judygram
Does the light have to be within a certain distance for it to be effective?
CeasarsDad
Well, it's designed to go directly on top of the cage.. I guess if you wanted to hang it on the ceiling it would work too but I would get the higher wattage that they offer if you were gonna do that.. judygram
Thanks, as always you come thru for me, except for that one lapse.
Talon
Cd is correct about the full spectrum light. We have one for Talon's play cage, and she prefers to go there only when the light is on. She really seems to enjoy preening herself under it.
hveusnthbrige
Yes the thought of shielding the wire from chewing came to mind. Or run the wire through one of the hollow tubes in the corner of the cage.
judygram
Yes you have to do something to keep that beak off of the wire, don't want well done grey. I will have to decide whether I want the one that goes down on top of the cage or hanging above it. Josey's cage is not flat on top so one hanging might be better.:cheer:
Talon
Congratulations Judy who has made 700 posts in under 2 months!! {Communicate-000200D5} I had one that was attached to the wall that hung close to the cage. It was well protected with plastic (I thought) over the wires. Talon would climb onto the light and chewed right thru the plastic and even cut some wires with her beak. I'm very surprised nothing happened to her. Needless to say, I threw the light away and bought a different one.
judygram
I'll probably have to protect it like CD did with his, pvc, I don't think they can destroy that.
Talon
I agree. But definitely buy one. Josey will love it!!:woohoo:

linus
I have full spectrum lights on my three. At the suggestion of my vet I tried them. Gemini was beginning to pluck. Once I started using the lights he stopped. My vet recommended around eight hours a day. They are on a timer from 8am to 4 pm. I got my lights from Home Depot. splint101
I would like to know, these lights that they use for reptiles is this the same lights that you could use for your grey?
hveusnthbrige
I dont know, but I think reptile lights are for mostly heat reasons...
