Guest briansmum
Brian is a grape fiend! they're his ultimate favourite and he'd eat them all day if he could, it's the only thing he eats where there is no waste. but how good actually are grapes for them and how many can they eat, say, in a day? Guest briansmum
he does get a stable diet, he's still yound so i have tried not to overwhelm him with LOADS of different things, i tend to stick to good things i know he will eat, spring greens, green pepper, peas in their pods, sweetcorn and carrot. he usually gets these everyday, i then add in new foods a few times a week. he just adores grapes, really big juicy ones, you can tell by his eyes he is in heaven when he's munching on one. Guest briansmum
that is where the advice "dont spend anymore time with them than you intendt to spend for the rest of their lives" comes in handy. when i was hand feeding him i obviously had to get him straight out on a morning, but i carried this on, so consequently when he was weaned he was swinging on his cage bars and flinging himself about until i let him out, to the point that he wouldn't eat his breakfast in his cage. i learned that i couldnt have him out ALL the time, and now he is learning he doesnt come out immediately on a morning and he goes in his cage for lunch and dinner. partly so he doesn't attack out plates and partly so that when there is no one in he doesn't see his cage as the bad place he goes when he gets left alone. i know how much you want to just cuddle all the time, they're so adorable but now is a good time to start getting into a realistic routine whereby your baby understands that he is going to be on his own sometimes, but that it is ok. Guest Lidia
Easy on the grapes, though, very high in sugar with almost no nutritional value. I agree, they love them, Joshua does too, but they can fill up on them to the exclusion of food they should be eating. Grapes as a treat, but not grapes as a food staple. My tuppence worth. Guest briansmum
aww sorry islandgirltexas, i didnt mean to tell you something you already know. thanks lidia. i don't gie him loads, and they're not part of his main diet he usually has 2 or 3 a day as a treat when he is out playing, is that ok?, they don't go in his food dish, as soon as i saw he loves them so much i stopped giving them as a part of his dinners so he wouldn't begin to expect them. CeasarsDad
Ceasar gets a few grapes whenever we have them in the house.. Which is usually about once a week.. With 4 kids you can never have enough... He also loves cherries.. I would rather give him those...

Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/07/03 00:
Guest Lidia
Yes, cherries are much better AND they make far more mess! Pomegranates and persimmons also go down well. Mmmmmm, cherries...
Guest briansmum
i will try some cherries then.. but they are SOOO expensive here, do you need to take the stone out first? how do you go about feeding a pomegranite? just cut it into chunks and hand it over? can they eat the skin?

Post edited by: xxbeccyxx, at: 2007/07/03 00:

judygram
Josey does not care much for grapes, which I could care less about since not much nutritional value in them. Sorry Deborah that you started out with too much attention, now you have to keep it up or suffer the consequences.

Guest Lidia
Pomegranates: cut them into chunks. Give her as much as you can bear scraping off the walls, her beak, the floor, they don't eat the skin, but may rip it appart to get at more juicy bits. AND it's a superfood, very high in vitimins and minerals. Very good (for them and us). Cherries: just wash them, don't need to remove the pit, I think. Joshua eats the fruit and drops the pit where it can make most mess.

judygram
Now that would be fun to do, take your grey grocery shopping, let them pick out what they like.

birdmom
No more than one a day according to what I've read by Sally Blanchard.
chapala
Yes, I would agree that no more than one grape a day is plenty. Actually, I personally would limit it to a few times a week. Think more nutritious fruits for daily consumption. Re pomegranates, I stopped giving chunks because of the incredible mess! I scrape out the pom seeds into the bowl, in the kitchen. Much neater! They can still make a bit of a mess, but not nearly as bad Reta
