mas
Hi guys, Its a copule of weeks now since our CAG Zahzu passed away - still miss her, however it was her time to go and now she's at peace. Anyway - we have an adorable little budgie! He's just a baby and is displaying some strange behaviour - I'm not sure if its just playing or something else: He spreads his legs, holds onto a perch with one foot, and the cage bars with the other, and then puts his head between his legs and tries to do a summersault!! However ofcourse he can't keep holding on with his legs, so he usually falls or goes topsy-turvy around the perch - he also does this in the corners of his cage. Some help understanding this behaviour would be wonderful! Thanks, Sameera
LindaMary
Hi Sameera! I'm so glad you felt you could return to us so soon, and so glad to hear you have a new bird in your life. I love budgies! I actually think your new little friend is just playing. I had a budgie for 11 years who used to do this all the time. He finally figured out how to do a real somersault around his perch when we were travelling in my car (something about the motion of teh car seemed to help...). But did a lot of littel things like this. In fact, Maxi my grey also does it, I have noticed. I thinkit's just one of those loopy things some birds make up for fun. Keep us posted, eh? What's your budgie's name?
lovethatgrey
{Feel-good-00020114}He's just being playful!! I had a budgie for 16 years. They are great! The only thing I would do is make sure the perch isn't too high for him. He can hurt himself if he falls! By the way.. what is your new budgie's name? mas
Thanks guys, Am going to put a towel down on the bottom of his cage to soften the falls! He doesn't have a name yet!!! Have got a few names I like, and will have to run them by all other stakeholders - the hubby and all of our nieces and nephews! ;-) Just want to say I'm so chuffed to be back! ) -Sameera
myafricanqueen
I think he/she is just being silly and playin around... My lil budgie Cheekz doesnt do that but, my lil Lovie Mo does that all the way around his perch like a gymnast! He is a little performer. It shows that he is happy too wich I love. Here is Mo my lovebird, Timid Timmy my cockatiel, and Cheekz my budgie. They seem to really get along and like to hang out..

myafricanqueen
THANKS JUDY! Yes, Timmy is shy with everyone but me. He wont go to anyone, but at the same time he is not mean just scared of what he doesnt know. He NEVER tries to bite he flies away if scared. I dont clip their wings so he likes to show them off too... he has quite the personality! look here...
