pet his wings a little but when he turns his head toward my hand I know the moment is over. He steps up for me when he wants and does not try to bite me. He is still leery so I respect his space. I truly love this big guy and know that with time, he will grow to trust me.
Eckobird
Aww what a good update Janet! I am so happy Sully is doing great! I know you must be so proud of Sully for not plucking but you should also be proud of yourself for being such a caring parront. You are doing a great thing here and you inspire me to do the same some day. I love the pictures of your babies, they are beautiful.
Luvparrots
Thanks Caitlin, Sully is very easy to love. He is a jewel of a fid. If you do decide to re-home a needy bird, the rewards are so wonderful. If I do accomplish turning Sully around, I have my eye on a sun conure who is also a plucker. We'll see. judygram
Sully is looking great Janet, I think in some time he will be fully feathered and beautiful, you are doing a great job with him and I can't wait to see him in a few months time. Oh no, a sun conure that plucks, that really surprises me but I guess it can happen with any bird but a sun is such a bright color, what a shame. Luvparrots
Thank you Judy, I am very hopeful that Sully will be fully feathered some day. And yes, sorry to say that there is a sweet sun conure that has totally plucked its chest feathers and it breaks my heart. This sweet conure belongs to the shop owner so I am hoping that once she sees Sully is doing great, she will let me purchase her sun conure as well. Fingers crossed.

Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2009/06/21 03:

Luvparrots
Thanks Pat and Sheila, Sully is sure worth the time. I feel I am the lucky one, I was in the right place at the right time to find this sweet Eclectus who just wants some peace and quiet to live in. When I come into the room and hear him say hi or laugh, it makes me smile.
